  13. MACHO MAN MAGIC: Late Race Pass at Tri-State Speedway Leads Brady Bacon to First World of Outlaws Win Bacon becomes 150th different World of Outlaws winner by capturing elusive Haubstadt victory HAUBSTADT, IN (April 29, 2023) - “The Macho Man” had plenty of time to think about it. Dream about it. Strive for it. Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway, he finally did it. Brady Bacon won his first World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car race. Trent Gower photo The Haubstadt, IN oval grandstands were packed Saturday night, but hardly a seat was used when Bacon threw a slider for the lead with less than three laps to go. The same fans that rose to their feet and roared had seen him come so close to glory at the southern Indiana bullring in the past. There was 2015 when “The Macho Man” led 32 laps before a late pass made him settle for second. The next year brought Bacon another runner-up. In 2017, Bacon was leading the Dash before getting upside down. This year there would be no heartbreak. Bacon wheeled the Kelly and Lora Hinck owned TKH Motorsports #21 from sixth to the front – sealing the deal on his inaugural World of Outlaws win with a late race pass on Series star Sheldon Haudenschild. The fans met Bacon with a thunderous roar as he climbed atop his wing in Victory Lane. Bacon cemented a place in Sprint Car history with the win. The Broken Arrow, OK native became the 150th different driver to win with The Greatest Show on Dirt. It took Bacon 65 Feature starts to get the job done as he became the 20th different driver to win at Tri-State Speedway. “I feel like I’ve had several slip through my fingers here,” Bacon said. “I haven’t raced (with the World of Outlaws) a whole lot in the last few years. Thanks for Kelly and Lora Hinck giving us the opportunity to race more so we can get in contention to win these races. I knew with my guys and the equipment we put together that if we could just race a little bit then we could win some races and win a World of Outlaws race. It’s been on my bucket list for quite a while. It was kind of my last one to check off. Glad to get it done here, and it’s fitting I get it done here where I’ve always ran really well.” The early part of the race was controlled by pole sitter and winner of the previous three Tri-State Speedway World of Outlaws races – Carson Macedo. The current Series point leader maintained the top spot throughout a flurry of stoppages in the first half of the 40-lapper while battles raged on behind him all over the track. When the second half of the race began, the action for the lead intensified. Eighth-starting Sheldon Haudenschild had driven his way into second and closed on Macedo as the duo entered traffic. On Lap 22, Haudenschild rolled the bottom of Turns 1 and 2 perfectly to secure the top spot and wasted no time checking out. Like Bacon, Haudenschild was also starved for a Tri-State triumph. Entering Saturday, the Wooster, OH native had led laps in three different World of Outlaws Features at the quarter mile but never won. The pilot of the Stenhouse Jr./Marshall Racing #17 looked as if he’d claim that elusive victory once he grabbed the top spot. Haudenschild was smooth as he sliced through lapped traffic and extended his advantage. A late red flag set up a 12 lap dash to the finish, and Bacon knew he was primed to make a move while running third. “The track was kind of coming to me, and my car was coming to me,” Bacon explained. “Starting on the inside I knew I was going to be good to get a good restart.” Getting a good restart was exactly what he did as he moved by Macedo for second and set his sights on Haudenschild with five laps remaining. Haudenschild squeezed between two lapped cars with less than four laps to go which looked as if it may have been the winning move. But in the next set of corners, Bacon utilized a perfect line to drive between the same two cars and get a run on Haudenschild down the front straightaway. Heading into Turn 1 after crossing the line with three laps to go, Bacon tossed a perfect slider to grab the lead. “Once Sheldon hit traffic there, I could kind of smell it,” Bacon said with a smirk. “I think I found that extra over-100% to make it happen and get by him. I knew he was going to get held up, and I just kind of drove the crap out of it to get there and was able to hit it right with lapped traffic. We had a really maneuverable car, probably more than anybody else, and that helped me in traffic.” After making the pass, Bacon drove away and claimed the checkered flag by more than a second. He made it official. He’ll forever be a World of Outlaws winner. Behind Bacon, Haudenschild held on to the runner-up spot – his third podium of the year in the NOS Energy Drink #17. Despite another tough pill to swallow at Tri-State, Haudenschild was in good spirits afterwards and even equipped with a sense of humor about the outcome. “Them damn Non-Wing boys got this place figured