Texas Super Racing Series @ Thunder Hill Raceway 5-30-03

By J M Hallas

Local driver continues on comeback trail.

Kyle Tx., Tommy Gural from Elgin took the popular win, leading flag to

flag in the 100 lap, double points, TSRS race Saturday night. Brad Hudak

piloted the Southeast Customs/DC Eagle Paint and Body/ Monte Carlo to fast

time of the 19 cars on hand, turning the 3/8th mile D-shaped track with a

15.483. Hudak's luck then took a turn for the worst as he rolled a 7 for the

invert, putting Brian Schild and Gural on the front row.

Gural, on the high side was able to power his way into the lead on lap 1,

with Todd McLemore getting hung out to dry on top, falling back to seventh.

As the top two of Gural and Schild started to inch away, Beau Bukowski took

a trip through the infield, then finally spun on lap 13.

This cost Gural a comfortable lead, and bunched the field that was separated

by Bukowski's trip across the grass. On the restart, McLemore blew the rear

end sending the field scattering and spinning in the fluid. Steve Sims,

Leland Waddell, David Snokhous and Michael Jones all spun, while Ryan

Englehardt, in a borrowed car, T-boned the disabled car of McLemore.

Shortly after the restart, Hudak got loose coming out of two causing the

field to stack, with Bobby New getting spun in the chain reaction. Once back

to green, Gural and Schild were again pulling away from the pack. Lap 41 saw

Hudak's troubles continue as he slid off turn 1 into the tire barrier with a

stuck throttle, forcing him to pit and lose several laps.

As the crossed flags were shown it was Gural, Schild, Ronnie New, Mike Yale

and Jeff Pollard rounding out the top five. Englehardt would stall on track

to bring out the yellow on lap 56. Before the race could get restarted, the

field checked up, with Allen Alexander spinning. Back under green with Gural

still holding the point, while Lloyd Alexander and Waddell swapped a little

paint as L. Alexander tried to get under Waddell.

Robert Stewart took a trip across the infield after contact to bring out

another caution on lap 69. Just before the green flag was about to fly, A.

Alexander stopped on track to keep the field under caution. The race went

back to green with 20 laps to go, and Gural eking out a slight advantage

over 2nd-5th who were running nose to tail.

Gural kept building his lead and with 10 to go had a nice eight car

advantage over Schild. At the same time B. New expired the motor to set up a

10 lap shootout to the checkers. On the restart Schild slipped in the still

slick area and fell back. Schild tried to find a spot low, but got into

Pollard sending him spinning to the infield in turn 4, while A. Alexander

was spinning in turn 1. Officials determined it was a track related caution,

with everyone getting their positions back

As the green came back out, Gural inched ahead of Schild as the top six

all hung together, single file. With 5 to go Gural had three cars on Schild,

with the only battle being between Sims and Snokhous for 8th. Gural's last

obstacle was a lap car which he easily got by to put his TORCO Racing

Oils/Austin Mobile Marine/Steve Chapman Motors/Gural Chassis into victory

lane.

This was a big win for Gural who is coming back from serious injuries

suffered in a 2001-2002 off season motorcycle accident, that put him out

racing for eight months. Gural the 2001 Thunder Hill Raceway Limited Late

Model track champion, scored his first TSRS win putting his past THR and 17

years of racing experience to good use. Despite being shelved with his

injuries, five surgeries and rehab, he had his own therapy working on the

car and motor. The motor he used to win was built while he was still in a

wheelchair, using a chain hoist to install the crankshaft, because it was

too heavy for him to lift. Tommy and his wife Teresa, who also races, have

been a popular husband/wife racing team in the Austin area for some time.

Marc,

Sorry for the redundancy, but I do try to honor the work of the people who put the results together for us by publishing it pretty much intact. And sometimes, not in this case though, there is information included in one set of results that is not included in the other.

I guess you didn't have to read both results though.. LOL.

I know but knowing myself I would have just ran with the story since you already had the results posted above thats all. I understand though about giving full email since Jay wrote it but I dont thing he would have minded if you posted the story BTW when is Jason going to get the front page done so these stories come alive with pictures lol.....

