  3. I had the responsibility for making rainout calls for San Antonio Speedway for several years and for a year or two for THR (before it was Central Texas Speedway). Here's how it often turned out. In situations where there was threatening weather before the event, It was a "good" call if: 1) I called it off and the track was actually experiencing bad weather at race time. 2) I didn't call it off and we somehow managed to get the show in before the bad weather hit. It was a "bad" call if: 1) I called it off but the track conditions were actually good enough to allow some on-track time. 2) I didn't call it off and folks sat in their haulers waiting for the monsoon to subside. It was more or less a crap shoot, but you'd hear from pissed off folks no matter the call.... Nick
  4. Forecasted weather halts Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals by Bryan Hulbert MESQUITE, Texas (March 15, 2023) The start of the 2023 season for the American Sprint Car Series will have to wait a little longer as officials with the Devil’s Bowl Speedway have made the call to cancel this weekend’s Spring Nationals due to forecasted heavy rains on Thursday, followed by low and near freezing temperatures on Friday and Saturday that won’t allow time for the already rain softened facility to be usable. The 2023 season will now begin with the $15,000 to win Capital City Clash at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., on Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1. The 2023 season will mark the 32nd year of competition for the American Sprint Car Series. Spearheaded by the American Sprint Car Series National Tour, the ASCS Nation includes Regional Tours that encompass both wing and non-wing competition.
  5. Awesome! But you know as well as me, most racing organizations make it a point to send results and their press releases to media. I get a bunch of stuff from race tracks and series that are of little interest to most folks who visit this site. I used to post the results from World of Outlaws, IMCA, etc. and every now and then I post them but usually no one reads them because if they are interested in that series, they already go to that series FB page or website to obtain the results they are interested in. I would certainly post results from any Texas short track or any Texas-based short track series if someone would just send them to me. be it dirt or asphalt.

  12. Timm tops Summit USMTS Spring Nationals Sunday The 13th Annual Summit USMTS Spring Nationals wrapped up at the Rocket Raceway Park on Sunday evening with a second straight night of nail-biting action for the fans in attendance and those watching the live stream on RacinDirt.com and RaceOnTexas.com. Jake Timm was the quickest driver out of the gate, earning the Swift Springs Fastest Lap Award after posting the quickest one-lap time during heat race group qualifying. From there, he earned the Sybesma Graphics Pole Award and set the pace for the start of the main event. Tyler Rinken photo Timm jumped out to lead the first five laps but gave way to Tyler Wolff on the sixth lap. Looking to rebound from a late-race mishap that likely extinguished a top-three performance the previous night, Wolff led the next 21 laps while Timm and 2021 USMTS National Champion kept him in their crosshairs. Following the race’s third and final caution on lap 11, Timm regained second from Ramirez while Will Krup and Dan Ebert moved into the top five after disposing of Chris Henigan. Wollf extended his lead to just under a full second over Timm by lap 15 but Timm narrowed the gap to nearly nothing by the halfway point of the 40-lapper, showing Wolff his nose on the inside of the first turn as the leaders engaged a swam of back-markers. With 13 laps to go, Timm raced underneath of Wolff and the duo made contact. Wolff bounced up the track while Ramirez drafted Timm into the second spot. “I don’t always start at the top but it was still pretty slimy on both ends. I knew at some point it was going to come in for a little bit and I was just going to waiting for it,” Timm said of his move from the pole to a higher lane right away. “When Tyler slid me there I kind of figured he was he was getting it going so I came over here and I tried it and, man, it was not ready. I about parked it almost I thought I was going to spin.” The top three ran nose-to-tail under lap 32 when Wolff got back by Ramirez and set his sights on Timm. Once in second place, however, Wolff was unable to track down Timm as the 26-year-old from Winona, Minnesota, sailed to a $5,000 victory and the fifth of his USMTS career. “I’m going to have to apologize, Timm added, but I just knew my window of opportunity was getting small with the with the lanes tightening up and I just got in one of them ruts and hooked it. We jumped tires but definitely not the way you want to win.” “There’s nothing to apologize for,” said Wolff, who held on to take home the runner-up paycheck. “We were racing hard having a good time and just got together there. We both stayed in it and he beat me back around, so we’ll work on our car. We’re pretty close.” Improving on a forgettable Saturday night effort, Ramirez remained in third while Krup and Ebert followed him to the checkered flag in fourth and fifth. The rest of the top 10 were Brandon Givens, Jason Hughes, Henigan, Jim Chisholm and Cade Dillard. In less than two weeks, USMTS competitors will once again invade the Humboldt Speedway for RacinDirt King of America XII presented by Shocker Hitch and the 8th Annual Battle at The Bullring. An open practice is slated for Wednesday, March 22, with three days of racing to follow on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 23-25. The Humboldt Speedway is a 1/4-mile semi-banked clay oval located off of US 169 to the Humboldt exit, then 0.1 mile west, then 0.5 mile south, then 0.9 mile east to 1663 Georgia Rd, Humboldt, KS 66748. Check out HumboldtSpeedway.com to learn more. The Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt currently features 46 nights of racing at 15 of America's premier dirt track racing venues in nine states for its Silver Anniversary season. 