  1. Hi James. Thanks for the update on this. I genuinely appreciate it. With regard to Tavo, perhaps you misunderstood my mention of him. What you say about him above is absolutely correct. If you needed someone to get a big project like this up and running he'd be the first I'd think of to call on. That's why I mentioned him. Actually, I consider him a good friend of mine. Heck, I think I got his number here somewhere. Haven't talked with him lately.
  2. I think at this point all of us probably look at this with a certain amount of skepticism, but we can all hope can't we?
  3. Call Tavo Seriously, I just googled the story on Fox 29. Very interesting indeed ! Nick, where exactly in the SA area is this located?
  4. Haven't seen any update info on this thread in more than a month. Anybody on here have any info on what may or may not be happening with this? Perhaps a progress or non-progress report for those of us interested in this?
  5. ! ! ! ! Been hopin' & waitin' for a thread like this to show up ! ! ! ! Been so long since I've been to a race anywhere shoot I can't even remember how long. Hope this all works out. Oh, and by the way, the best racing I ever watched was at Speed-o-rama and Pan Am.
  6. OH WOW, Reb. Thanks for posting. Back then, we mostly went out to Oak Hill Downs, s/w of Austin. But once or twice a season Dad would take us down to PanAm in SA. That was always a really big deal for a little kid like me back then. I can still come up with a few names that raced our there then, like Don Fowler, Dick Caufield, Buddy Yantis and Buddy Jerkins to name a few. Of course, back then, there was no I-35. Somewhere out on the south end of Austin, South Congress Avenue simply transitioned into the "San Antone Highway."
  7. That's really cool Mark. The Lincoln was often over-looked by the hot-rod crowd, but there is really nothing better than a '39 Linc. coupe. Maybe you need to get with Hrodder on here. The last time I was at his shop, he had an unrestored '39 sitting outside his shop. I'm reminded of when I was a kid. Dad brought home a '58 Linc. Continental that became the family car. While everyone was messing around with trying to hot-rod the 292 and 312 Y-blocks, out Linc. came with a 430 cu in Y-block, heavy duty truck motor. They'd increased the compression ratio to make the car more responsive. Had to run it on ethyl. I don't know the hp rating, but that thing, as big and long and heavy as it was, would get up and GO!
  8. Randy, and others on here ................. there is scheduled to be a show including many of these same vintage cars along with some others, including ON-TRACK demo runs (not at race speed) of some vintage indy cars at TWS in November. Keep an eye on this forum for later announcements as the date draws closer.
  9. The industrialization of the USA----------->mass production of automobiles--------------->lots of old horse racing tracks around ----------->a few adventurous souls ................... but all that is very general, not specific just to the Texas region.
  10. WOW!, ................. This thread alone has over 100,000 hits on it. That is amazing.
  11. I still remember, and always will ...................... some of the best racing I've EVER seen .................... was the night several years ago when J.C and Brandon put on a great racing exhibition for the lead for about 10 laps, after a restart in a super-late race. THAT was some thrilling racing to witness!
  12. Nor do I Rocketdog! But, what a fun thread this is! Cool stuff.
  13. 79W, If you can find or figure out how to get hold of Jimmy Finger he might be able to help you. On the web there is this site ........ go to www.motorsportmemorial.org at the bottom of the page in the box, type in "wusterhausen" and click "submit".
  14. Jakdad, Good eye on the "Marauder" fender badges. I can't explain the timing difference, but they sure look like the same as those on a '64 Mercury Marauder.
  15. Thanks Rodlea. Found it. Those are some great old pics in that collection of old mod's and Supers. Thanks Tom. There are also some good pics of the #106 car also. Click on Txtom's link down at his signature for Racing Pics.
  16. You bet, Junior. I remember that track. Seems like it only ran a year or two. It was out in that big field by T.N. Porter, Jr. High School. I went to school there 7th through 9th grades. (I can't believe they changed the name of it and named it after that idiot ........... err .............. I mean nice lady.) At the time the school wasn't built yet. That was off the intersection of Fredericksburg Road and Alred Lane (long before there was a Ben White Blvd). The Brodies owned that big ol' red brick house that sat up on the hill over-looking the Barton Creek valley, where Toys-R-Us now sits. Great memories.
  17. WoW! Just looking at those two photos. Amazing how you two have hardly changed at bit!
  18. I'd like to know that too Papa. This was way back before I could remember it, but my dad told me Don had once won a feature out at the old Oak Hill Downs Track in Dad's old modified.
  19. Papa, That's a damn good question I don't know the answer to to this very day. All I really know about is what happened at Speed-o-rama. Along about '65 or so, they quit the supers and started running the supposedly "more popular" stock cars of the day. The result? They instantly cut their full house crowds down by about 40%. Then over the years crowds dwindled even further along with dwindling stock car counts. I asked the question any number of times but never got a straight answer. It just never made sense to me.
  20. Don't worry, we'll get Chrissie's pics cleaned up. Thanks for posting!
  21. Retrott, It looks like the cage has brackets for a wing, but I simply don't know the answer regarding the question on the particular night this pic was taken. Cutting Edge Racing, I can remember one car in particular that ran no headers at all. The exhaust just exited the side of the heads. It didn't seem to slow the car down any though.
