10th Southern Challenge at Abilene Speedway Oct. 14-16

ABILENE, Texas (Oct. 6) ­ Abilene Speedway celebrates a special

anniversary event Friday-Sunday, Oct. 14-16, with the 10th annual running

of the Southern Challenge.

IMCA Sunoco Modifieds and Stock Cars, and the IMCA Hobby Stocks return

to the program, which also features Jeff¹s Performance Southern SportMods

for the first time.

Total purse is $70,000. Sunday¹s Modified winner earns $3,000, with a

minimum of $650 paid to start the main event. The winner also joins the list

of candidates for the Lucas Oil All-Star Invitational to be held at the 2006

IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals. Starting a ³B² feature pays $400,

with $125 to last-chance qualifiers and $100 to non-qualifiers.

First place in the Stock Car feature pays $2,000, with $400 to start.

³B² main starters pocket $200.

Both the Southern SportMod and Hobby Stock features pay $1,000 to win,

with a minimum of $250 to start the main and $150 to start a ³B² in the

Southern SportMods. Starting the Hobby feature pays at least $150, while

starting the ³B² is worth a minimum of $100. Non-qualifiers in each class

get $75.

Drivers can only compete in one division. Feature races for all four

divisions will be 30 laps.

A practice session will be held from 6-10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, with

complimentary beverages and barbecue, and plenty of music, at the party to

follow.

The Southern Challenge is spon-sored by Smiley¹s Racing Products and

Jeff¹s Performance Automotive.
