I'm bet the forecasts for heavy rain and severe weather in the Bristol area the past days and into Sunday delayed getting the track watered down.
  4. She is definitely doing all she can. Hope it works out.

  6. I remember one night Rapp and Labonte started on the front row of a big feature event. On the start something broke in the rear of Rapp's car, the Mickey Mouse Malibu I think. An old beat up car!. So while they worked on Rapp's car in the infield Labonte came to the line for the restart lineup.Dub Rollins was inside second row stopped in turn four with the entire field, about 30 that night, stopped behind him. They stayed there some 20 minutes or so until Rapp pulled out of the infield with his repaired car. I do remember the Labonte team was not all that popular at CC or at SAS. Don't know why . I thought it was he always won( one year he won every feature but one ) and the old jealousy of a deep pocketed team. Funny that he got asked to leave CC and maybe SAS . That was about the time Stratograph (?) picked him up and the rest is history.
  7. Well the inevitable is happening. Always sad to see speedways go out like this. Not many places provide the memories and folklore like an historic speedway. Tens of thousands of people carry memories and stories for the rest of theirs lives from places like this. I am one starting at 6 years old going to C C Speedway. When I first saw this post I almost hopped into my car and drove the seven miles or so to take a look. But then I remembered how I felt after taking a look at San Antonio Speedway on the way back home from a meeting. Drove up to the pit entrance off hwy 16 and took a look. It was the first time I had been there after the last race I went to. Upon seeing the track my heart sank over the condition it was in. Mixed in with those emotions memories of races past flooded my brain. Quite an emotional moment I must admit. Now that CC Speedway is disappearing I've decided not to go there now. I'd rather keep the memories of what she was and not have the memory of what is going on now get in the way of those. Seeing pics and videos of what it is now doesn't bother me much. But standing there on the grounds of SAS was tough. I don't think I could handle doing that on Flato Road.
  8. Got to give Ms. Knowles and her staff a tip of the hat and a standing O for all she has done and continues to do keeping asphalt racing alive in this area. The most telling comment in this piece is having to travel 12 hours to the next asphalt track. Hopefully HMP will continue to grow.
  9. Hi Tech I heard some of the mid packers on back in Factory Stock are going to E-Mod. Gotta feeling that may become a trend until they jack with the E-Mod rules and make it more expensive.
  10. I would sneak out of work in Corpus at 5:30 instead of 6:00 so I could get to SAS in time. Did that for years. Saw a ton of great races and great drivers at that track. When I saw this post I didn't want to look but I'm glad I did as the memories of SAS came through my mind at warp speed.Sure glad I got to experience San Antonio Speedway !
  11. Maybe the switches for ignition, fuel pump etc should be placed in the same location in all classes of cars so the safety crews know where they are and can turn off if possible. Thank God everyone involved is ok.

  13. Well , there should be two drivers and their teams that will never get to race there again at the very least.
  14. Well , the best driver doesn't fit either category. But in terms of wins and top fives I would think Dalton Faulkner would be hard to beat.
  15. I was there that night. I think the said moon was aimed at Tommy Grimes (?) walking along pit lane.
  16. Now THAT is the definition of a crowd pleaser!
  17. His Daddy was pretty good too.
  18. Yes. And the Clash is back as well. Great schedule!
  19. Yes , tons of memories at CCS. The first race I attended was there in 1956. I remember the top class the cars had no fenders front and rear.I remember the flathead Fords were the hot engine. It was not unusual to start 30 cars in a feature in some classes over the years. And how can you forget how rowdy the Australian Pursuits were! I think I'll run by there and see if they will let me get a chunk of race track asphalt. Dale Jr. needs to send a crew down for Lost Speedways before it is too late. You know Lucky Number Programs would be a cool thing to bring back to the tracks of today.
  20. This mans contribution to racing in Texas during his involvement is second to none. Rest in peace and thank you for all the memories his Series provided.
  21. I wonder who is putting this show. Same group that put this last one on?
  22. There are many great promoters across the state and we are very fortunate for that . But Mr. Pittman stood out for this award for 2020. When Owen took over C.C. Speedway that track was ready for last rites. Car counts shot up and the racing was great. When he moved over to South Texas Speedway most of the C.C. cars and staff went with him. STS was in good shape but Owen took it to the next level. Texana was a good little small town track that was trending up when Owen got there. In two short seasons phenomenal growth. This shows long term success at three different tracks. Wherever he goes you know the program improves big time. The kart program and the E-Mods he introduced are a big success at STS and growing at TRP. Congratulations on a well deserved award and with Mr. Beard coming in and Mr. Pittman staying things look really good at TRP for 2021!
