  1. Marlar shines in LOLMDS Magnolia 100-lapper COLUMBUS, Miss. (June 1, 2019) - Mike Marlar charged from his fifth starting spot to win Saturday night's GEICO Clash at the Mag - presented by Big River Steel at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Heath Lawson Photo With the $15,000 victory, Marlar becomes the ninth different winner of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tour in 2019. The 41-year-old Tennessee veteran also became the first three-time winner of the annual Clash at the Mag. Tim McCreadie led the first three laps of the 100-lap main event until Marlar passed him for the top spot. Marlar then held McCreadie at bay for the remainder of the caution-free event to score the win. McCreadie crossed the line in second, marking his third-straight runner-up finish. The current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series point leader, Jonathan Davenport finished in third followed by Josh Richards and Earl Pearson Jr. In Marlar's tenth- career LOLMDS victory, he and his crew were excited in Lucas Oil Victory Lane, remarking: "Typically, you run the bottom here, but lately you could float to the middle which is different than in past years. I had run the bottom for so long and I thought to myself if I am going to get passed it is going to be on the right side of me. I got out of line and passed some lapped cars. It was pretty close down in turn one passing some lapped cars. I had a few close calls." "This place is so racy, that's why we enjoy coming down here," Marlar added. "It's fun to race here and it gets you excited to race here. My car owner and I were wanting to take some time off this year. I was going to drive for Kevin [Rumley] and we just couldn't get everything together. It's clear that he [Rumley] is doing great with McCreadie and my situation is great as well." McCreadie completed a successful weekend as well. "Congrats to Mikey! He was better than us tonight. All-in-all for Sweeteners Plus and Bilstein, we continue to make strides with this whole program. It's been thrown together really quickly, and we are trying our hardest and we are gaining fast. We probably needed a caution to mix things up a little bit. We need more maneuverability and we will really have something." Davenport will maintain the series point lead heading into an off weekend for the series. "We didn't really know what the track was going to do tonight. When we decided to go the car was on point. I know there were guys coming up on the outside of me. We ran the leaders down and got into lapped traffic. We got together with a car down there in turn four and I guess he didn't see me. It towed it in pretty good and we were just hanging on from there. It was one of those what if races for sure." The winner's Ronnie Delk-owned Rocket Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by: Marathon, Mark Martin Timber and Farms, Franklin Enterprises, R.S. Equipment Sales and Rentals, Integra Shocks, and VP Fuels. Completing the top ten were Tyler Erb, Dane Dacus, Devin Moran, Bobby Pierce, and Don O'Neal. 2. Schatz wins first night of Music City Outlaw Nationals Schatz makes late race pass on Bill Balog to be first World of Outlaws winner in Nashville NASHVILLE, TN – Ballads of broken hearts and dirt roads are ingrained in Nashville’s history. On Friday night, a new hit was written during the inaugural World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series Music City Outlaw Nationals at the historic Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. Courtesy of World of Outlaws PR It’s intro, an impassioned announcer filling ear drums with a four-wide call. It’s verse, thunderous 900-hp Sprint Cars shaking a packed grandstand for 30 laps. And its coda, a jubilant Donny Schatz exhaling a single “Woo!” from the top wing of his car with the checkered flag in hand and glimmering confetti floating around him. “Anytime you go anywhere new it’s always good to get a win,” said 10-time Series champion Schatz, after claiming his 286th career win. “We’re in an awesome market that we’ve never been to before. It’s great to win the inaugural race here.” Schatz became the first World of Outlaws driver to win on the quarter-mile Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway track, which is an asphalt track that was covered with about seven million pounds of dirt to accommodate the Series. The Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing driver didn’t just conclude the ballad of the historic race, he was the bridge – the turning point of the night that made fans’ eye lids widen and heart rate increase. He built to that point of the night by first winning his Drydene Heat race and drawing the third starting position for Feature. From there he had to find his way around polesitter Bill Balog and outside polesitter Brad Sweet – who sits runner-up in points to Schatz – in order to claim the first night of the Music City Outlaw Nationals doubleheader. On the first lap, Schatz worked his way under Sweet by hugging the bottom of turns one and two, clearing the Kasey Kahne Racing car before the next turn. The battle was then between the northerners – Fargo, N.D.-native Schatz and Wisconsin resident Balog. Schatz rode the low line throughout the night, keeping a light right foot on the throttle around the tight slick track. Balog stayed a lane above the bottom, finding enough grip to stay ahead of the reigning Series champion, but not enough to increase the distance between them. The duo reached a hoard of lap traffic by Lap nine – a scenario typically tightening the battle for the lead. However, Balog was able to use the traffic to his advantage. At times Schatz would close the gap, but with each lap car Balog passed he put a car length between he and Schatz. Then on Lap 14, caution. Schatz was brought back to being inches away from the yellow No. 17B’s bumper. When the race resumed, Balog didn’t give into the pressure. He maintained his lead and put about a two-car length distance between he and Schatz. The race was building to be the song of Balog’s second career Series win. Then the bridge. With nine laps to go, Balog lost traction off turn four, exiting the corner sideways. By the time he straightened out the car, Schatz was there. His winning performance was over. Schatz slid past Balog for the lead in turn one. Balog attempted to sneak underneath Schatz exiting turn two, but Schatz shut the door, briefly touching his left rear tire with Balog’s right front. “We probably tightened it up too much,” said Balog, who ended up third. “But… leading some laps with the World of Outlaws is pretty awesome. It was disappointing, I made a couple of little mistakes and you can’t do it with them guys. They’re going to get you.” His mistake allowed Schatz to click off laps in the lead until reaching the checkered flag – picking up his third win of the season. “My guys, it’s incredible what they do,” Schatz