out,” Haudenschild said with a smile. “Hats off to Brady. He did a great job. We had a really good car all night. I didn’t get with it in that Dash. I should’ve been more aggressive, but I don’t think it mattered. We had a really good car, and I was able to get up through there early in that Feature.” Completing the podium was Brad Sweet aboard the Kasey Kahne Racing #49. The four-time and defending champion now owns top-fives in five of his last six races in Haubstadt. The result gave the Grass Valley, CA native sole possession of 10th on the all-time World of Outlaws podium list – breaking a tie with former teammate, Daryn Pittman. “We made a good adjustment under that open red,” Sweet said. “You hate to see open reds, but tonight we capitalized and got our car a little bit better. We were hanging on for fourth and fifth there then drove back up to third.” Completing the top five was Carson Macedo and Tyler Courtney. Courtney took a wild route to his result. After early contact with another car, “Sunshine” made a trip to the Federated Car Care Work Zone and drove through much of the field to earn the strong finish. Carson Macedo remains the championship points leader while Sweet moved into second – only 12 markers behind. Joe B. Miller earned the KSE Racing Hard Charger with a drive from 18th to eighth. 14. Berry bounces back at Hamilton County Speedway Tom Berry Jr. of Des Moines, Iowa, found redemption on the second night of the 13th Annual USMTS Spring Classic as he scored a $5,000 victory after coming up one lap short on Thursday at the historic Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa. Tyler Rinken photo With the best of the best in dirt modified racing on the grounds, the Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt produced yet another thriller on a cold night at the oldest racetrack in the Hawkeye State. The second of three nights of racing saw four-time Summit USMTS National Champion Jason Hughes take the early from the outside of the from row with Berry, the polesitter, slipping back a few spots when the green flag waved. Berry eventually worked his way past some tough competition before wrestling the top spot away from Hughes with 12 laps in the books. The 28-year-old originally from Medford, Ore., led the rest of the way for his second win of the 2023 campaign. “I figured Todd (Staley) was going to cancel so we were kind of behind on tire work,” Berry said. “We had a winning car last night and it didn’t result in that, and just shows how good our team is and how consistent we are no matter what the track conditions.” One night earlier, Berry collided with Ebert and then took the lead with seven laps remaining. Ebert returned the favor with an aggressive slide-job on the final lap to steal the win. “My dad just taught me from a young age to speak with your steering wheel and beat him on the track. It didn’t turn out our way and there’s no reason to bad mouth someone in that incident—we were just racing hard. It is what it is and we moved past it. If you hold on to it you’re not worrying about tonight. “I wasn't even thinking I was going to run after qualifying and we just dug down. You really just had to know where to be on the track to maneuver and I feel like I was maneuvering better and all these guys, and just maybe a little younger and a little bit more in shape,” Berry said with a smile. The finish of Friday night’s feature looked like the next-to-last lap of Thursday’s as Ebert came across the line in second place behind Berry. Hughes held on to finish third while Will Krup bested another four-time champ, Rodney Sanders, for fourth after a great battle between those two. Darron Fuqua came from 13th to get sixth at the stripe, but Brandon Givens earned the FK Rod Ends Hard Charger Award after racing to a seventh-place paycheck after rolling off 19th on the 24-car grid. Although he passed more cars than Givens, 24th-starting Zack VanderBeek had to use a provisional starting spot making him ineligible for hard charger honors, but ‘The Z-Man’ made the most of it by finishing eighth. Dereck Ramirez and Alex Williamson rounded out the top t10. Racing continues Saturday at the Hamilton County Speedway with the fire-breathing Outlaw Modifieds of the Summit USMTS National Championship competing for $10,000 to top tomorrow night’s finale. USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods, USRA Hobby Stocks and USRA Tuners will also be in action. For more information, check out the event FAST FACTS or visit HamiltonCoSpeedway. For its Silver Anniversary season, the Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt currently features 45 nights of racing at 15 of America's premier dirt track racing venues in nine states. 