jakdad
Tommyo, it may take some of us awhile to look at your post/pictures but I think all of us appreciate your posting. Always interested in any Meyers Supermodified/Liberty Bell 300 photos. I have a request, could you post any pictures you have of our Super (Sprint Car), red #30 from Mobile. We ran the Liberty Bell 3 or 4 times with both Bill Roynon and Royce Whitlock as our drivers. Thanks in advance and I look forward to all of your post. I remember that car. I was always impressed how clean it was. What happened to it? Hope you folks are O.K.
NinetyFive
Thanks for the pictures Tommy Does anyone know the origins of the 95 car, was it built here or bought from someone else, NASCAR, USAC, ARCA or IMCA stock car, where did it go after it ran Meyer? thanks for any info, I'm just curious about it. Byron It came out of South Carolina. Not sure who it was from. I remember that Holman and Moody was a household word back then. The car was real different from everything else back then because it was a all coil spring car where all others were leaf spring rear. This picture was the beginning of its demise. It caught a Tony Bettenhouse Jr curve ball. After this it got the Robert Elmore traditional yellow paint scheme. The 427 Ford would not stay together long enough to ever finish too many events and drained everybody's pocketbook. John Abshier (Buzz) took the car but not sure what he ended up doing with it. Buzz passed on in 2010 by the way. It sure ran good when it wasn't blowing up.
txracinfireman
"R" is RICHARD Milligan. I own that same car today and it is under restoration Next up, Visitors, Part II - Cars and drivers that only showed up at Meyer Speedway only a few times, if not only once...These photos all from 1972: James McElreath of Arlington - I have several other photos of James in his #14 Sprinter, so he made more than 1 trip to Meyer that year... Benito Greenley of Dallas - I also have a couple of color photos of this car, for another day... I couldn't decide which of these photos of R. Milligan of Dallas in this #17 Sprint Car to post, so I gave you both...sorry I don't remember what the "R" is for... someone help me out here. Gotta be some Dallas guys "listening in" here somewhere... Sydney Clark of Dallas in this much-discussed-car from Dallas - I will post other drivers in this car later too... Don Carr of Dallas in his #31 Sprinter... Ed Sczeck of Austin Birmingham's Donnie Anthony in his '68 Chevelle Jerry Lawley, also from Birmingham, in a nice-looking #4 Chevelle... Clarence Lovell of San Antonio in another really-sharp Chevelle... I have photos of Clarence from a couple races at Texas World Speedway for later too... Billy Hagen of Baton Rouge in his big Ford LMS Jerry Grant of Austin made at least 1 trip to Meyer Speedway I believe I still have enough visitor photos for 2 more postings, but I may slip some surprises in between them!! The "r" on the Bellmire 17 is RICHARD Milligan. I own that same car today and it is under restoration.

Must of been early 60's He let Butch McQueen drive it one year. Here he is with Butch. Must be the year before Butch took over. Heres one I don't see much of. Roberts Modified with Munson Stoddard Senior.
byron
Holy Moley thanks ninteyfive I did not realize it was you who posted the pictures of the 95 car. I will assume you were part of the crew or related to someone on the crew. I always thought it was probably a Holman Moody car but since that time I have learned that H/M only built three complete cars for the 1966 season because of the boycott over the single overhead cam engines. They did however build many rollers or kits for sale to anyone who was running the 427 wedge engines in the NASCAR/USAC/ARCA and IMCA series. The three original cars have been found and restored to original condition. From what I understand all completed H/M cars had a dash plaque that would identify it as such. Thank you very much ninetyfive for all the photos and information and TommyO if you don't have pictures of this car feel free to substitute another car for us. thanks; Byron
tommyo
RE post # 380 - Now THAT's the #95 car I remember - Not to question your dates, however, I believe the Galaxie might have been earlier than you remember, and of course, YOU were there and I was NOT...I do not remember seeing that car in '69, but I only caught a very few races at the end of the season, and I certainly don't remember it in 1970 either. Did is run as a late-model or a Sportsman car? As I remember it, the Sportsmen cars and NASCAR didn't come along tuntil 1969. I know they were ther in '70 because I still have my NASCAR membership card from that year. Again, THANK you very much for the additional photos...I will get some more photos posted this week (I guess than means either today or tomorrow, doesn't it?).... Oh yeah, I NEVER saw the # 20 Modified either!!!

NinetyFive
I will talk to him and see if he remembers something about that car. I have asked before but I think he likes to have selected memory sometimes when he is busy. He is porch sitting and running an antique store in Hill Country now so maybe he will have more time to think about it. I will pressure him till he does. He is too old to chase me down now. Probably throw something though.

byron
MRC43 Thats the car I thought you were talking about. You need to place a picture of the 43 car with it the next time you put it in a show with a little story about the engine. It would be a great conversation piece for any old Meyer Speedway fan or car guy in general. Thanks, Byron
tommyo
Well I don't 302. Looks a lot like a couple of '68/'69 Chevelles I remember from the NASCAR Late Model Sportsman Stock Cars that raced in Houston in the early '70s, but a different number and paint scheme. I do notice the good hubs and rear axles instead of truck, but that was the norm on any Vita-Fresh funded car. Hopefully, someone may post some info. That #1 Vita Fresh car is Ronnie Chumley, and I previously posted many pictures of it here, but you have to dig back a ways to find them... EsBrown
I personally want to thank you times a million for the photos of Squirrel Billy Perran and the picture of Reg Garner and Don Stodder. My dad is R.C. Bob Brown my Dad along with Billy Perran, Jackie Woosley and Red Garner and their families have been life long friends. My dad was the mechanic and machinist on these cars as well as for I.H. Buddy Evans and Buster Otts Super that Billy Perran drove. I would love to see any picture you can find on Buster Otts # 60 super. We had one picture of Squirrel, Buster and Brown crouched down infront of the car taken at Meyer Speedway with a trophy. I no longer have that picture but if you can find it. I will forever love you. Hahaha thanks so much for the memories. I had forgotten all about Hugh Richards and how could you, he was such a great talent. Also any picture you can find on Bill Ferriss the drive who lost his life on the back stretch at Meyer Speedway would be great and Jackie Woosley. Thanks So Much Esther Brown

tommyo
OK, it's been quite awhile, let's see if I can remember how to do this - it has also been so long that I don't remember everything I have or have not previously posted so let's start with a theme - 1971 Meyer Speedway Drivers with their cars, although many have been previously posted here.... Joe Plowman in his signature & clean # 28 Torino Thou he did not drive it all season, here is Bill Blumrick in the Macon & Kelly Deuce Bill White with the C. Sikes #44 from Jackson, Mississippi Billy Perran and his #9 Super Modified Bobby Gunter with his Chevelle Don Stoddard with car owner Red Garner George Nash in the Fred Furlow #7 And King Richard Petty in his signature #43 from Houston's One-Time Only Space City 300 Mike Court in his M-21 Chevelle Ronnie Chumley in the Gordon Van Liew Chevrolet Tony Barcelona in his beautiful Old Red #8 More to follow, just don't hold your breath.... The '38 Chevy Coupe #20 appears to be a Strictly Stock Car that raced at Playland Speedway/Houston in the late '50s. The gentleman with Robert Elmore with the #20 Car appears to be his very good friend Munson Stodder Jr, father of future drivers Munson III, Don, and Roger Stodder.