13. Berry blasts to first USMTS win at Rocket Raceway Park The Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt kicked off the 25th season of excellence in dirt track racing Saturday night with opening night of the 13th Annual Summit Spring Nationals at the Rocket Raceway Park. Despite a wet week in North Texas, an event record 87 entries packed the pit area with many of them having one eye on Saturday’s $10,000 winner’s share of the purse and the other on the $100,000 awaiting the 2023 USMTS National Champion in November. Five of the drivers in the first six rows to start the 40-lap main event were seeking their first USMTS victory, but when the checkered flag waved it was just four as Tom Berry Jr. scored his first win in the kickoff to his quest for the Grant Junghans USMTS Rookie of the Year title. After battling his way in the redraw among the top eight qualifiers, Berry garnered the Sybesma Graphics Pole Award and led the field to the drop of the green flag. Zack VanderBeek challenged on the opening lap but a quick caution reset the field. Berry took off on the restart and led the next 29 laps while surviving five yellow flags and navigating a racing surface wrought with “character,” but with 10 laps to go his first threat came in the form of Terry Phillips, who slipped underneath Berry to lead lap 30. Berry came right back and continued to remain faithful to the top side of the racetrack on both ends while Phillips searched high and low for any advantage he could find. Phillips snuck by at the flagstand again to be scored the leader on lap 38, but Berry would not be shaken. Berry regained the lead and sent a shower of sparks down the front-stretch wall as he nipped Phillips at the checked flag by about two-tenths of a second. Berry’s first USMTS triumph paid $10,000 to the 27-year-old originally from Medford, Oregon, and now residing in Des Moines, Iowa. “Me and Phillips are good buddies,” Berry said in victory lane. “We’ve probably burned 1,000 laps together with the crate stuff so I appreciate Terry for not giving it to me but he didn't dirty me up for the win.” A third generation racer, Berry comes from a deeply rooted family legacy which includes his grandfather, Bill Berry, who was a professional drag boat racer, holding the world record in 1967 and 1968, and his father, Tom Berry Sr.—a professional AMA flat track racer from 1970-1980. “I can't thank everyone enough for sticking it out. It's a little chilly out here with the wind and what not and I'm just grateful to be up here. My dad died about six years ago on Tuesday so he is definitely looking over me on this one.” Phillips, whose family legacy is also well-known and is even called out with his new Bloodline Race Cars business, settled for second but made quick work of the cobwebs that may be lurking beneath his new design. Another rookie contender, Gary Christian bested fellow Oklahoma racer Jason Hughes to finish third while Darron Fuqua passed 20 competitors to round out the top five at the stripe. Sixth, seventh and eighth were Jake O'Neil, Brandon Givens and Dan Ebert, who started 21st, 22nd and 20th, respectively. Tanner Mullens rebounded from an early-race scuffle to nab ninth and Will Krup took tenth. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The USMTS returns to the Rocket Raceway Park tomorrow for the second and final day of the 13th Annual Summit Spring Nationals. Sunday’s main event winner will pocket $5,000 and every feature race starter will take home no less than $500. USRA Stock Cars ($500 to win), USRA Limited Mods ($600 to win), USRA Factory Stocks ($500 to win) and Eco-Mods ($300 to win) will also be on the card for a second straight night. The pits will open at noon with grandstand gates swinging open at 2:30. The drivers meeting takes place at 3:15 with hot laps and USMTS qualifying slated for 3:30 and racing at 4. General admission tickets for spectators are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and members of the military, $10 for youth ages 12-16 and kids ages 11 and under get in for free. 15. Plan of attack revealed for Summit USMTS Spring Nationals The Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt embarks on its biggest, boldest schedule yet this weekend at the Rocket Raceway Park in Petty, Texas, for the 13th Annual Summit Spring Nationals. "With fans and racers alike—as well as officials from the USMTS and Rocket Raceway Park—keeping one eye on their weather apps, we just want to let everybody know our plan of attack for this weekend's monster show," said USMTS President Todd Staley. "In 25 years of doing this, I don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many times the weather forecast has been totally wrong. but they've been right sometimes too." With a dismal forecast for Thursday and into Friday, racetrack and series officials have made begrudgingly gone to Plan B. Thursday's event is canceled while Friday's event for all classes will now move to Sunday afternoon along with the previously announced payouts for Friday. We will race Saturday's big finale as planned. Summit USMTS Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA Limited Mods, USRA Factory Stocks and Eco-Mods are on tap both days. Officials have also pulled the plug on Wednesday's practice session. time permitting, there may be a morning/early afternoon practice on Saturday.
