Car Counts vs. Purse

Enlight of several Drivers meetings where we talked about Car counts & Costs... i did the math on on Saturday Night's Car Counts.

Ball Park is Total Purse Cost THR $9,250 For Saturday Night on 76 Cars... = ave $122 Per car Take home..

Doing the Math for the Back Gate to cover itself you would need 5 People Per Car. (last time i heard Most promotors expect 3.5 MAX)

Total that up.. Need 370 People in the backgate alone.

If you look at it class wise, Only the Grandstocks & Mini Stocks covered their THR Purse.

I pulled up Heart of Texas's Purse structure to get a compare.

With the Same car counts would need an average of 3.2 People per car.

(used the top purse for each class not the Car count reduced one)

Example purses below, if it was a matter of having a place to race, Would you still race?

*constructive only please

Cars counts in some of the classes keep going down. Legacy's are getting to where odds are good for anyone to win (with all the wrecking). If you aren't racing for the fun of it you may not be happy. I got 4th in points last year but am having way more fun this year not racing for points. Also my payout for 5th last race was 125.00...not bad for just showing up, starting last and having fun.

Does THR charge any fees to bring vehicles in the back gate? Last time we went to I37 it was $25 per person then another $15 on that to bring a vehicle in (if memory serves). Heck, last time I was at the drag strip it was $20 to run a car and that was "for fun"! As odd as it may seem it sounds like racing at THR is a bargain! Nobody wants to pay more to race but it doesn't take long to do that math?

Why does everyone get PAID? Why not just top 10 or 5 or 3. Or make payout based on each divisions car count. Make the purse large enough that when you do good you can buy something more than just covering the cost of the night. Also does $20, $30, $40 or even $50 really help anyone? Just wondering! Plus there would be allot less checks that have to be cut every week. Good luck on this one !!!

I know getting something back always helps. Some are there for enjoyment and dont have the money/meens to run top 3. I know it is more driver than car, but if anyone says money doesn't play big part, They are full of $#!&. I dont race at THR, but that 25/30 or whatever is what helps get the car back to the track another night. JMO!

Start another post CAR COUNTS vs COST OF RACECARS, many wont like it but there needs to be some serious cuts it what a man is spending. Many will say that means i got alot of expensive stuff and I cant run it!!! Yep cause if not you will have an expensive race car that you cant run whats worse??? No class is growing in the houston area except the eco class. Alot of people need to swallow there pride get rid of $1000 dollar shock packages and realize whats good for a class and not themselves. I personally am at a crossroad I love modifieds and I love to win. The way this can be obtained is to spend money which I have but that would make me part of the problem and not part of the solution so I stopped. However I dont run creating me being part of the current problem which is low car counts! JMO

Hey Reb you coming to Houston for the Chassis Challenge? Your expenses are still covered remember!

Hmmm, the top the classes at THR last week had less than 10 cars in each. Instead of asking the general public to give some ideas, why not go straight to the drivers/car-owners as to what they think. And i dont mean the same 3 that get asked every year.

What I've never understood is when the car counts are down why the racers that do show up are the ones who get bitched out by promotors. That's never made any since to me.

For those racers that say they would come race for free or pay to race.....I have a 1/4 dirt track at my house feel free to come by next Sunday. No rules no flag man run what ya brung. I've got plenty of paved parking. There will be no officals and no tech. And no purse money. You can't complain about track conditions you have to run mufflers. I wonder how many cars I will get. I do have trophys but they mostly say gator motorplex and houston motorsports park. Btw I have no saftey crew or fire crew. Hope to see y'all there. Next Sunday. 12pm cordova road in seguin tx. Oh yea no wreckers, but I do have a tractor and a chain. Oh and no scorers we run the honor system for the running and finishing order. You are allowed to fist fight, but only if the other person is willing to do so. Concession will consist of milk apple juice and hi c and tap water.gates open at 10am racing at 12pm. Camping allowed the night before but make sure you close the gate so the horses don't get out cause I will probally be at I 37 or the casino. If your the first one there come knock on the door to make sure I'm up. SEE YA AT THE RACE. THIS IS NOT A JOKE I REALLY WANT TO SEE HOW MANY RACE CARS WE CAN GET. PM FOR ANY QUESTIONS

Aaron,

You ought to be asking John Mandabach this one. They guaranteed the purse this year no matter what the car count and paid start money to last place. Did it work/increase car count? I don't think so, but he can tell you for sure.

