Brandon50
make sure you are getting plenty of fuel into the motor, dry rotted fuel lines could cause ventilation problems. also check and make sure you are getting plenty of spark out of the plugs and plenty of power to the distributor. We are also experiencing the same problems right now with our truck
1-Crew
This engine makes max power at ~5200 RPM, if you are exiting the corner anywhere close to 5000 you are just running out of motor. An unfortunate limitation since you are limited on gear choices..

JamesHigdon
If the motor is still fuel injected you can diagnose it like you would a street car. Scan it with a diagnostic computer to see if it has any codes; if it doesn't go down the line of diagnostic procedures. Check fuel PSI, check volts getting to the coil, check cam vs crank timing, check spark vs crank timing, check exhaust back pressure, check compression, etc.. If you need anything I can send you alldata diagnostic procedures for that motor and fuel injection system along with how to check codes, base timing procedures, etc.. The 2.2l isn't an inherently bad motor, probably just a service issue.

neon14
If that motor has a timing belt I would check it. Make sure it isn't off a tooth.