said. “They’ve been on their game. They’ve been making the race car better and better and better. And it’s fun to drive.” Sweet followed Schatz passed Balog to finish second, but with the No. 15 car finishing one spot ahead of him, Sweet remains second in points, now with a 52-point deficit. Behind the podium, Brent Marks earned his first top-five of the season, finishing fourth, and Sheldon Haudenschild found his way back into the top-five, finishing fifth, after a tough month of May that saw him miss four Features in a row. “It’s definitely good. Good for our team,” Haudenschild said. “I think anytime you get in the top-five is definitely a little bit of a confidence builder and something to build off.” Schatz is also looking to build off his Nashville win to turn his team’s consistent run of top-five finishes into consistent wins. “You’ve got to crawl before you can walk, and you’ve got to walk before you can run and I feel like we’re walking pretty solid, so now it’s time to get running,” Schatz said. With the air strumming of his newly earned metal guitar trophy in Victory Lane and $15,000 prize winnings, Schatz wrote a new ballad into Nashville’s history books. A ballad of heart break. A ballad of dirt roads. And a ballad of outlaws. The World of Outlaws in Nashville. UP NEXT: The World of Outlaws will return to Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway Saturday, June 1, for the final night of the Music City Outlaw Nationals with $25,000-to-win on the line. 3. Win Two for Number Two at Cochran Overton gets his second World of Outlaws win in the Series debut at Cochran Motor Speedway COCHRAN, GA – May 31, 2019 – The first track debut of the season for the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series went very well on Friday night. Warm weather, a great crowd, no threats of rain, a racy track surface… it just all seemed to come together. The same goes for home-state hero Brandon Overton, who picked up his second World of Outlaws win of the year at Cochran Motor Speedway over Chase Junghans and Ricky Weiss. Overton’s night started out well and ended even better. Laying down a lap of 13.781 placed him third overall in Qualifying, and a win in Drydene Heat #3 set him up for an outside-pole redraw effort. But starting to his inside was a man the Outlaws have seen so many times in that position already this season… Brandon Sheppard owned the first half of the night’s events, picking up the PFC Brakes Fast Time Award, winning Drydene Heat #1 and redrawing the pole. Early on in the Morton Buildings Feature, it was looking as though Sheppard was going to have his eighth win in 13 races, but Junghans and Overton had other plans. Sheppard caught the rear of the field on lap 14 with Junghans right on his tail. Junghans, who started behind Overton, had been closing the gap for several laps and drove the car deep into turn one. He stayed with the low line out of turn two while Sheppard hit the cushion, and they both drag raced down the backstretch. Using the O1 car of Travis Pennington as a pick, Junghans was able to slide under Sheppard for the lead. For the next 14 laps, Junghans held a strong lead, until he caught lapped traffic himself with Overton (who passed Sheppard on lap 18) within a single car length behind. Overton pulled up alongside Junghans going into turn one and held the bottom line, while Junghans followed Clint Smith on the top. Casey Roberts came out of turn two on the low side but slid up into the middle groove going down the backstretch, which prompted Junghans to try and thread the needle into turn three between Overton and Roberts. His attempt was unsuccessful, and Overton got the best of both cars, holding the low line through the corner to take the lead. “I knew if I could beat [Junghans] to the brown [part of the track] and just get stuck, I could probably get ahead of him,” Overton said. “It was tight racing but neither one of us wrecked each other. I just got the position and stayed as close to the brown as I could, got a good run and just tried not to overrun the corners after that.” That move proved to be the one that won the race, as “Big Sexy” led the final 21 laps to pick up the fifth Morton Buildings Feature win of his career. “I finally feel excited to be back racing,” he said. “Everyone’s getting along really good right now. It just took us a little while to figure out what everybody wanted, what Harold [Holly, Rum Runner Racing crew chief] wants to see. I’m just really happy about the whole deal, it’s finally coming together.” Indeed, Overton is glad to be back in Victory Lane. He started off the 2019 season with a win at Screven Motor Speedway but fell off a bit in the races that followed, as he posted only one top-10 finish over his next seven starts with the Outlaws. The new partnership between he and car owner Joey Coulter brought about immediate success and new challenges to overcome. And overcome Rum Runner Racing has, as the Schaeffer Racing Oil #2 put on a show Friday night and made quite a statement win. “It’s taken a lot of lows for us to finally click,” Overton said of the relationship with his new crew chief. “I couldn’t be in a better situation as far as car owners go. Me and Joey get along really good. His parents are awesome, they love racing, and I hope I stay here for a long time.” This win marks the second in his home state of Georgia with the Outlaws. Overton grew up racing on many tracks similar to Cochran, and he feels that “home field advantage” really played a role in his success over 50 laps. “I didn’t look at the racetrack all night. I didn’t look at it before I hot lapped, before I qualified or before I went out for the feature,” he said. “When I rolled up for the feature, that was the first time I looked at it. I think just knowing where the groove’s going to go to and if it’s going to move around, it’s a big advantage.” After Overton made the move for the lead, Junghans was able to hold onto second for his fifth top-five of the season. After starting off 2019 with four top-5s in the first seven races, he did not post another until Friday night. Junghans credits he and the crew’s hard work and resilience to get things right with the setup. “We’re definitely going in the right direction with our car,” he said. “We’ve been struggling lately. We changed a bunch of stuff the last couple weeks and have been working hard on it, and it’s definitely showing.” Junghans said he knew the adjustments were working when he saw he was gaining on Sheppard early on. “[Sheppard’s] car’s been really good this year,” he said. “When we fired and I was keeping up with him, I was thinking ‘oh, we’ve got something now.’” Lapped traffic seemed to play quite a bit of a role in where the leaders finished this race, as both passes for the lead were made in the middle of it. “I knew because my crew guy was signaling to me that [Overton] was getting close,” Junghans said. “It