  1. They had a big truck full of ice right by the concession area just south of Torchys tacos.   We texted the pump out guy and he was usually there within an hour.   Plenty of ice in there

  2. TMS was a weekend destination for a bunch of drunks for a long time.  Now that there are shorter weekend races, the drunks stay home and watch it in their garage.  But thats ok, Nascar caters to the money crowd, the TV networks.  But, I am not sure Texas deserves a race track, we cant even afford new tires here.  So we are accustomed to driving to Florida, Alabama and Georgia to watch racing.  COTA is awesome and money flows like candy there man.   That is why Nascar races there now

  3. The vibe was awesome at the Clash man.  That is like the Old Bristol without the Redneck Music.  Nascar is expanding the audience base.  You gotta love them stepping outside of the box man.  They are taking care of the TV fans man, this is great stuff to watch.  Their money is coming from the Networks and they are collaborating with them in doing these exhibitions.  It is an investment into the future

  4. You pretty much hit it on the head Josh.   As much as I hate to say it, that racer at Kyle pretty much ruined it for asphalt racing in Texas and I dont blame the track owners.   Heck, Texas dont even support TMS.  So get used to traveling if you want to see it in person.  But I would just assume watch it on TV and Racing America is cheap.   I wish Race on Texas would get right on their prices

  5. HMS is the perfect spot for it here in Texas.  Large Corp base to pull sponsorship from.  The Oil guys have money to burn right now.    If they would bring late model racing there, people would pay attention.    I doubt with the current lineup they will get the attention needed to attract Corp sponsorship like was there before when they had a great class of Late Models.

  6. June Bug, Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick and Justin Marks bought the CARS tour.   Things are looking good in Late Model Asphalt racing.  They are not requiring used Junk $30 tires.  You can buy brand new Hoosiers and let the Show begin

Radio still very powerful most stations have apps for listeners to check in on, the sports station in Austin I work for has massive numbers from our station app.

Unfortunately, the radio market is aging and rapidly shrinking as digital social media takes over.

Cub Scouts do Pinewood Derbies - Cub Scouts are younger Scouts, before they are old enough to become Boy Scouts.  In my experience, most Cub Scout "packs" do a Derby at least annually.   I'm sure every Boy Scout council has a website with a "unit locator" page on it (google "boy scout council" and the name of the nearest, biggest city/town) - if you search the unit locator page for Cub Scout packs, you should find contact info for packs near you.

I was about six years old when I saw my first race car up close - a family up the street and their brother and cousin ran a car in the top class at the old Pan American Speedway in San Antonio, and my brother (about age 14 or 15) was on the crew.  I would walk up the street with him and watch them work on the car, and pretty soon I had to go see what racing was!

As a former Pine Wood Derby race leader, I will say that the time before the Derby starts can be hectic, with kids getting their cars checked and maybe having to modify them a bit (or more) to fit the rules (especially regarding weight!) - but once a kid has his car through inspection, I think it would be great to have real race cars to look at!

Re. 24nomo ticket-giveaway idea - give some to radio stations (for contest winnings?), or give them to local businesses that advertise on the stations and have the stations announce that tickets can be picked up at the business (or announce it as part of a commercial).  When I was in Montgomery, AL, the asphalt track there used to do that.

Does anyone have a Radio anymore?   LOL

  9. The best way to get outsiders involved is to give away about 200 to 300 tickets per race to people that have never been.   It is important not to give them away to people who have been, or are already paying customers.    Pick different groups, like the Chamber of Commerce, High School Bands, Little League Teams, etc.  People who will come as a group.  You will get some hooked on it.

  10. yes, there are lots of other things to do that are way more fun than hanging out in junkyards to support your hobby.  I would rather be like that guy that is the arrive and drive type.  Give them their $120,000 grand and show up with a clean crisp driving suit, clean fingernails and hot chicks and lets go racing boys

  11. After making the rounds at the Snowball derby, found out about 95% of these SLM guys do not build their own cars any more.  Most of them buy them Turnkey from Hamke, Fury or Port City for $120,000 on up.   Not many normal guys racing there.  But that is where the action is at.  People were spending money hand over fist on everything there.  Price was no object.   Hotels were about $300 day, Rental Cars $200, food was over the top and well, you know the boooze was high, and lots of it

Cotton Bowl sent out an email today that said since the WOO canceled the early West Coast swing that they normally ran early in the year, it cost a few tracks to lose dates this year. But sounded hopeful to get it back for 2024.

All that it takes is money and Texas isnt spending money on racing.

I not only go to the races, but I spend a considerable amount of money doing so. It is important to excel at the basics on race weekend. TMS fails in that aspect. Its great to hear that they have other revenue streams. I go there for the fall race weekend. Getting the tanks pumped in your motorhome should be easy, its not. Buying a bag of ice on the grounds when it is a 100 degrees for 4 days should be easy, its not.

I understand its not 1997 anymore, but when you have been doing something since 1997, you should have the basics sorted out. TMS does not. The opener at HMP for the new series ran out of a lot of stuff at the concessions stand, you expect that, they will figure it out and get it sorted out. There is no defending TMS these days for me. Its not called the Texas Convention Center, it is Texas Motor Speedway.

I have been going for years.  Camping is an option and I enjoy the roughing it part of getting ice, getting the tanks pumped etc.  I do not expect TMS to do the work.   I have never had a problem getting ice, I mean there is a Buccees right there now.   LOL  If I have to pull up and go pump my own tank out, so be it.  That is part of the experience.  [edited out by Nick Holt, 12/12/2022]

I think one of NASCAR and Motorsports biggest problems is instead of people going to the track, now the internet allows them to just watch from afar and not actually go.

I am not sure that is a problem, that is another way they monetize.   Sure fans help, but they dont really need them.  The show is made for TV.     It would not surprise me if they get their own network and take advantage of the revenue from streaming.  There are some pretty cool ways to watch it now
