BobHarr
Hello, My name is Bob Harr. I am trying to locate an old friend that used to run midgets with us. He was originally from Denver and moved to Houston in the late '90's I believe. His name is Jeff Jackson. He has an old Schleiger midget with a VW that he is restoring. Number 35 as I recall. If anyone on this board knows Jeff, please forward my contact to him and have him reach out to me. Another possible contact would be Dave Watkins. He was a friend of Jeff's that also ran midgets. I would really like to catch up with either of these folks. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. rebelracewriter
Bob, It's been some time since they raced true Midgets in Texas. The last area group I recall was NAMAR and I don't recall that name, but I've slept a time or two since then. The only other I remember was a USAC event once in a while, mostly in north Texas. There's still a couple guys that run the Chili Bowl, too, Good luck in your search.
BobHarr
Thank you for your reply, Rebel. Maybe you recall the MMOA, Mighty Midgets of Arizona, RMMRA, Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association and the MARA, Missouri Auto Racing Association used to come through Texas annually. We ran places like Amarillo, Wichita Falls, El Paso, Waco, Dallas, Carrolton, and Houston. This is in the late '80's, early '90's. It was a long haul from Denver to Big H Speedway. Ron Hughes and Ron Jr. were part of our racing family. I remember the Burke's, Ronnie and Donnie, Elton Porter and many others. In the late '90's there was a club formed out of Tulsa, SWIMS, South West Independent Midget Series run by John Stewart. They ran shows in Texas as well split with the RMMRA. John Stewarts club borrowed its name from a Series that Mitch Miller, the guy who started the Belleville Midget Nationals, ran in the early '80's also known as SWIMS. One of the first non-affiliated series that ran 8-12 races in a two-week period after all other clubs had finished for the year drawing names like Johnny Parsons Jr., Rich Vogler and Ken Schrader. We actually ran quite a bit in Texas. Thanks again for playing along.