was like a hornet’s nest with all of those lapped cars. I would go high and one of them would go high, then I’d go low and another would go low, it was kind of a roadblock for us.” Headingley, Manitoba’s Ricky Weiss had a strong night inside the top 5, scoring his second straight finish on the podium at a track he had previously not seen. “Our car’s in one piece, it was a great points night, and they say we were catching [the top two] at the end, so that’s always a plus,” Weiss said. His move to get around Brandon Sheppard came on lap 35. Another lapped car got in Sheppard’s way and Weiss, who had been chomping at the bit for several laps, was able to throw a slidejob to snag the position. His only regret was that the race went caution-free. “We had a pretty good battle there,” Weiss said. “I was really hoping for a caution once I got around him just to see what I had for the leaders, but it didn’t pan out that way.” Next on the Outlaws’ schedule is another debut at a very fast Southeastern half-mile, the Lancaster Motor Speedway in Lancaster, SC. Hot laps begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on DIRTVision, don’t miss what’s sure to be another exciting night of action!

Russell Hobbs comments: “It’s been my dream since I was a youngster to build, own and operate a dirt oval track, and this has been quite the experience so far. I’m thankful to have some behind-the-scenes people and staff that have helped quick-start the process so we could avoid as many of the learning curve challenges as possible. And I always wanted to host a sprint car event, and since I contacted the Sprint Car Bandits series early in December, they have been very helpful and resourceful in bringing that dream to a reality. We just had a really good outlaw modified race last Friday, and I believe we’ll have an AWESOME night of sprint car racing on June 1st as well. 7. Sprint Car Bandits Serires featured in ‘Grand Opening 25’ at the new Buffalo Creek Speedway – This Saturday, June 1st, 8 pm - $1,500 to win, $1,000 for 2nd & $300/start Canton, TX (05/27/19) - The 360C.I. NCRA Sprint Car Bandits (SCB) series 2019 ‘DARE TO BE DIFFERENT’ Tour is headed to the brand new 1/4-mile dirt oval of Buffalo Creek Speedway (BCS) in Canton Texas THIS Saturday, June 1st with the running of the ‘Grand Opening 25.’ Joining the Sprint Cars will be the Southern Topless Economy Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Limited Modifieds and Texas Stocks. The sprint cars will run no later than third in the racing program. The night will kick off with the SCB Fan Fest in front of the grandstands from 6:30 until about 7:15pm, with racing to follow. The new facility offers obstruction-free viewing from any seat, a unique ‘standing room’ viewing area on the front stretch and true ‘in your face’ racing action – all in the confines of a Texas ‘country’ style atmosphere. :30 BCS Rewind: At the epicenter of the 1980's rebirth to the modern Deep Ellum scene in downtown Dallas, Texas, Russell Hobbs has been at the forefront of it all, by creating, launching and operating businesses such as Theatre Gallery, The Prophet Bar and The Door. About 15 years ago, Hobbs opened Buffalo Creek MX Park in Canton, and the new Buffalo Creek Speedway is contained within the sprawling property that features lots of trees and natural country Texas scenery. It is truly a unique setting for dirt track racing. I'd also like to thank Hall Chevrolet, Buick and GM of Canton/Tyler, Whitehouse Tuning of Terrell and RockAuto.com for their support of the speedway.” RACE FANS: Make plans to arrive early at the track to take in the pre-race Sprint Car Bandits “Fierce 15” Fan Fest! It will take place directly in front of the grandstand from 6:30pm until about 7:15pm. There, you can meet the drivers of the Fierce 15, get selfies, purchase their 2019 t-shirt designs (get them autographed!) and get a good close look at the cars. The timing of this event also coincides with the popular ‘First Monday Trade Days’ event, which is located literally less than a 10-minute drive from BCS on Hwy 19 within the Canton city limits, so you might want to make a day of it by stopping by it on your way to the races! If you’d like to get your brand new Fierce 15 driver t-shirts prior to Fan Fest, the new online store at www.SprintCarBandits.com is now open. Reminder, that proceeds from Fierce 15 driver apparel benefits each individual driver that is a part of the program, so please show your support by grabbing one when you can...and your support will help drivers better funded throughout the season. Buffalo Creek Speedway is located at 10180 State Highway 19 in Canton and is very easy to get to. Just take the Hwy 19 exit from either direction off I-20 in Canton, then head north approximately four miles and the track entrance will be on the west (left) side of the road. It is also just a short 10-minute drive from the popular First Monday Trade Days in Canton. From Hwy 80, just exit South on Hwy 19 and go three miles south and you will see the track entrance on the West (right) side of the highway. Click www.BCS19.com for all track news and details. Adult G.A. (ages 12-64) tickets for this event are sold at the ticket booth on race night only and are $20. Grandstand kids (ages 6-11) are $5, and pit passes are $35. 8. MEMORIAL DAY SPECTACLE NASCAR’s Kyle Larson claims World of Outlaws win at Lawrenceburg Speedway after intense battle with Christopher Bell Kyle Larson versus Christopher Bell. It’s a tale that’s been told many times, in many ways. But Larson’s World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series victory Monday night at Lawrenceburg Speedway may be the most enticing tale of them, yet. And controversial. Or as Larson put it, “It was a heck of a race.” The stage was set at the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash draw. Larson drew the second-place starting spot. Bell drew the pole. Behind them, an abundance of fast World of Outlaws stars, such as two-time winner at the speedway, Shane Stewart, and 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz. Bell dominated them all in the Dash. He was three-tenths of a second quicker than Larson and ended the eight-lap race more than two seconds in front of him. Larson’s runner-up finish placed the two NASCAR stars back on the front row for the 35-lap Feature. Larson versus Bell. Again. This chapter of the tail usually ends in Bell’s favor, though. During the Turkey Night Classic midget race last year, Bell beat Larson for the second consecutive year. And earlier this year, Bell denied Larson his first Chili Bowl Nationals win by passing him late in the race to claim his third Chili Bowl win in-a-row. Larson also had to cope with defeat during the first night of the World of Outlaws Patriot Nationals race at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Friday. After dominating the majority of the Feature, a late race mistake