I-30 Speedway Set for Second Annual Wingless STN This Weekend! Lonnie Wheatley, LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 2, 2022) – Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway’s kicks off the 2022 season in style with this weekend’s Second Annual Wingless Short Track Nationals presented by KNP Painting atop the high-banked ¼-mile clay oval. The event sanctioned by the ASCS Elite Non-Wing Sprint Car Series takes place on Friday and Saturday. After Friday night’s $1,000-to-win preliminary event, the Saturday night championship finale offers up $5,000-to-win and $500-to-start. Driver entry forms are available at https://i-30speedway.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/I-30-Wingless-STN-2022-Entry-Form.pdf. The entry fee is $100, with those submitted previous to the March 1 deadline including a driver pit pass for both nights. A pair of past wingless Sprint Car champions are among those expected for the weekend including defending USAC Midwest Wingless Racing Association champion Kory Schudy of Battlefield, MO. Schudy makes his first Wingless STN appearance after picking off seven overall feature wins last year including three en route to the USAC Midwest crown. Another past champion expected is Warsaw, Missouri’s Riley Kreisel. A three-time POWRi WAR (Wingless Auto Racing) champion, Kreisel finished third in WAR points last year after collecting consecutive titles in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Among a number of others expected are Derek Hagar, Paul White, Anthony Nicholson and top ASCS Elite Non-Wing contenders Paul White, Mason Smith (last year’s top finishing rookie in series points), Caden McCreary, Chase Parson and Cody Price among others. The Inaugural Wingless Short Track Nationals set the bar high with reigning ASCS Elite Non-Wing champion Justin Zimmerman of Athens, TX, edging I-30 Speedway ace Cody Gardner in a photo finish prelim feature before Fort Worth’s Keith Martin took command midway through the 30-lap finale to take the Inaugural event hardware back to the Lone Star state. This year will offer up more of the same “traditional” Sprint Car action with the ASCS Elite Non-Wing Sprint Car series that competes under an open engine package. Last year’s preliminary included a podium with a 410-ci engine, a 360-ci powerplant as well as a 305-ci contender. General admission to the event is just $10 on Friday night and $20 on Saturday night. Factory Stocks will be in action both nights as well. Pit passes are $30 each night. Top 14 in passing/finishing points transfer directly to “A” Main with top six inverted. Balance go to “B” Main(s) as needed. If one “B” Main then six transfer. Reutzel Seeks to Secure Another All Star Title this Weekend by Lonnie Wheatley CLUTE, Texas (October 9, 2020) – Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team finish off a third consecutive season with the All Star Circuit of Champions at this weekend’s Jim and Joanne Ford Classic at Ohio’s Fremont Speedway. And the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X Sprint Car team also hope to put the finishing touches on a third consecutive series championship. After capturing the series title over each of the past two seasons, Reutzel and the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment team take a 74-point lead into the weekend that includes events on both Friday and Saturday. Simply finishing an average of 18th or better each night will secure a third consecutive series crown for the team. “We just have to race our race on both nights and take care of business,” Reutzel says going into the weekend. “Ideally, we could finish it off with another win or two.” Ten of Reutzel’s 14 overall wins in 2020 have occurred in All Star Circuit of Champions competition, including a July 5 Ohio Sprint Speedweek triumph at Fremont Speedway after posting a runner-up finish atop the Ohio dirt oval the previous night. Reutzel enters the weekend after taking on the World of Outlaws last weekend at Williams Grove Speedway’s “National Open” where he posted a strong fourth-place finish in Friday’s preliminary and was on the move from 16th in Saturday’s $75,000-to-win main event until debris forced a helmet change and then later mechanical issues cut the run short. Hagar Wins Again in Short Track Nationals Prelim at Hammer Hill by Lonnie Wheatley LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (October 2, 2020) –For the second year in a row, Marion, AR, native Derek Hagar kicked off I-30 Speedway’s Short Track