Marc,

Yeah, I hate shorting Reb. He does all this work for us for free, so I figure if he took the time to write it, I'm gonna take the space to print it. But at least he gets a lot more than 4 minutes here on TSZ.. LOL..

Regarding the front page of TSZ, I have no idea when it will be completed. Why not ask Jason since he's the man that puts this whole thing together? You can't believe all the work that takes place behind the scenes to keep this site up and running. To my way to thinking we all owe Jason a HUGE thank you!

LOL Thanx guys, but actually if you look under Stone Trailer 100(Title name), the story was put up the night it was run. I just didn't have the complete results w/ lap counts, etc. Once I got that, I sent the whole thing to Mary Ann, who put it out as a TSRS Press Release. Hence the redundancy. LOL

My question is, did it make the Austin or SA papers? I sent it in to both of them. I was too busy Monday and forgot to get the SA paper and it's hard to find an Austin paper in BFT.

I do appreciate ALL the press space though.

I also got alot more than four minutes on my last visit w/ Chuck and Ric. It's a ton of fun to do the show live w/them, but it's tough to get word in edge-wise sometimes. LOL

Nick and Jason,

In light of the results sometimes being posted twice or more, maybe you could come up with something to help deal with it--

"The Department of Redundancy Department"

Trying to help as always,

Tom

Let it be known to those reading this, and known to even those who are not reading this, that Marc Roy, AKA SASpeedRacer24, has been appointed Chairman of the Department of Redundancy Department Chairman, and, further, let it also be known that Tom Taylor, AKA txtom, has been appointed Vice-Chairman of the Department of Redundancy Department Vice-Chairman, who, between them but not entirely independently, shall forevermore, henceforth and in the future be in charge of whatever redundancies and double-postings, including, but not limited to, redundancies and double-postings that may be apparent to those reading, or not reading, as the case may be, the apparent redundancies and double-postings that either the Chairman or Vice Chairman, whose duties shall be divided between Non-Vice- and Vice-levels of redundancies and double-postings, but not just limited to those instances of redundancies and double-postings that are readily apparent to those reading this and even those who are not reading this, in the future, henceforth and forevermore.

Signed and with my handwritten signature, electronically and otherwise impregnated upon this page, either hard-copy format or in digital format, attested to by my personal or electronic signature this 3rd Day of June, otherwise known to those reading this, or not reading this as the case may be, as the 3rd day of the month following May, 2003.

So there, put that in your pipe and smoke it, learn to live with it and take it with a grain of salt, or pepper, whichever you prefer. But be careful when you smoke it electronically because smoking has been found to be harmful to your health, especially if ingested over long periods of time like it took you to wade through all this pile of horse manure, or cow manure, or sheep manure depending on your point of view.

Hey 4-Minute Media Man.....

It was great having you in-studio with us...and yes,you did get more than your 4-minute allotment! ;)

Thanks for the kudos.....and what'd you expect? We have an hour to get in all-and-everything, you take up 10 minutes...Ric and I DO need to talk a little bit, you know? :P LOL (By the way, you promised to bring some of your Hooters' chicks into the studio, where were they?)

BTW...Congrats to TSZ.com, which now has a redundancy department. I can't think of 2 finer "redundancy marshalls" than Marc and TxTom :D

Late!

Nick,

I must say I am impressed by your post above; I haven't seen writing like that since the last time I read anything put out by a lawyer or Government Official.

Because of your command and knowledge of legal double-talk; and based on your own reference to the animal waste of personal preference, I move that you be appointed "The Official Texasspeedzone Outhouse Lawyer."

(The word "Outhouse" may be substituted at one's own discretion.)

Anyone out there feel free to second this motion!

I really like the ring of it -- "The Official Texas Speed Zone Outhouse Lawyer."

It is rewarding to finally be recognized for my highly developed ability to distinguish amongst the various types of manure. The honor has to rank right up there with the time I fell into the algae-filled goldfish pond at the Sunken Gardens with a cast on my right arm.

I think I'll get some cards printed up.

I bet that fall in the pond was a fun exprience depending on how many beers you drank before the swim. Just curious is there a bottom to that thing cause you sure cant see it from above ground.... I 2nd the motion to make it a redundant official motion.......BTW Nick how long did it take you totype the above redundant post that created my office of redundancy....