allowed Giovanni Scelzi to slip by the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series $1 million All-Star winner and roll into Victory Lane. Bell and Larson were hungry for another win. However, Stewart looked to spoil the NASCAR party in the early stage of the race by charging to second on the first lap and keeping pace with Bell – making it an Oklahoma-native shootout at the front. No one could touch Bell, though. Once the No. 39 Swindell SpeedLab car clicked off laps on the high side of the 12-degree banked track, he out paced Stewart every lap. Larson was mired in third-place watching another potential victory drive away. However, cautions came to Larson’s rescue. With 19 laps to go, Sheldon Haudenschild spun directly in front of Bell, bringing out the second caution of the night – the first being early in the race for Spencer Bayston breaking a rear end. On the restart, Larson rode the cushion through turns one and two and carried enough momentum to throw a slide job underneath Stewart the next corner. Coming off turn four, the two made contact. Both kept control of their car, but it was to the benefit of Larson. He secured second-place, while Stewart eventually faded to fourth-place after an intense battle with Schatz for third. From there, Larson seemed destined for another runner-up finish. There was no catching Bell. Then came Lap 27. Bell slid up into the cushion in turn two, throwing his 27 laps of domination out the window. In the second it took Bell to correct his car, the white No. 57 was there. Larson torpedoed his car underneath Bell in turn three and cleared him through the center of the turn. Bell charged back, getting a run to the outside of Larson down the front stretch. This was it. This was the battle fans waited at the edge of their seat for. Side by side going into turn one, both were committed to their line. Bell pressed to the cushion. Larson a lane below. The two were close enough to grab each other’s steering wheel. Then, those fans at the edge of their seat left them. The hard racing between Larson and Bell resulted in the black No. 39 jumping the cushion and spinning through the air before tumbling to the center of the turn. Bell’s night was over. “I’m not sure what happened into (turn) one there,” Larson said after the race. “He probably didn’t know exactly where I was going. He thought I might slide myself or what, and I think I just entered in a spot that put him in a bad spot and he probably got tight on the cushion.” From Bell’s point of view, “I didn’t run him over, but I didn’t have an option.” “My car was really fast,” a dejected Bell said. “The thing was the best I’ve ever been here, for sure. Thank you to Kevin and Jordan (Swindell) for allowing me to drive their car. So, bummer we didn’t win.” Larson said he didn’t feel any contact between the two of them. “It was unfortunate on his part to wreck,” Larson said. “It would have been a good battle for the fans, but at the same time it’s always nice when you don’t have to battle Chris for a win because he’s so good.” There were still seven laps to go, and Larson now had Schatz and Scelzi lurking behind him. But once the race went back green, Larson put a period on the night charging to his seventh career Series win at the Memorial Day Spectacular presented by KOI Auto Parts. “These Outlaw wins are so hard to win,” Larson said, while holding a new burgundy and gold trophy to add to his collection. “I mean, you’ve got Bell, leading, he’s one of, if not the best drivers in the country or in the world right now, in open wheel cars. And Donny Schatz (the Series' points leader by 48 points), who’s arguably the best in winged sprint cars. So, to beat those two feels really cool.” Larson versus Bell. It’s a tale that’s been told many times and will continue to be told for years to come. This time, though, Larson won. 9. I have a hard time on Memorial Day. Some of us went overseas and we came back. Others, including some I trained with and went to high school with, came back in a body bag. Those of us who returned home have had to deal with the unspoken guilt we felt, whether we admitted it or not, for coming home when they didn't. So I don't say "Happy Memorial Day," because to many veterans, as well as the loved ones of those who did not return home, it's not a "happy" day, but rather a day to honor the sacrifice others have made on our behalf. 11. John Carney II Victorious In Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series Thriller At Lake Ozark Speedway by Bryan Hulbert ELDON, Mo. (May 26, 2019) In a thriller that had everyone guessing who would take the win at Lake Ozark Speedway, El Paso's John Carney II held off the hard-charging duo of Jonathan Cornell and Matt Covington for his first victory of the season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network on Sunday night. Jessica Edminston photo "Man this feels good. We've been working hard, and we've had a fast car. Just haven't caught any breaks and I guess we did catch at least one tonight, but this car was great. Every who helps me, South Plains Auto Transport, Danny Sander Construction, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Jackson Compaction....just everyone it means a lot. It takes lots of help to operate up and down the road, and without them, I couldn't be here racing. It's a lot of fun to get to come out here and do this," stated Carney in Victory Lane. Carney's fourth career victory with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, the battle between he and early race leader, Matt Covington, saw the duo trade the lead nearly a dozen times with each answering the other's slide job over the course of the $5,000 to win feature event. Taking the point after a second attempt at the start, Covington led the way with the race halted on Lap 6 when Sam Hafertepe, Jr. and Kyle Bellm came together battling for third; sending the pair flipping violently into the third and fourth turns. Both drivers were unharmed but unable to continue. Restarting with Jamie Ball and John Carney II in tow, Covington held the point as Carney worked to second on a Lap 7 restart for a stopped No. 28 of Scott Bogucki. Working the low side of the Lake Ozark Speedway, Carney advanced to the point on Lap 10 with the pair exchanging the position several times before Carney was able to get some breathing room. Short-lived as the pair hit traffic, Carney found his line blocked; allowing the Triple X Race Co. No. 95 to make the high line pass working Lap 20, but the caution would bring the field back to Lap 19, and the Danny Sander Construction No. J2 back to the lead. Keeping pace on the field at the restart, Carney continued to work the hub as Covington railed the cushion. Going after the lead with five to go, the pair were joined by Jonathan Cornell with the No. 35m looking anywhere they weren't. Slide for slide, Carney, and Covington exchanged the lead with Cornell