  3. Rick Rapp used to say that if you didn't scare yourself at least once a lap, you weren't going fast enough... And yes, the fast way around SAS was to diamond turn 3-4 and do whatever it took to get through 1-2. A lot of wrecks coming off two with so many different lines being used to navigate and exit that turn.
  4. Don, do you have any pics you'd like to share? I think I remember your car from Pan American Speedway days.... a brownish colored 57 Chevy maybe?
  5. Someone needs to take a trip out there and find out what's going on! This is a surprise to me for sure....
  6. We're all on the same page here... We all are hoping that when CC Speedway roars back to life, it will inspire a new generation of folks with with the same sense of adventure, respect for the past and hope for their future racing endeavors. Let's all do all we can to help make CC Speedway the best "bullring" in the country when it does re-open. Nick
  7. That's a pretty impressive list with some names on there that belong in any racing hall of fame... Nick
  8. Great stuff.... that's why the Texas Racing History section is here... sooner or later someone Googles a name from the past and we get some more stories when they find the site. Nick
  9. This pic showed up on the internet somewhere.... anyone know about it?
  10. Russ, There is only one short track asphalt oval in Texas that is currently in operation - Central Texas Speedway in Kyle, Texas. Of course, Texas Motor Speedway and the Circuit of the Americas are in operation as are a few road course venues including MSR Houston, Angelton, Texas, Texas World Speedway road course in College Station, Texas, Gransport Motorsports Park in Hitchcock, Texas (30 miles South of Houston) and Harris Hill Raceway in San Marcos, Texas. Nick
  11. has these photo's been removed many of them show like this would love to see them... and love all the stories here of the old timers racing ... I just found this site again... my late Grandpa raced and was killed in Dallas and we grandchildren have been searching for more photo's stories what ever we can find about him... his name was Cecil Elliott thanks for all the stories guys... Whoever posted the pic(s) originally, sinply put up a link to wherever those pics were posted somewhere out there on the internet. Since then, whoever posted them has either removed then from that site or that site has been closed or is not longer a free site. Whatever the reason, the link to those pics is no longer valid and we no longer have access to them. This is why I always recommend posting any pics directly to this site rather than posting a link to them somewhere else. Sorry about that, but it's out of my control. Nick
  12. That should be 1955, or so... I was 11 and was still living in the frozen tundra of Maine...Didn't get to San Antonio until 1967.
