  1. Good night of feature racing! That Sportmod finish was amazing. Great job by Broc Bowen pulling it out after a tough final lap!!
  2. They have a Sprint Show (SUS) and a couple two day shows on the schedule. The last two times I was there we were braving a 40 mph north wind and cold. Was still fun though.
  3. Texana is working hard and I hope it pays off. Neat race track to visit.
  4. As a fan who started going to the races in 1956 or57 at CC Speedway and stayed with the asphalt until Owen took over STS I feel asphalt can make a comeback. The people you need to be asking are those hundreds of former asphalt racers around the state that are running dirt now if they would go back. There are the ones that can tell you cost differences , fun factor etc. One way is to make the rules as close as possible for dirt and asphalt cars. You are going to need existing cars to boost the car counts. Therefore Factory Stocks and Sportmods need to be definite classes. As well as Sport Compacts. The format has to go back to heat races and shorter features. That was the main reason I had no interest in going to Kyle. From what I have read tires seem to be a big issue. There must be a cheaper way to go like going to a harder tire or no slicks other that Pro-Mods. Meanwhile best of luck to HMP and all involved.
  5. Speaking as a fan I'd rather see 2 or three 8 lap heat races and a 25 lap feature than one 50-75 lapper. That is what most of us grew up on .
  6. Well speaking as a fan I truly respect and thank all those who step up as promoters/operators of race tracks. Dirt track operators in particular. To do it right they have to prep and water the track 3 o 4 days a race week which requires a lot of equipment asphalt tracks don't. HMP being to only asphalt track in a 4 state area makes it really tough on the promoter and racer both. The racer hesitates to build a car not knowing how long the track stays open. The track has to hang on long enough for cars to get built to get the ball rolling. As the car count grows and sustains then the purse can grow. To the folks at HMP I wish the best of luck and hope you can hang on long enough to see asphalt racing grow.
  7. Wowza! ASCS , Southern United Sprints and Race Saver Sprints this year! Thank you Texana Raceway Park !
  8. That 92 race was awesome! We went to Longhorn (spectating) several times and always had a good time there.I hope it happens for you asphalt guys.
  9. Gotta say I saw some damn good TIDA/ROMCO races at CC Speedway. And some really good street stock and pure stock races there. I enjoyed every trip to Longhorn as well. So a 1/4 mile can work. When it opens I'll be there ,if STS isn't running, God willing.
  10. I messed that up. If you can get a two and three wide race track that would be awesome .
  11. Great memories there. Go to You Tube search for FredFlix. He has a collection of commercial ls and tv shows of the day. The best stuff is the " Day in the Life" series. Awesome stuff like what you mentioned.
  12. You know, Hi-Tech , we may be getting on in years but we were young in the best of times. Times when kids were playing outside til dark without fear, homes and cars were usually unlocked , oh and the music! No computers , smart phones and three channels to choose from on tv! I think our young lives were fuller than youth of today. We were lucky to be born in the early 50's , be teenagers in the 60's and young adults in the 70's and 80's. Thanks williamg77 for pushing the nostalgia buttons. Now to youtube (the best thing on the internet} for music of the times.
  13. Well Decker sat on the pole at Daytona , ran up front a lot , missed all but one wreck and finished 4rth in I think her first race. Good start at least.
  14. I was there , saw it all. I think that was the biggest crowd in SAS history to boot! The fire extinguisher and its aftermath was a special moment as well. As was the topless girl in the drag strip pit area.
  15. I know Greg Davidson sailed off turn 3 and bounced off a car or two. I have a picture somewhere of Eddie Bierswalle (know spelling cant be right) Late Model resting upside down on top of a MG.Was there when Joe Aramendia took flight between 1 and 2. Called in life flight helicopter which was the coolest thing. Aramendia was ok copter left without him. Man I miss that place!
