  1. You may have seen this pic on another thread, but I think its appropriate here as well. Its a pic of Waldo Harper of Austin. His grandson handed me this pic at THR a couple of years ago. The back of the pic says Meyer Speedway, 1970.
  2. Being that I was just a kid back in those early 60's days, I only made it to Meyer on a couple of occasions. But on Friday nights at Speed-o-rama in Austin, Houston would come to us. Regulars with their super-modifieds in tow would be Billy Wade ('61 and '62), Buddy Rackley, Buddy Evans, Billy Griswold and Jimmy Willis. From San Antonio would come Buddy Jerkins, Johnny Doyle, Don Fowler and Buddy Yantis. Bill out of Temple of course. Out of Abileen/San Angelo would come Niedecken, the Johnsons, Robert Polk, Bubba Cowan and Marvin Fillip. Waldo and Bud Simpson out of Austin, and later Jimmy Finger. MAN, would those guys ever put on a show, every single week. It was awesome. At the time, I just never really realized how awesome those shows were!
  3. Bobby, it sure does. I remember that car very well, just not that exhaust configuration, coming out right beside his ear. Make you wonder if he was deaf in that ear before or after he ran it like that ...........
  4. Does anyone know? Is the 55 by chance the car that Buddy Evans drove?
  5. Thanks for the pics Mark. The Yeller 4 is Clyde Johnson. Tom, thanks for the info on the 9. I'd seen a photo of it at Pan AM but didn't know who was driving it.
  6. Hummmm ........................... Very Interesting! Can it be that the 16 car is the 2nd incarnation of the famous #2 Roadster/Super modified? I've downloaded the pic, resized and enhanced it. I'm also going to post the pic on that other thread. Here it is.............Thanks Chipmunk! ................
  7. RETrott, Check out the thread I just bumped to the top. It should now appear under this one.
  8. ................ 90 wt Brylcreme .................... "a little dab 'll do ya."
  9. Not sure Josh. Was in the pits at the time and we walked over to the fence and watched them.
  10. Man, those guys from Iron Rock in their carts really impressed me. Really enjoyed watching them. What, were they running around 50 mph or so, and most of the time you could have thrown a blanket over the whole lot of them. Saw a lot of good give and take among them. Real masters of car control they were. Ran the whole way inches from each other, with nary a bobble!
  11. TEXAS WORLD SPEEDWAY, Just outside of College Station Texas. More than you really wanted to know, huh?
  12. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this originally built as the sister track to Taladega? I think it was built about the same time. Problem was, at the time it was built, it was too far from ANY large metropolitan area, and they never could get the crowds to come there that they had hoped for.