15. BIG GAME HUNTING: David Gravel Surges to Victory in World of Outlaws Return to Tri-City Speedway Gravel becomes 12th to earn 80 World of Outlaws victories GRANITE CITY, IL (April 28, 2023) - After an early season stretch of dominance that saw him claim three of the first five World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car races, David Gravel’s results had slipped in recent weeks. Trent Gower photo The sub-par finishes were never a matter of performance. A slight mistake at U.S. 36 Raceway led to a DNF. Contact with a competitor in Pevely turned a potential win into a ninth. Through it all, the Big Game Motorsports #2 continued to be one of the fastest cars on track. On Friday night, Gravel and his team put a full night together to collect their Series-leading fourth triumph of the season after a mid-race pass for the lead as the World of Outlaws returned to Tri-City Speedway for the first time in 15 years. With the victory, Gravel upped his career total with The Greatest Show on Dirt to 80 – becoming only the 12th to reach that mark. The Illinois oval became the 42nd different track he’s visited Victory Lane at with the World of Outlaws. In the bigger picture, Gravel also moved up to second in points – only 12 behind leader Carson Macedo. Perhaps most importantly, celebrating in Victory Lane helped Gravel forget about the recent troubles and bring to mind what he and the Big Game team are capable of when everything operates smoothly as they pursue a title. “We’ve been up front all year,” Gravel said. “I screwed up at U.S. 36, and then we had stuff happen at Volusia and Pevely, but this car has been fast all year… We’ve been in the Dash so many of the nights. Even if we’re not in the Dash, we battle to the front… It’s been a fun year. We’ve had three nights to throw away already, but if we keep running like we are, it’ll take care of itself.” While Gravel emerged as the winner, it was Logan Schuchart who controlled the early portion of the race. The driver of the Shark Racing #1S won the night’s Toyota Racing Dash to earn the pole of the NOS Energy Drink Feature. When the green flag flew, it was Schuchart who paced the field with Sheldon Haudenschild in tow. The runner-up spot was gifted to Gravel on lap eight when Haudenschild tapped the Turn 1 wall on corner entry and couldn’t get his car pulled away. The contact sent the NOS Energy Drink #17 upside down. Despite sustaining heavy damage, the Stenhouse Jr./Marshall Racing crew, with the help of others, was able to make repairs and send Haudenschild back out. A quick red flag on the ensuing restart caused the next attempt to be single file and set up what wound up being the race’s longest green flag run. Schuchart charged ahead when the green flag came about, but Gravel stayed not too far behind. As Schuchart stuck with the low line around the entire three-eighths mile, Gravel began to search. Eventually, the Watertown, CT native found speed on the cushion in Turns 1 and 2 and quickly ran down Schuchart. A few laps prior to halfway, Gravel powered down the backstretch with a massive run and looked to Schuchart’s inside entering Turn 3 but didn’t have the room to make it stick. A few quick circuits later and Gravel refused to be denied. With the same type of run down the back straightaway, Gravel roared alongside the Shark Racing machine and held his ground. Schuchart slipped up in the set of corners, and Gravel hit the moisture on the exit perfectly to secure the top spot. “Yeah I just didn’t want to blow it and get inside him (Schuchart) and show him I was running the top and getting big runs on him,” Gravel explained. “Luckily, it all worked out. I was able to get by him down the backstretch He kind of really wasn’t running the bottom, kind of running low then slipping up where I was kind of getting that moisture line. That line was getting thinner and thinner as the race went on. It got tricky, so I had to get my wing back. “I was really ginger going into (Turn) one. I didn’t want to do what Sheldon did. It’s so easy to do that. There’s a shadow there. The curb is against the wall, so I was kind of conservative on entrance, but I tried to have a lot of corner speed through the center and exit and it worked out.” Once he grabbed the lead, Gravel began to stretch the advantage in traffic – slicing through lappers while those behind them struggled to get through. As the laps waned, fifth-starting Parker Price-Miller began to run down the top two while running the top all around the racetrack. With less than five laps remaining, “The Law Firm” threw a slider on Schuchart to take over the second spot. Even with PPM’s late speed, there was no time to catch Gravel as the 30 year old cruised to the checkered flag with more than a two second advantage for his fourth win in 14 races. The only thing that could’ve made the celebration sweeter is if he’d reached the 80 win mark prior to four time and defending champion – Brad Sweet, who earned his 80th last month. “Me and Brad Sweet kind of have the same stats. We were both at 79, and I wanted to beat him to 80, but he’s a lot older than me, so I’ve got more time,” Gravel said with a smile. Holding on for a popular second place effort was Kokomo, IN’s Parker