nearly taking it away several times as the laps clicked by. To the white flag, and still anyone's race, Carney made his car as wide as possible as the trio dove into the final two turns. A drag race to the checkered flag, Carney snagged the win by 0.194 seconds with Jonathan Cornell getting the last lap pass for the runner-up spot. Matt Covington in a close, and badly needed third after flipping on Saturday night, trailed by a mere 0.911 seconds. Running inside the top five nearly the entire race, Paul Nienhiser held on to fourth with Jamie Ball making a nice rebound run to fifth. Advancing 14 positions after having to race his way in through the second B-Feature, Blake Hahn was the night's hard charger in sixth. Terry McCarl was seventh with Sean McClelland eighth. Retaking the point's lead, Roger Crockett rallied from 14th to ninth for a pair of top tens on the weekend. Finishing 10th for the second night in a row was Jordon Mallett. Seeing several weekly competitors for Knoxville Raceway make the trip on Sunday, 38 drivers broke down into five Heat Races that went to Kyle Bellm, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Matt Covington, Jamie Ball, and Carson McCarl. A pair of B-Features were topped by Chris Martin and Scott Bogucki. Three drivers utilized provisionals with Harli White using a National Owner Point's Provisional. Miles Paulus entered on the ASCS Warrior Region Provisional with Aryton Gennetten gifted a Promoter's Provisional. The next event for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network is Saturday, June 1 at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas. Fans not able to attend can find the weekend broadcast live at http://www.racinboys.com. 14. Sorensen dusts USMTS drivers at Deer Creek SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (May 25)--On the anniversary of his first USMTS triumph, Dustin Sorensen of nearby Rochester, Minn., doubled his career win total Saturday with another wire-to-wire victory at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn. Courtesy of USMTS PRIt was Saturday night of Memorial Day Weekend last year when Sorensen led all 40 laps of the main event to become the youngest ever to stand in USMTS victory lane, breaking the record held by two-time USMTS National Champion Ryan Gustin since 2008.Now 18 years, 6 months and 24 days old, Sorensen has a second $3,000 check from the USMTS and a second champion's trophy from the Crenlo Southern Minnesota Spring Challenge presented by Real Racing Wheels. And just like last year, Sorensen found himself on the front row for the start of the 40-lap feature, but this time from the Sybesma Graphics Pole Position.Grant Junghans USMTS Rookie of the Year points leader Hunter Marriott of Brookfield, Mo., garnered his first win with the series earlier this year, and nearly had his second of the season but was unable to find a way around Sorensen despite chasing him the entire distance.Gustin, who has collected seven checkered flags at Deer Creek, found himself starting 13th but worked the top side of the high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval to garner a third-place finish and assume the points lead in the Spike Hardcore Energy USMTS Northern Lights Series.Brandon Davis followed 'The Reaper' to the finish line while 14th-starting Zack VanderBeek maneuvered his way into the top five by the end of the race.Current Casey's General Stores USMTS National Championship points leader Rodney Sanders secured the sixth spot, Adam Hensel was seventh, Jake O'Neil earned an eighth-place finish, Lucas Schott nabbed ninth and two-time USRA Modified National Champion Jason Cummins completed the top ten.Saturday night's victory was worth $3,000 to Sorensen whose father, Mike Sorensen, has five career USMTS wins to his credit as well and is one of the winningest drivers in the history of the Deer Creek Speedway.Nordic Nationals Next: The Memorial Day Weekend tripleheader wraps up with the 12th Annual American Racer Nordic Nationals at the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, Iowa, on Sunday. The Arnold Motor Supply Iron Man Challenge featuring American Racer USRA Stock Cars and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods will join the USMTS Modifieds for a second straight night, with the Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stocks rounding out Sunday's card.VanderBeek collected his first of three USMTS wins at the Upper Iowa Speedway during his rookie campaign in 2005. Gustin, Hughes, Tesch, Al Hejna and Johnny Scott are two-time winners here. The pit gate opens at 2 p.m., grandstands open at 3, hot laps start at 6 and the first heat race hits the track at 6:30. General admission is $20 while seniors (65+) and juniors (ages 12-16) get in for just $5. Kids ages 11 and under are free. Pit passes are $35.The Upper Iowa Speedway is a semi-banked 1/4-mile dirt oval located 1.8 miles east of US 52 on SR 9, then 1.0 mile northwest on Montgomery St., then northeast on E. Main St. at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds in Decorah, Iowa (900 E Main St, Decorah, IA 52101). 15. Logan Schuchart fends off a hard charging James McFadden to win at Charlotte Inches before Logan Schuchart claimed his third World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win of the season, he could feel defeat breathing down his neck. To it, he said, not today. Even with few options to stop it. Life was close to leaving his right rear tire – a used tire from last year. It seemed inevitable. He claimed the lead with the assist of several drivers blowing a tire during the second night of the $15,000-to-win United Rentals Patriot Nationals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Saturday. That caused Schuchart’s right foot to become wary of the throttle in the closing laps of the Feature. “I was trying to be kind of conservative and not spin the tires, not run it into the corner very hard, try to not wear the tire very much,” Schuchart said. A second too long on the throttle or off it handed defeat the win. That was not an option, though. He had something to lose. The top four in points blew a tire with a handful of laps to go, giving Schuchart the opportunity for a healthy points gain. Behind him, though, defeat had nothing to lose. Australian James McFadden, running just his second race in the No. 9 Kasey Kahne Racing car, is only driving the car until an injured Kahne is ready to return. Points are of no concern. He’s there to win at no cost. To McFadden, defeat was in front of him, and he was going to do whatever it took to beat it. Having blown a tire in the early stage of the race, McFadden managed to stay on the lead lap and use his newly granted right rear grip to blow by anxiety-ridden drivers trying to save their tire. “We just had nothing to lose, really,” McFadden said. “Everyone was trying to conserve, and I wasn’t.” With three laps to go, McFadden