Thank you for your reply, Rebel. Maybe you recall the MMOA, Mighty Midgets of Arizona, RMMRA, Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association and the MARA, Missouri Auto Racing Association used to come through Texas annually. We ran places like Amarillo, Wichita Falls, El Paso, Waco, Dallas, Carrolton, and Houston. This is in the late '80's, early '90's. It was a long haul from Denver to Big H Speedway. Ron Hughes and Ron Jr. were part of our racing family. I remember the Burke's, Ronnie and Donnie, Elton Porter and many others. In the late '90's there was a club formed out of Tulsa, SWIMS, South West Independent Midget Series run by John Stewart. They ran shows in Texas as well split with the RMMRA.
John Stewarts club borrowed its name from a Series that Mitch Miller, the guy who started the Belleville Midget Nationals, ran in the early '80's also known as SWIMS. One of the first non-affiliated series that ran 8-12 races in a two-week period after all other clubs had finished for the year drawing names like Johnny Parsons Jr., Rich Vogler and Ken Schrader. We actually ran quite a bit in Texas.
Thanks again for playing along.