Price-Miller. It was his first World of Outlaws podium of the year and the eighth of his career. The crowd greeted him with nearly a winner’s applause for his efforts when he emerged from the car. “Really happy to have a good run. We kind of struggled in the beginning,” Price-Miller said. “I didn’t want to see that last caution. We were kind of tight, but that’s how it fell. Maybe we needed one more yellow, but David looked really good and it’s hard to pass guys. Happy with a second, but it’s also like we were so close to getting another win. We’ll take it.” Rounding out the podium was the night’s pole sitter and leader of the first 15 laps, Logan Schuchart. It marked the Hanover, PA native’s second straight top three as he continues to build momentum. Schuchart’s average finish in the last four races is a strong 4.25 as he looks to continuing climbing toward the points lead. “You always like to win. That’s the goal, but it’s nice to get a podium,” Schuchart said. “The more the race went on the more I felt like we were struggling, just kind of hanging on and playing defense a little bit. 16. Ebert wins wild USMTS Spring Challenge opener in Webster City If it’s true that “rubbin’ is racin’” then the final seven laps of Thursday’s main event at the Hamilton County Speedway provided some of the best racin’ of the year for fans of the Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt. When the green flag waved to start the 30-lap feature race, Dan Ebert beat polesitter Zack VanderBeek back to the flagstand to lead the opening lap around the historic half-mile dirt oval while Jim Chisholm, Tom Berry Jr. and Rodney Sanders moved ahead to pursue Ebert. Tyler Rinken photo Riding the high side, Ebert remained in control through the next 20 laps before Berry began to pressure the leader. Eventually, Berry made a move for the lead at the bottom of turn 3 but he and Ebert made significant contact which sent Berry into first place while Sanders followed into second soon after. Berry looked strong the final seven laps but back-to-back cautions forcing back-to-back green-white-checkered finishes changed the story. Sanders struck first, racing wheel-to-wheel with Berry on the first restart before the yellow flag waved again for points leader Jake O’Neil’s idle race car at the bottom of turn 4. Ebert found life on the second two-lap dash to the checkers, following Berry around the treacherous top side the first time around before diving to the low side after taking the white flag and then sliding up to take away Berry’s line. Like earlier, the pair made hard contact but this time, according to Berry, the Grant Junghans USMTS Rookie of the Year points leader “got the short end of the stick,” and slid up and off the racetrack while Ebert sailed into the final turn and onto a $3,000 victory. “That was a pretty wild race,” Ebert said in victory lane. “We were pretty decent to start with and then I just kind of was missing my line going into (turn) one here and then racing with Tom and Rodney there, and then I don’t know if Tom hit the hole or deliberately came across in front but I felt like I had a good run and he ran across my nose so I made sure that he knew I was there on that one. Coming to get the checker the last lap I had to make sure that I closed the deal.” While Berry was relegated to a disappointing 18th-place result, the relative newcomer continued to impress with his ability to find the fastest way around racetracks he’s never seen before “I followed and followed him and I feel like that slider was clean as you can get for the type of track we had,” Berry revealed afterward. “I got into him down here (turn 4) but hopefully he ain't mad. As soon as I hit the hole I got on the gas we were together. I like racing everyone with respect and I think Zack’s (VanderBeek) mad at me too but he got tight going the first corner. I had nowhere to go so I mean if he’s going to be mad about that I don’t know, so maybe I got some mad people at me but they all know I race hard with respect.” Meanwhile, Ebert held off Sanders by less than a half-second while Chisholm. Alex Williamson and Dereck Ramirez completed the top five. Ramirez picked up the FK Rod Ends Hard Charger Award after zipping past 14 cars from his 19th starting spot. Sixth went to 12th-starting Jacob Bleess, 18th-starting Tim Ward secured seventh, 11th-starting Terry Phillips earned an eighth-place paycheck, 20th-starting Will Krup nabbed ninth and Jeremy Nelson, who started 17th, wound tenth at the finish line. With his second triumph of the 2023 campaign and fourth of his career, Ebert moved into a tie on the USMTS all-time wins list with good company, joining four-time winners Austin Arneson, Justin Boney, Scott Drake, Mike Hejna, Steve Holzkamper, Dean Mahlstedt, Hunter Marriott and Brad Pinkerton. Racing continues for two more nights at the Hamilton county Speedway with Summit USMTS Modifieds competing for $5,0000 to win on Friday and $10,000 to top Saturday night’s