became the hare chasing tortoises. Due to his carefree ability to run his car as hard as he wanted and several drivers blowing a tire, he went from 16th on Lap 27 to 5th on Lap 28. A lap later he was in the podium. A caution flew with one lap to go, setting up a green-white-checkered finished. On the start, he blew by Kerry Madsen on the high side to take second. Next became a duel between the Tasmanian devil and the shark. McFadden had nothing to lose, but Schuchart said he was going to make his Shark Racing car as wide as he could. Coming off turn two on the final lap, McFadden launched off the corner and went from being two car lengths back to on Schuchart’s bumper. Then into the final turn, both drivers threw their car into the turn. McFadden up top. Schuchart on the bottom. A car length distance grew between the two through turn three, but coming off turn four McFadden had a race winning run. Schuchart knew it. Defeat was breathing down his neck. His only option was to move up a lane, blocking McFadden’s run. “I knew somebody would be coming, especially the guys who changed their tire,” Schuchart said. “I heard James when we went through (turns) one and two. I just tried to make my car as wide as possible. Definitely if we had another corner, he would have got by me. But it all worked out great.” McFadden wishes there was that extra corner. “It was good fun. I wish we had a couple of more laps,” McFadden said. “We were pretty decent there.” McFadden did earn the hard charger award for the night, after starting 18th. Schuchart had his own impressive charge, coming from 14th to win – the furthest back a driver has come from this year to win. His win leaves him fifth in points – 136 points behind leader Donny Schatz. It was more than a 20-point gain from the night before. Schatz ended the race 11th, after being three laps from victory before blowing a tire. Brad Sweet, who sits second in points – 42 points behind Schatz – also blew a tire after taking the lead from Schatz, finishing 18th. Schuchart’s right rear tire resembled an asphalt modified tire more than a Sprint Car tire after the 31-lap Feature, making he and his team shake their head on how it survived. “I knew I had a lot more rubber than the other cars, just by looking at them and when I go into the corner the last five laps it just felt like it wanted to drive right by them,” Schuchart said. “I don’t know why. This thing [the tire] was used. I’m pretty sure it was up in the rack from last year. So, maybe if it sits for a while it adds something to it. “I actually wasn’t real happy with the tire being put on before the race, but it lasted and it got us the win.” With defeat breathing down his neck, Schuchart and his used – now very used – right rear tire said, not today. 16. Hafertepe Makes It Three In A Row With The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series by Bryan Hulbert ELDON, Mo. (May 25, 2019) Dominating one week ago in Michigan, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. carried that momentum into Missouri for his third win in as many races with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network coming at Lake Ozark Speedway on Saturday night. Courtesy of ASCS PR "Hats off to my guys. They did a hell of a job tonight, just like they've been doing all year long. That's three in a row and we're going to keep on going. Lock-in cars or not, we're going to try to get it done tomorrow night," commented Hafertepe, who has taken command of the National Tour point standings by 14 markers. High point driver out of the Heat Races, the Heidbreder Foundation No. 15h drew the fourth starting spot for the 25 lap affair. Chasing John Carney II and Evan Martin on the first lap, the caution flew working lap two as John Schulz, Alex Hill, and Austin Alumbaugh all came to a rest in the second turn. Throwing a deep slide in the restart, Hafertepe took the battle three deep off the fourth turn to grab the lead on the second lap. Pulling a considerable lead on the field, Hafertepe began finding slower traffic as the race progressed past Lap 10. Running top shelf around the Lake Ozark Speedway, Hafertepe's lead started going the other way with every passing turn as the Danny Sander Construction No. J2 of John Carney II worked patiently around the hub of the Speedway. Closing the gap to mere car lengths, Carney tried for the lead on Lap 13, but without enough pull off the fourth turn, showed Hafertepe the line and allowed the No. 15h to transition off the cushion just before the caution lights clicked on for Bryan Grimes. Green for another lap, the yellow flag flew as Matt Covington made contact with Roger Crockett racing for third; spinning the No. 95 down the back straightaway. Overtaken by Roger Crockett on the restart with a middle groove pass in the first and second turn, Carney slipped to third as the Route 66 Chevrolet of Tulsa No. 11 worked on keeping pace with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Both working varying low lines, with Hafertepe a car width higher on the track, Sam again built a comfortable advantage only to have a caution dash his momentum while working Lap 23. Red for Matt Covington on the restart, the field took the green for the final time with a three-lap dash seeing Hafertepe win by 2.647 seconds. Asked about the late race caution and red, Sam explained, "It's tough to know where to be. I felt really good on the top in three and four and that's really where I wanted to stay, but I didn't want open the lane with three to go with those guys causing the cautions and reds at the end. It really gets you guessing." Roger Crockett held on for second with the race for third going three-wide off the final turn with John Carney II taking the spot by 0.166 seconds with a high side pass on Miles Paulus, who was the night's hard charger coming from 17th to fourth, and Evan Martin to complete the top five. Eldon, Missouri's Kory Bales advanced nine spots to sixth with Sean McClelland moving from 10th to seventh. Racing as high as fourth in the late stages of the A-Feature, the final restart saw Jonathan Cornell slip back to eighth with Kaley Gharst and Jordon Mallett making up the top ten. A field of 33 drivers was on hand for Night 1 of the Lake Ozark Speedway Spring 360 Nationals. Four SCE Gaskets Heat Races went to Roger Crockett, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., John Carney II, and Jonathan Cornell. A pair of BMRS B-Features were topped by Miles Paulus and Randy Martin. Owner Point Provisionals were used by Jamie Ball and Robbie Price. A Promoter's Provisional was given to Steven Russell. Racing this weekend continues at Lake Ozark Speedway on Sunday, May 26 with races getting underway at 7:30 P.M. (CT). Tickets for Sunday, May 6 are $25 for Reserved Seats, $22 for General Admission, $20 for Senior and Military, and free for kids eight and under. 