  1. Northside speedway is still located at Greens Rd. and Lee Rd. It has been inactive for some years. This is an old Houston track that folded years ago. I drove that track back in the mid 50s. Nice track, shame it didn't survive.........................................
  2. Yep, Von Brune's old car. It was a good one too!!!!!
  3. David, I think your dad told me that he used some kind of Pontiac frame flipped upside down. He should step in here and clear this up!
  4. I think the purple 27 belonged to a salvage yard out near South Houston. Been awhile........................................
  5. RETrott: Yes it was quite a ways out of # 2 turn, a lapped car smacked the fence and I got up on the top of Jackie Burke # 99. I was officially given credit for 11 rolls, but I had to take their word for it as I only remember the first. Where is this car today? Great looking Edmunds!
  6. That sounds like the wreck that Bill White had. I don't remember his roll cage failing, 'course that's been awhile....................
  7. I believe Charlie had a shop in Spring Branch on Long Point Rd. Pretty busy at that shop!
  8. Charles Ray was the best I ever saw. Mow, there have been other great builders since then. Charlie was one of the early ones.
  9. And it was built by the best car builder and mechanic in houston!!
  10. Thanks Randy, Greatful for the pics. Great looking group!
  11. Larry, I don't remember the number or color. It was a Super Modified. I think we called them "Down South Cars". Fred bought the car and brought it to Houston. Fred said the car had run 10 races, winning 7 of them and finishing second in the rest. I'm not sure but he may have bought it in Mississippi. Anyway it was well built and very light. Incredibly fast. I imagine the car was parted out. Jim
  12. You are correct. Fred's new race car, trailer and new Suburban were taken from Fred's plumbing shop. That was my understanding. I think his shop was on Long Drive near Griggs. I know we were all PO'D when it happened. I imagine that sooner or later, those boys fell on hard times. My opinion!
  13. Thanks Byron, This is the info that we need to keep these old cars sorted out. People like you get our old minds working again. Please send more...................................
  14. The helmet? Strange you should mention that. That's exactly what it was. Still had the como ear pieces. Made great sound deadners.....................................
  15. Not only was that a racing uniform (banlon shirt and Coca-Cola pants), but also my Sunday go to meetin' suit.....................
  16. Maybe Larry can tell us. I think it was 1967, but not sure.
  17. Sounds great, Please post and let us know if they are for sale. Jim
  18. No, Alton brought his beat up quiarter panel with him...................... Besides all that, he is a really nice guy........................
  19. Thanks Randy, Great job! Wish I had it back....................That's life. And the blue 55 Chevy in the background Is the car of Alton Russo. Nice guy.
  20. Thanks for the clean up. Looks better than my pic. That was my wife's job. This pic was before we put the Isky decals on the headlight covers. Isky helped us a lot. Great guys.
