NASCAR bans Confederate flag at NASCAR events
BeachBum replied to NickHolt's topic in Texas Auto Racing
I have an opinion. It's about time! Racist flags should not be flying anywhere in America. -
Now that right there folks ... is a genuine rat rod! Might even have a rope around his waist? No wonder they call us crazy... (((LOL)))

Very cool idea. Well done COTA!

Many moons ago ... I introduced a partnership program called SOS. It stood for "Support Our Staff". I got local gas stations, super markets, department stores, movie theaters, etc... to provide gift certificates for my speedway staff's day-to-day needs. It was a win-win for everyone. All the participating sponsors were listed on a special sign as fans came thru the gates and my announcer plugged the hell out of them throughout every race. Perhaps you could use a similar platform to promote SOAR. Support Our Auto Racers. Sponsors absolutely love being hero's!!! Good luck Gina!

Recently, I went for a bike ride at the beach. When I arrived, a PA cop was asking some "tour-ons" lounging in chairs to not gather until the restrictions are lifted. Right now, only folks who are exercising are allowed on the sand. I pulled over to see how the interaction unfolds. As happens here all too often, the tour-ons defiantly defended their right to hang out. After a few minutes, they threw fits (((like children))) and loaded up. As the officer drove away, I flagged him down to ask him how he was holding up? All he could say is “I’m sooo sick of telling people they can’t stay & play right now”. He looked totally spent. I’m sure his fellow PA com-padres feel the same way. My opinion: if we all lead the way (((like responsible adults))) this will end much quicker! Support our police officers, support our Mayor. I agree, enjoyed it more then I figured I would. The fellas displayed great car control & strategy throughout the race. Then I realized what it could do for NASCAR? Kids/adults are addicted to video screens. Kids/adults love to prove their stuff. This is a perfectly safe platform for everyone to hone their skills and strut their stuff. I remember back in 1979 when the east coast was stuck indoors because of a huge snow storm. Had nothing else to do but watch some redneck race called the Daytona 500. That opportunity to perform in front of a captive audience ... put NASCAR on the national map! Maybe lightning can strike twice with this iRacing platform ... and we can make some new lemonade out of this virus nightmare? I wonder how much it cost to get involved?? Maybe I'll dust off my old racing gear and get back behind the wheel??? Cause, the older I get ... the faster I was!!!

iRacing pro invitational series #2 @ Texas starts now! It ain't real racing - but it's live motorsport exposure on network TV. Kudos to NASCAR!

I-37 Speedway to race this Saturday, March 28th
BeachBum replied to NickHolt's topic in I-37 Speedway
An interesting idea for a short-track to attempt these days. It keeps fans enthused (online) and the racers energized (on-track). Just not sure mass gatherings (pits/staff/etc) for any reason ... is the prudent thing to do until we turn this virus tide in a positive direction? But a creative concept, glad it's not my call... -
I think it would be helpful to post all these rapidly evolving updates in one place. It'll make it easier for all of us to watch our own back yards ... and stay up to speed on our surrounding areas. Here's the latest from Port A / USA (posted: 3/25 @ 8pm) Nueces County has issued a “stay at home” order for residents of the county and the City of Port Aransas has mandated additional restrictions. The stay at home order begins at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, March 26, and ends at 11:59 pm. Wednesday, April 8. Additional details of the county’s order can be found in a related story on the South Jetty Newspaper website. The City of Port Aransas has added several more restrictions in a Mayoral Declaration of Local State of Disaster Due to Public Health Emergency, including: • No RVs may move into any RV park within the city. Those that exit may not return.• Day or night camping on the beach using a tent or vehicle, enclosed or not enclosed is prohibited.• Short-term rentals are prohibited except for persons conducting essential business.• Movement exercise, such as walking, running, biking, yoga, water sports or other similar physical exercise on the beach is allowed. Otherwise, no person shall be allowed on the beach. The restrictions are effective at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, March 26, and will expire at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, April 2. The mayor may issue other restrictions for periods of seven days or less.

It's already here in Nueces County. CC just closed the Zahn and Newport Pass beach entrances. Sandfest in Port A is postponed until October 2-4. Are the local dirt tracks still planing to open as scheduled?

I live in Port A and I can tell you all if this much. If this nightmare takes over Texas, it's sprouting strong wings at 2020 spring break. Our town is packed with folks (young & old) from everywhere. These days, when I go down to the beach, it's packed and I stay far away from everyone. I don't engage in any close conversations, period. However every business in this town is open and these folks seem completely unaware (or don't care) about the impending doom that may await them ... and eventually the rest of us. Sorry for the negative news, but it is, what it is...

Yes, I've been wondering the same thing? Sure glad I'm a "retired" racetrack promoter this season. Difficult decisions will need to be made...