finale. USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods, USRA Hobby Stocks and USRA Tuners will also be in action both nights. For more information, check out the event FAST FACTS or visit HamiltonCoSpeedway.com. 21. Jason Martin Tops ASCS Showdown At Boothill Speedway Bryan Hulbert – GREENWOOD, La. (April 22, 2023) Rolling in with a score to settle Saturday night after suffering a massive crash in 2022, Jason Martin did just that at Boothill Speedway with the American Sprint Car Series, leading start to finish at the three-eighths-mile oval for his second win in as many races. Tim Aylwin photo The fifth time the tour has visited Boothill Speedway, the trend of different winners continues, with Jason adding his name to the list. “We had a great race car tonight. I love this kind of track where you have to search around, and it just keeps changing throughout the race. It was fun,” stated Jason. “I’m very proud of this team. We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season, and now we just have to do what we need to do to keep it going.” Martin’s sixth career victory with the American Sprint Car Series, the No. 36 had to fend off Seth Bergman at the start. Stalked by the No. 23 the first nine laps, Seth slipped to the show position on Lap 10 as Landon Britt worked into the runner-up spot. Working the hub of the high-banked oval, cautions offered the No. 10 a few shots at the lead, but each time it was Martin who held point. Varying his line as the track became more and more technical, the top three all raced to the white flag with the win hanging in the balance. Needing to make one last perfect lap, Jason was able to hit his marks to win by 0.588-seconds. Landon Britt held on for second over Seth Bergman, with Howard Moore winning the battle for fourth over Cody Gardner. Sixth went to Matt Covington, followed by Brandon Anderson. Louisiana’s Koty Adams crossed eighth, followed by Kyler Johnson. Involved in a caution on Lap 5, Michael Day rebounded to a top-ten finish. Saturday’s field broke into three AR Dyno Specialty Heat Races, with wins going to Matt Covington, Cody Gardner, and Michael Day. The KSE Hard Charger was Howard Moore. All drivers in attendance advanced to the A-Feature. Landon Britt was the overall quick qualifier and established a new track record at 12.644-seconds. The American Sprint Car Series races again at Moberly Motorsports Park in Moberly, Mo., on Saturday, May 13. The 2023 season will mark the 32nd year of competition for the American Sprint Car Series. Spearheaded by the American Sprint Car Series National Tour, the ASCS Nation includes Regional Tours that encompass both wing and non-wing competition. When making it to the track is not an option, the series can be found on http://www.floracing.com, and is included in the platform’s $150 a year subscription plan. 22. O’Neil gets Ed Gressel Memorial trophy An explosive night of money and memories were made Saturday during the finale of the inaugural Ed Gressel Memorial at the 81 Speedway featuring the Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt. Tyler Rinken photo Before the start of the main event, racers lined up in their traditional four-wide salute to the fans but this night was extra special as the front row of cars was filled by Brandon Givens, Scott Green, Tanner Mullens and Jake O’Neil—all of whom have sat in the driver’s seat of a Gressel Racing USMTS Modified. Dereck Ramirez bested Will Krup to take control of the feature race on the opening lap. Meanwhile, fourth-starting Jake Timm lost nearly 20 spots with an opening-lap miscue that saw him scoot through the infield, but found his way back into the top 10 by lap 10. Ramirez and Krup raced side-by-side on laps 5 and 6 before Ramirez reached the back of field by lap 11 and began to distance himself from Krup as he navigated lapped traffic flawlessly. Lap 24 saw Jason Hughes, running third, break just before the race’s midway point which resulted in the first caution of the contest. On the restart, Ramirez took the field back to green with Krup, 13th-starting Terry Phillips, Dan Ebert, Tom Berry Jr., Timm, O’Neil, Jacob Bleess, Gary Christian and Rodney Sanders filling the first 10 positions. Phillips got by Krup on the restart while Berry followed T.P. into third the next time around. The next time around, Phillips screamed around the top and wrestled the lead away from Ramirez. A second caution on lap 28 opened the door for O’Neil as he restarted fourth but became the new leader two laps later and proceeded to make his chasers get smaller and smaller in his rearview mirror (if USMTS allowed mirrors). While O’Neil raced away, Timm continued his rebound with a pass of Ramirez for fifth with a dozen laps remaining. On lap 39, Darron Fuqua tagged the wall and then stopped to force the third yellow flag. Meanwhile, Phillips broke something under his Bloodline Race Cars machine and retired from the race under caution. Back under green, O’Neil left