THR has a guaranteed purse (hoping to build car count) but doesn't look like it's working. Maybe some people don't know this. I like a check when I show up because it pays my 25.00 in the gate and I can go buy racing fuel for the night. Cheaper classes like minis and grand stocks seem to be doing well.

yes going out there racing for fun is good but i have to travel to thr to race if they started using that payout sheet i would be wasting me time i would save up the money and buy a car local for hmp. alot of drivers go out there for the pay and to have fun. they need a good payout to. i would be broke in 2 races if that was the payout.

Gonna throw in my two cents - (and if you add $12.83 to it you can get a small Starbucks). I see the low car counts resulting from two things - a lack of respect amongst the drivers resulting in a lot of torn up equipment, forcing the low budget teams out of racing.....and 2) the rising cost of being competitive. When the trucks first came out, they were a "Spec" series, with mainly just set up adjustments with little to no upgrades in parts....and according to the oldtimers, and track records, the truck counts were high. As the rules opened up, the counts went down.

I will point to the Eco stock class....NO mods except for safety and a fast growing class.

as far as purses go, I don't think I have EVER gone to the track and made back what I spent, BUT, I will tell you that I don't regret for a SECOND the thousands we spent to get that 3rd Place plaque and ROY Trophy!!

street vehicles are allowed, but run at your own risk. If enough real intrest actually happens yall can decide amongest yourself if you want to seperate cars into classes. if your the winner dont be mad if you get a 2nd place hmp trophy (i have a sharpy).. my wife is gonna pissed that im not charging pit passes. only track rule is "if you knock the fence down you have to stay and fix it" dont worry i have extra t post. if you dont think im serious about the track then just ask speedracer24 he has run on it.

remember its sunday june 26th gates open at 10am racing starts at noon.

if this actually works then we can make this a regular thing. but of course i will have to charge something for track upgrade.

right now the over/under is 5 cars

illegal betting is allowed and encouraged

Lynn,

When did Marc start running? Last time I saw him he was still pretty big...

Marc,

J/K, I havent lost any weight either...

Gunnar,

If you are in, I might just have to bring the 'Stroke out. Haven't had it on an oval track since Justin Oates and I ran side by side at SAS trying to dry the track...

Oh and I've got my monoply money saved up..... ;)

just curious to what you think is so wide open on the trucks? what do you consider an up grade. the crate motors are way cheaper than a good 305 and on the smaller tracks they are better. if your refering to being able to run a non ARTS chassis than that argument died when arts went out of business. as far as respect goes to each there own wrecks happen in racing always have and always will. and somebody will be at "fault". Has anybody paid any attention to the fact that maybe it has something to do with the economy and the guy on the 4 yr plan!!!

I am going to add my pennys worth. The car counts vs purse deal could easily be overcome by giving the entry level cars , eco stocks, mini stocks, frontrunners or whatever their called at your track a big purse like what the big cars get paid.Imagine a 500 to win entry level race eligable to any driver and imagine how many cars there would be.Bar the politics and race everyone.Would a race that starts 40 cars be worth a SS purse?? Would a 50 lap race like this be worth watching???

Its already been said the little cars are the ones growing. The first promoters to add fertilizer and lots of water will see the car counts everyone wants.Another words instead of paying 1500 $ for 8 or 9 super cars, you can buy many times that with the SAME MONEY?? Its so simple to me. Our vanity still makes us think an expensive car gets the big money and little cars dont put on a show..What will it take to wake up and use whats available??? In this economy at least.

The first promoters to do this will need bigger pits.Everybody can afford a cheap car.And a good race director can direct this groop to be a really intresting show. And make profit.
