I-37 Speedway Modified results 1/31/04

Recommended Posts

Twenty-four of the 26 cars started the 20 lap IMCA Modified A-main, with Danny Brown and Shannon Parsons on the front row. It didn’t take long for the action to heat up as the first several laps were not real pretty, with numerous spins, breaks and overall mayhem. After two attempts at a start, they finally got one lap in with Parsons in the lead, Henry Witt moving up to fourth and Lawrence Mikulencak up to sixth before yellows flew again.

Mikulencak spun on the next restart and collected Chase Glick, putting Mikulencak out of the race. Back to green, with Parsons out front and Witt making his way to second, while Tanner Whitmire and Chris Glick moved up to third and fourth until another yellow slowed the pace when Brown spun. On the next restart Parsons and Witt were wheel to wheel for the lead only to have caution fly again for Ch. Glick who broke and rolled to a stop.

Witt, showing a little smoke, got around Parsons as green flashed again only to get one more lap in until Greg Dinsmore slapped the wall on the front stretch. A whole lot of action for only three laps in the book! Back to racing with Witt trailing smoke badly from a broken rear suspension, and Whitmire and Parsons swapping second, allowing GW Egbert to close in, while Elias Anderson moved up to fifth.

Whitmire secured second on lap 5 followed through by GW Egbert and Witt was black-flagged as the smoke continued to billow off the left rear tire. GW Egbert got the lead as Witt rolled to stop to bring out a lap 6 caution. GW Egbert slipped on the restart, giving Whitmire a peek inside on the restart. GW Egbert hung on forcing Whitmire to try the high side. Parsons hope for a top five finish ended when he spun on lap 9.

On the restart Trevor Egbert spun and got punched by Ray Doyon who had no where to go. Finally the race reached the mid-point with GW Egbert, Whitmire, Anderson, Chr. Glick and Gary Chambless in the top five spots. Whitmire still trying the high line was able get the lead coming out of turn 2 on lap 11. Doyon brought out the final yellow as he looped his ride.

Whitmire started to inch away as the race went back to green, while Anderson and Chr. Glick battled it out for third. With five to go, the top five had spaced themselves out as the race calmed down. Chr. Glick was reeled in by Chambless on lap 18, with Chambless getting the spot on the last lap.

Meanwhile the young Whitmire, a former IKF National Champion who turned 18 just a couple days ago, was taking his first ever modified checkered flag, putting the Whitmire Farms/The Total Look/Beckers Ag./South Texas Implement/Sea Breeze RV Park/Dirt Works Chassis, powered by a Jerry Edwards motor, in the winners circle. Quite a birthday present to himself!

I saw the 8g car coming down my street this morning.

I had to come back and see where he finished. Cause it looked like the car was still in good shape. LOL

19th, not to good. Maybe next time he can fine tune it and will finish up front.

I think the dirt cars are a blast to watch. On dirt and asphalt. I have to say that on dirt they are more exciting, seeing how they go on 3 wheels and still manage to keep control of the thing.