the field in his wake. Timm passed Krup for second at the white flag and then narrowly lost the race for the runner-up paycheck to Berry at the checkered flag. “Most people don’t know but (Ed Gressel) gave me my first chance out racing the tour and I really owe it to him and Cinde for being here. Honestly, if it wasn’t for them I probably wouldn’t be out here right now,” O’Neil revealed in his victory lane speech. “I would have never got that start to get going and I really got to thank them for everything they did for me.” In picking up his first win of the year, O’Neil came alive midway through the race after tumbling as far back as 12th at one point. With 24 laps in the books he was 10th but seven laps later he was leading the main event. “We’ve been down in the dumps lately because the car’s been so terrible--either the car is or I am, one or the other—but we talked to Jimmy (Owens) right before the feature and he pretty much said ‘You’re screwed’ but try this. We threw some crazy stuff at it just to try to do something and I was so tight at the beginning and so terrible I just gassed on it I don't know what to tell you, I just I did everything I could,” O’Neil said. “I think the starts definitely helped me. I had way too much gear and I’d carry about 400 mph going into the corner and I couldn’t slow down so I just used that to my advantage. “I couldn’t believe it, honestly. I was I was back there… I don’t know I felt like 150th or 10th but I was just fighting and digging everywhere I could to gain ground on somebody and then Jake Timm going out over here, then he passed me. I was like ‘Man, this ain’t good but I just entered wide open and I found a line that actually stuck. I slowed down a bunch (in turn 1) and quit blowing the tires off and that seemed to help. That's kind of when I noticed I got Dereck there and I felt a little bit of grip and as long as I kept my car straight I was okay.” In the end, O’Neil was okay to the tune of $10,000 as the 31-year-old from Tucson, Ariz., notched his 29th career USMTS victory and third at the 81 Speedway while taking over the series points lead to boot. While O’Neil, Berry and Timm shared the podium, Krup was a solid fourth with 14th-starting Rodney Sanders completing the top five. Cayden Carter was sixth while Wolff took a provisional to start 25th but found his way to a seventh-place effort. Ebert, Jeremy Nelson and Christian rounded out the top 10. Following the Real Racing Wheels “B” Mains, the top eight drivers in heat race passing points competed in the six-lap Kansasland Dash 4 Cash. As the winner, Tanner Mullens accepted the $6,000 cash prize to give up the pole position to start 12th in the main event. He suffered mechanical problems and wound up 19th—one spot behind Ramirez who also did not finish the 50-lap distance. Saturday’s prize started off at $1,000 thanks to Kansasland Tire, Rock Island Recycling, Duvall Electric and McCowan Farms but a flurry of donations over the last 24 hours led to an epic ballooning of the prize money to $5,000 if Mullens could have won the race. Making it perhaps the richest six-lap dash in dirt racing history, special thanks to the following contributors: Becky Ramirez, Brian Franz, F.O.E. Enterprises, Cinde Gressel, RacinDirt, USMTS, J.R. Sandlian, Broadway Truck & Auto Salvage, Special T’s, Two M Motorsports, Action Engineering, Arrowhead Speedway, Darren Bennett, Brad Carger & Alysea Pressler, Mississippi Thunder Speedway, Mike & Elaine Sorensen, 1-800-JUNK-PRO, Chandler Dan’s Catering and the Chesterman family. The Ed Gressel Memorial featured a special one-of-a-kind victory lane banner. The 10x20 sign was autographed by USMTS drivers, and then after Saturday’s finale one lucky person took home the banner from the silent auction that went on all weekend. The winner was Tom Paulson—a long-time racer and supporter of fellow drivers—with a $10,000 donation that will benefit a charity of Cinde Gressel’s choice. During Saturday’s who, Jon Tesch stepped forward to award $500 to the 14th-place finisher. That money went to Brandon Givens, the last man to pilot a Gressel Racing race car. Adam Gressel added $1,000 for the feature race’s hard charger, making it an $1,100 cash bonus to the FK Rod Ends Hard Charger Award winner. That prize went to Carter, who started 16rh and finished 6th. Provisional starters were not eligible Chris Sutton with the RPM Speedway in Hays, Kan., awarded $100 to the 19th-place finisher in honor of the Gressel Racing No. 19R driven by Ryan Gustin, who garnered two Summit USMTS National Championships while driving for Gressel Racing. Oddly enough, that money went to Mullens, another former Gressel driver. Webster City waiting: In just four short days, the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa, will host an open practice night on Wednesday, April 26, followed by three straight nights of action Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 27-29, for the 13th Annual Spring Classic.
