Fifth Annual Modified Stampede Saturday at DCRP!

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 2, 2017) – With the past weekend’s snow melted away, Dodge City Raceway Park fires back to life this Saturday night with the Fifth Annual Modified Stampede.

While the IMCA Modifieds battle it out for a $1,200 winner’s share, championship chase action continues as well for the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Racing action goes green at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are just $15 for adults with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. A pair of bicycles will also be awarded to two fortunate children.

Woodward, Oklahoma’s Cole Traugott reigns as the defending Modified Stampede winner. Traugott won the April 15 season opener to extend his run of DCRP domination to seven wins in his last seven outings atop the 3/8-mile clay oval.

Traugott battled past defending IMCA Modified track champion Nick Link in the latter stages of last year’s Modified Stampede to add his name to the list of event winners that includes David Murray (2015 and both nights of the 2013 Stampede) and Brendon Gemmill (2014).

Thirty-two competitors took part in the IMCA Modified portion of the April 15 season opener that included 98 total entries.

Along with Traugott, others getting off to a fast start at DCRP include Ty Williams (Arcadia, OK), Jeff Kaup (Woodward, OK), Angel Munoz (Lamar, CO) and Matt O’Hair (Laverne, OK).

Williams made a last-corner pass of defending Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car champion Taylor Velasquez for opening night honors while three-time DCRP track champion Kaup battled past Brian Davidson on the high side to snare the IMCA Sport Modified win.

Munoz let it be known that he is set to battle it out with two-time and defending track champ Michael Pepper for IMCA Stock Car championship honors while O’Hair kicked off his IMCA Hobby Stock title defense with a drive to victory lane.

While the Fifth Annual Modified Stampede offers up a $1,200 winner’s share with $150 to start the feature, the entire feature payout is as follows: 1st - $1,200, 2nd - $800, 3rd - $600, 4th - $550, 5th - $500, 6th - $450, 7th - $400, 8th - $350, 9th - $300, 10th - $275, 11th - $250, 12th - $225, 13th - $200, 14th - $175, 15th - $150, 16th - $150, 17th - $150, 18th - $150, 19th - $150, 20th - $150.