17. Wayne Johnson Rebounds From Engine Failure For ASCS Gulf South/Lone Star Victory by Bryan Hulbert - MESQUITE, Texas (May 25, 2019) With an engine expiring under the hood of his Outlaw Wings No. 2c during his Heat Race, Wayne Johnson fought out of the B-Feature and proceeded to put on a driving clinic Saturday night in the Griffith Truck and Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region vs. ASCS Lone Star Region showdown at the famed Devil's Bowl Speedway. Courtesy of ASCS PR Rolling to second in the B-Feature from 12th, the transfer put Wayne starting 16th in the A-Feature. Picking his way through the running order, the wily veteran took over the point on Lap 10 and never looked back. Tony Bruce, Jr. made a last-minute appearance after Mother Nature nixed his TBJ Promotions event in Garden City, Kan. and made it worthwhile with a second-place finish. Joe Wood, Jr. came up from 10th to complete the night's podium. Kevin Ramey from 13th crossed fourth with Jordan Weaver crossing fifth. Also coming out of the B-Feature, 19th starting Forrest Sutherland crossed sixth. Jake Bubak in seventh has Steven Shebester in tow. Scott Evans and Chad Wilson made up the top ten. Griffith Truck and Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region will again take on the ASCS Lone Star Region on Sunday, May 26 at Lonestar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas. 18. Inaugural Nashville Fairgrounds DIRTcar Clash in the Books NASHVILLE, TN – May 25, 2019 – Almost two weeks’ worth of track prep and 181 truckloads of dirt later, the inaugural Fairgrounds DIRTcar Clash is in the books. And what a turnout it was on Saturday night at the track, in the grandstands and the pit area. A total of 104 cars passed through the pit gates of Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville, in four divisions of 17 DIRTcar Pro Late Models, 36 Quicksilver Performance Street Stocks, 18 Pure Mini Stocks and 33 Mod Lites. Four Qualifying sessions set four new track records around the 1/4-mile – Matt Cooper (Pro Late Models) [16.339]; T.J. Herndon (Street Stocks) [17.235]; Aaron Ashcraft (Pure Mini Stocks) [19.192]; Jon Padille (Mod Lites) [16.769]. Remarkably, three of these drivers went on to win their respective Feature race, displaying their piloting prowess over their opponents. After 14 Heat Races and a bit of track preparation, the DIRTcar Pro Late Models took to the track one final time for their Feature, where fast qualifier, Heat Race #1 winner and polesitter Matt Cooper put on a dominant display of short track mastery, as he led all 20 laps en route to winning the very first Feature ever ran on dirt at the Nashville Fairgrounds. “This is really special,” Cooper said with a big smile on his face. “We’re not asphalt racers, but everybody knows the history of this racetrack, so it’s real special.” What a feat his performance was, considering Cooper was one driver who did not take a single lap of practice prior to Hot Laps on Saturday. He very quickly adapted to the expertly prepared racing surface, courtesy of Scott Woodhouse from Thunderbowl Raceway and William Scogin of Clarksville Speedway. With no prior track time, Cooper made the most of the uncharted territory, and was very pleased with the results. “The track was actually better than I thought it was going to be,” Cooper said. “I thought it might’ve gotten rough, but it actually stayed together pretty good.” Echoing the McKenzie, TN-native, runner-up Brad Skinner also said it was a great race and a really fun track to drive on. But that enjoyment didn’t come without a good sense of competitiveness. “Unfortunately, I had to bump a couple of people,” Skinner said. “We moved up a few positions and I’m pretty happy about that. And we made history [in the process].” Skinner came from his fifth starting spot and battled his way up to third by lap four, then made the move for second on lap 16 and spent the remaining circuits putting pressure on Cooper. In the end, he was unable to catch the leader, but said he was glad to have the opportunity to be a part of an event as special as this. “I had a ball,” Skinner said after the race. “I can’t complain a bit. Last night, I came here to practice and it was a little more hooked up, you could hammer it off in the corners. It dried out a bit tonight, but still a lot of fun.” Steve Peeden came from the deepest in the field out of the podium finishers to cross the line in third. In 20 laps, Peeden made the charge from ninth and did his small crew of girlfriend and mother (who also drove 5.5 hours in the truck with him from their home town in Indiana) proud, after making repairs from his qualifying round. “We knocked the wall down in qualifying and knocked the spoiler off of it,” Peeden said. “It got a little sketchy a couple of times, but it was a heck of a race for us.” After the DIRTcar Pro Late Models had concluded, the Pure Mini Stocks took to the track in what ended up being a great battle between Heat Race winners Joseph McGhee and Aaron Ashcraft. After not receiving a Qualifying time due to a mechanical failure in the staging lane, McGhee came back to win his heat race convincingly, earning himself a third-place starting spot for the Feature. With just four laps remaining, McGhee took the lead, and the first Pure Mini Stocks Feature win at Nashville. The Quicksilver Street Stock Performance Series then came out for their Feature, won by fast qualifier T.J. Herndon. Herndon wrestled the lead away from Dale Nelson by lap 5 and didn’t look back, leading every lap from there on out to pick up the win, besting each of his 35 other competitors in the pit area. Last, but certainly not least, was the Mod Lite division, which saw Jon Padille, from Illinois, pick up the victory after setting fast time earlier in the evening. The track size seemed to work well for the 32 cars in the division, as they were able to lay down, approximately, the second-best average lap times behind only the Pro Late Models. Overall, through three hours of practice on Friday night and 187 total laps of racing on Saturday, it was quite the first weekend out on a brand-new track. The DIRTcar Racing staff would like to thank each of the teams who came out to put on a show and every race fan that came out to spend their weekend at the track. …but the fun in Nashville doesn’t stop here! The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars will be rolling into town for a two-day show next Friday and Saturday, May 31 and June 1. Come see 10-time Champion Donny Schatz, Kasey Kahne Racing veteran Brad Sweet, rising star Logan Schuchart and all of your favorite Outlaws take on Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in “The Greatest Show on Dirt!” Get your tickets now, before they’re gone! 20. NOTICE: ASCS Rules Amendment by Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (May 25, 2019) Concerning two-day events with the American Sprint Car Series, an amendment has been made to the