There are a few midgets left out there and the one's I have are in the process of being restored. They were in sad shape as age and neglect left them for salvage. By all means keep checking back with us and stay close by for I just might need a few parts! We appreciate your offerings and input for us old timers who got our start in the beginning midgets during the 50's and early 60's. I can't wait to to complete them as time permits. Midget 85 Posted August 31, 2009 Report Share Posted August 31, 2009 Wow! No doubt this midget could be restored and the value unlimited for those seekers that appreciate this classic midget. As with most cases, I would say this midget in restored condition would be worth thousands! What a great lookin midget waiting to be brought back to dignity for the time era it stood for. Wish I had more info on this car and if it sold or possibly a contact number. We really appreciate you contributing to this forum and the photo is priceless! If you scroll down to page 11 it show the QMA Hall of Fame booth in Talladega, AL. The orange car in the back appears to have come from the 60's to me. Midget 85 Posted September 13, 2009 Report Share Posted September 13, 2009 Mike, The Orange Quarter Midget you are referring to above is a "Moss" Midget from the late 50's early 60's. Raced against many of them and drove one a time or two. There are several photos of the Moss Midget through out this thread. Thanks for the link as well as the information. If you owned or better yet drove one in those early days, you were a little star hoping to be a big star someday. These were truly fun days indeed! How I miss the thrill.. The Tiny Mite Midget was designed to look more like the old Sprint Cars and also had a sturdy Roll Bar! This midget was very simular to the Wahlborg Midget on the nose piece and may have actually been stretched from the original body mold. This training midget as it was known to most of us was actually around in the 50's not the 20's. Note the centrifical clutch with a belt, and protective nerf bars around the wheels and body. These cars were used in Amusement Parks, Go Cart tracks, and may have been used in what is referred to as "Board Racing" up North quite possibly. The protective nerf bars were in place to keep the midgets from climbing over one another, and to protect the cars from damage. The engines were stock and speeds were kept down by a governed carbureator. The wheels were basic wagon wheels. They were not intended for any competition, just amusement rides and or training. In my early days I actually saw one of these things in 1957 at the Gulf Freeway Quarter Midget Track. It was being used to train young wanna be's how to drive and or experience the driving thrill. That was here in the South but, not saying it wasn't used for Board Racing in other parts of the country. This is interesting to even see one of these little trainers still around. The car was actually spun off the new thrill of 1/4 Midget Racing which was sweeping the country back then. Thanks as always for the history and photos. The one below looks like it was built from a narrowed and sectioned hood from a Ford or Chevy from what I can tell and is a dead giveaway of how the little midgets got their start in the early days. Here is another King Size Wahlborg Midget that ran the 1/20th and 1/10th mile tracks in the 50's and 60's. In the back ground is a Big Brother of the midget world.
