  1. You know, Hi-Tech , we may be getting on in years but we were young in the best of times. Times when kids were playing outside til dark without fear, homes and cars were usually unlocked , oh and the music! No computers , smart phones and three channels to choose from on tv! I think our young lives were fuller than youth of today. We were lucky to be born in the early 50's , be teenagers in the 60's and young adults in the 70's and 80's. Thanks williamg77 for pushing the nostalgia buttons. Now to youtube (the best thing on the internet} for music of the times.
  2. Well Decker sat on the pole at Daytona , ran up front a lot , missed all but one wreck and finished 4rth in I think her first race. Good start at least.
  3. I was there , saw it all. I think that was the biggest crowd in SAS history to boot! The fire extinguisher and its aftermath was a special moment as well. As was the topless girl in the drag strip pit area.
  4. I know Greg Davidson sailed off turn 3 and bounced off a car or two. I have a picture somewhere of Eddie Bierswalle (know spelling cant be right) Late Model resting upside down on top of a MG.Was there when Joe Aramendia took flight between 1 and 2. Called in life flight helicopter which was the coolest thing. Aramendia was ok copter left without him. Man I miss that place!
  5. Damn , HiTech , that was a beautiful post. My love for STS is pretty well known but STS doesn't come close to matching the memories and that feeling you got walking in the gate and into the stands at CCS. Just thinking of all the names I saw race there , many at the same time!.Rollins, Labonte, Yoemans, Nichols , Rapp,Beddoe ,Flanagans , Barnec , Mikulencak to name just a few. My Dad used to stand against the fence between the ticket booth and the beer concession during intermissions to chat with people he knew. Every time I went past this spot I will look at that spot and I swear I can almost see him standing there. So hopefully the future will be good for CCS. The closest I've come to that"feeling" at a track was San Antonio Speedway.
  6. Did they get to race? If so problem evidently solved.
  7. If happened what I heard happened OMG! A piece of or some tape is all that is needed to solve that problem.Geez!
  8. I'm not so sure going NASCAR is the answer.I seem to remember SAS going NASCAR the car counts dropped and continued to drop.Bottom line is over the years asphalt drivers went dirt. And stayed. I don't want to give a bunch of reasons why but I feel one reason is it may be more fun to drive. You are actually able to race instead of just follow. As for asphalt super stocks traveling series maybe. It would not be so much over rules but the ability to travel.Travel between CTS and SAS not much of a problem. But for CCS and HMP a little more so.And if SAS goes next season thats a lot of miles in between. most Supers are not on a big budget.CCS and CTS have to build classes locally first. They cant be relying on each other for car counts.
  9. Well the first rules meeting in the off season ought to be a good one! I guess everyone needs too finish out this season and take what has been learned this year to plan for next year. And I think CCS learned a lot.Able is to be commended for trying everything and what he has learned will make it easier to plan for next season. From what I see Sports Mods are the top class in the future.Cody is ahead of the curve by forming TALMS and I see a chance for major success.Pro lates and Pro -mods doesn't look to me to have the numbers to succeed. The other challenge for asphalt tracks is figuring out how to make the tracks more racey for lack of a better word.Every clip or race I see is a little side by side racing in the first two or three laps of a start or restart then it is pretty much single file the rest of the time.Dirt seems to be multi groove whether it be on the wider STS or the narrow TRP.There are many things that could be said I guess but at this point maybe they should be saved for the off season . Thanks to all race track promoters for what you do.Your passion for racing is the reason I feel the issues being faced now will be worked out in the future. There are good people in place now so it can be done.
  10. OK , since I kinda started this I really didn't mean to turn this into a bash session.Sorry bout that.On the topic of turning cars away, that should NEVER happen. The easiest way to remedy a difference in the rules is add weight to the car or if this is his/her first time at the track let him run as is then tell him what needs to be done.Heck pay his pit pass that may be all that is needed to keep a racer happy if you have to DQ him/her. But NEVER turn one away.It is no secret I'm a STS guy. But CCS was in my life for 40 years before STS came along and the history of CCS cannot be denied. And I bet a lot of the STS racers feel the same.I think Corpus has a golden opportunity here. There are enough racers here have two tracks.Personally I'd love to see a combined points system between the two tracks. Both seem to be able to get sponsers for their events.I think it would be a win - win for both tracks and especially the fans.Having said that I know that is kinda a dream.I am just a fan, not a racer. It is no secret STS is the big dog in Corpus and I'm don't see any reason why they would want to help CCS.But a ton of racers in Corpus has so many great memories and stories to tell about CCS.It would be a shame to see CCS join the list of dead tracks.I know I am talking out of the heart and not real world. In other words CCS should try to work with STS and forget about the others.
  11. I meant they need to get their local car count up and not to depend on out of town cars. And the way I see it there is only one option.
  12. Before CCS can jump in with anyone they need to get their car count up.
  13. Very good point about trying "special" races without a touring series. The upside to CCS is they did bring in a considerable increase in fans in the stands. If the locals could get 12-15 cars a class it is true you don't need the expense and headache of putting on these events. Can't blame the guys for trying and I'm sure they are learning a lot as they go.They have nothing to lose really given the normally low car counts.
  14. Even though I don't frequent these tracks often I just hate to see all the hard work these promoters put in and not get the return. It will be interesting to see if CTS gets good counts next race since the only time they have was when the Randy Rogers Band was there and they had to giveaway stuff to the streets.I have noticed every track in South Texas is struggling with Street/Super Stocks , even Houston.
  15. Well maybe now is the time to ask this. What is up asphalt drivers? Is asphalt racing dead or dying in Texas? Tracks put up a good purse and experience and car counts are low.And before someone says travel expense the dirt guys travel from Goliad to Edna to STS and to these tracks from San Antonio and the Valley all year long. Is it that CCS is too tough? CCS ,CTS and SAS need to know why the cars are not coming so they know what they can do to make it better next season , just fold up the tent or convert to dirt. These guys at all three tracks work so hard with few exceptions not getting return.Thank you to the drivers that did show last night. You are the people that get it.There are only 4 asphalt short tracks left and only one is getting consistant counts.Asphalt racers don't have many choices and it looks like that may be down to 3 next season. If you are not planning to support the other two let them know soon so they can stop wasting their time and money.Thank you to all involved at CCS for working so hard.
  16. I sure hope the cars and trucks show up for CC Speedway.I'm looking forward to Saturday night!
  17. winger I don't think you could of picked a better group of 3 cars that would better represent the class at that time. The 1 and 11 cars had quite a bitter rivalry goin and the Hardcastle car was one of the bestcars that ever hit that track. I have a bunch of pics in a drawer somewhere and if I can learn how to post them I will soon. Was good seeing the Corvette bodied car again.