Rulebook in regards to lock-in drivers from the first night. The Top-Four drivers from the first night of competition will no longer lock into the second day of a two-day show, meaning all two-day events are treated with each night as it's own standalone event. One thing not changed is in order to be eligible for the redraw on the second night, the driver must have drawn in and attempted to compete on the first night. "I apologize for making the change after the season started. We talked about this last season and meant to make the change before PRI, and it got overlooked. We raced last weekend at I-96 Speedway and honored it because it was already a part of the weekend program, but going forward there will be no lock-ins from the first night to the second on ASCS two-day events," commented ASCS Founder, Emmett Hahn. Events like Dirt Cup, Knoxville 360 Nationals, and the Hockett/McMillin Memorial do not follow the two-day format and are special events with unique formats that use event points. The rule now reads as follows, "On the second night for a two-day event at the same track, all driver will re-qualify. No lock-ins from the first night. The top four in passing points (who drew in and attempted to compete on the first night) will draw for positions 1-4 with the next four drivers in Passing Points drawing for positions 5-8." Questions regarding ASCS Rules and Format can be directed to the ASCS Office at (918) 838-3777. Rules are posted at https://www.ascsracing.com/series-info/rules.aspx For other news, notes, and information on the American Sprint Car Series, from the National Tour to any of the nine Regional Tours that make up ASCS Nation in 2019, log onto http://www.ascsracing.com, follow on Facebook, on Instagram, and on Twitter (@LucasOilASCS).
  21. Giovanni Scelzi beats NASCAR’s Kyle Larson to win first night of the United Rentals Patriot Nationals in Charlotte A gasp echoed over the field of 24 thunderous Sprint Cars raging around the 4/10-mile Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Goliath fell. David won. Seventeen-year-old Giovanni Scelzi did the unthinkable. He passed a dominate Kyle Larson in the closing laps of night one of the United Rentals Patriot Nationals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Friday night. In doing so, he claimed his second World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win. “That’s so cool,” said Scelzi, choosing his words with hesitation, as those having to convince himself it actually happened. “I can’t believe I got by him. Normally when he (Larson) gets away, he’s gone.” Larson – still riding the momentum of his $1 million NASCAR All-Star win – showed no signs of rust in a Sprint Car by Qualifying fourth, finishing second in his Drydene Heat race and winning the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash. With all of the attention on Larson, Scelzi quietly pieced together a competitive run. He also finished second in his Drydene Heat race and finished runner-up to Larson in the Dash. When the 30-lap Feature went green, Larson left Scelzi to play with Brad Sweet and David Gravel for second-place. In the early stage of the race, Gravel looked to be the one potential car to challenge Larson, charging his way from fourth to second by lap four. Scelzi shutdown Gravel’s hope of another win the next lap with a slide job through turns one and two to reclaim second. Gravel made the same move the next lap, but Scelzi outpowered the No. 41 car again through turns three and four. By the time Scelzi returned to second, Larson was gone. Riding the high side of the speedway, the No. 57 of Larson became a speck in the cloud of dust to Scelzi. However, the teenager’s duel with Gravel taught him a lesson. “David passed me and when I got by him, I knew it was time to go to the top,” Scelzi said. Moving to the top kept Scelzi on pace with Larson, but as the track began to rubber up, he moved a lane down again. His lane transitions proved beneficial. With about eight laps to go, Larson went from being a speck to a full frame picture. The NASCAR winner slid up off his line through turn two, making the back end step out and scrubbed off speed. That gave Scelzi the advantage through turns one and two. He darted underneath Larson down the backstretch and slid by him in turns three and four to officially take the lead with five laps to go. “I caught him in the rubber, and it looked like he was still searching, and I had the perfect opportunity to pull the trigger,” Scelzi said. “I figured he’d chop me, but he’s a very clean racer.” From there, Larson had nothing for the Fresno, Calif. native. Instead he had to fend off a hard charging Logan Schuchart, who came from seventh-place to third. “Second is always a good spot to be because you can see the leader struggling and make your move, which Gio did.” Larson said. “I made a mistake through that corner, I just go arched out too much and got the car bent and then I lost my right rear grip, which didn’t help for my exit speed.” While Schuchart was happy with his strong run, he left knowing it could have been better. He said he needs to get better at Qualifying up front more to put himself in position to start further up front and have a better shot at the win. His finish leaves him fifth in the Series’ points standings – 158 points behind leader Donny Schatz. The 10-time Series champion currently sits 28 points ahead of second-place Brad Sweet. The finish to the opening night of the inaugural United Rentals Patriot Nationals left many fans stunned, but it’s not the first time Scelzi has pulled off an astonishing feat. Last year, he became the youngest ever World of Outlaws winner, at 16 years old, by winning his first Series race at the historic Williams Grove Speedway. This time though, he had extra attention. NASCAR attention. In the grandstands, the likes of Bubba Wallace, Ryan Blaney and Jeff Gordon watched on. While on the track, he had to compete with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Larson. When the helmet goes on, Scelzi said he’s just focused on the race, but he hopes his run gained him a little more attention. “Man, I’d like to be over across the street at the NASCAR track,” Scelzi said. “But who knows. I’m having a ball racing Sprint Cars. I’m just happy being here. The crowd of thousands at the Charlotte dirt track knew the NASCAR names. When Larson was announced at the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash draw, the bleachers erupted into emphatic cheers. Scelzi was greeted with golf claps. When he pulled into Victory Lane ahead of Larson that changed. Standing atop the wing of his car, taller than Goliath, those emphatic cheers became his. Larson fell. Scelzi won. UP NEXT: The World of Outlaws will return to the The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway Saturday, May 25, for the final night of the United Rentals Patriot Nationals in Concord, NC.