Nationals by wiring the field in Friday night’s 25-lap Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour preliminary feature atop the high-banked, ¼-mile clay oval. Courtesy of Lonnie Wheatley Earning the pole position for the nightcap, Hagar kept his Southern Collision Centre/B&D Towing & Recovery No. 9jr ahead of the carnage that eliminated half of the 20-car feature field to open up the 33rd Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires. Hagar beat Pennsylvania’s Mark Smith to the line with Canadian Dylan Westbrook rallying from 19th to fill out the podium in third as a field of 78 cars hit the track for STN preliminary action. “I knew those guys behind me would be coming,” Hagar said afterward. “This isn’t out kind of track, this thing was cowboy up. I found a good line in three and four, I felt like the top was going away and it was just way too far around up there.” Smith made a brief bid on a restart with ten laps to go but was unable to maintain pace, settling for runner-up honors in the No. m1 Mach 1 chassis. “We tried something a little different tonight than we did the last time we were here and just ended up with a little too much gear and just kind of lost momentum,” Smith commented afterward. After starting 19th, Westbrook cracked the top five by the 15th lap then cashed in on second-runner Scott Bogucki’s misfortune and then battled past Howard Moore for third on the 17th round to keep the position the rest of the way. “The night didn’t start out too good, but we kept on pushing for it and turned out real good for us,” Westbrook explained after the show finish in the Hills Racing No. 47x. Moore edged Jordan Mallett at the line by inches for fourth with Garet Williamson, Matt Covington, 20th-starter Ayrton Gennetten, Brad Bowden, Charlie Louden and Devon Borden the cars remaining as the checkered flag flew. The feature included two cautions and four red flag stoppages as follows: Initial Start – The red flag flies right away when fourth-starter Marshall Skinner jumps a Bogucki tire entering turn one and flips hard, collecting I-30 Speedway track champion Cody Gardner and Brandon Anderson in the melee. All three were done for the night. Fifth-starter Garet Williamson’s top wing was peeled off in the incident, but he was able to return to action after a quick visit to the work area. Second Start – After restarting ninth, Washington’s Devon Borden spins to a stop in turn three to force a third try. One Lap – Two-time and defending STN champ Blake Hahn slows exiting turn four with a cut right rear tire and is unable to make it out of the work area before the race resumes. Three Laps – After starting on the front row outside and still holding down third behind Hagar and Bogucki, Harli White spins in turn four and collects fifth-runner Dale Howard who ends up on his side. Both are done. Lap Four Restart – Kyle Clark dumps it in turn three to precipitate another red flag with still just three laps in the books. 15 Laps – Battling for the fourth position with Howard Moore, Canadian Alex Hill clips an infield tire exiting turn four and takes a hard ride. Under the ensuing stoppage, Bogucki’s mount overheats and he is forced pitside, cutting short a torrid battle for second with Smith. Heat race wins on the night went to Hill, Smith, Covington, Ernie Ainsworth, Skinner, Joey Schmidt, Mallett, Gardner and Colby Thornhill while Moore, Hahn, Bogucki and Williamson bested the Qualifying Races. Ryan Bickett and Koty Adams won “C” Mains with Clark and Anderson best in the “B” Mains as Westbrook and Gennetten both made dramatic last-lap passes to snare final transfer positions. The night’s most violent crash leading up to the feature occurred in the second qualifier when Ernie Ainsworth tagged the wall exiting turn four and was hit by several cars including current Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour point leader Sam Hafertepe, Jr., in the aftermath of several cars were dicing for position. Ainsworth and three-time STN runner-up Hafertepe, Jr., were done for the night. Dodge City Raceway Park's Tommie Estes, Jr, steps down from GM position DODGE CITY, Kan. (September 24, 2020) – An era comes to an end at Dodge City Raceway Park as Tommie Estes, Jr., has elected to step down from his position as track manager and promoter at the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas. After a revolving door of promoters at the state-of-the-art facility in its first decade as a dirt track, Estes, Jr., assumed the role in 2011 soon after leaving his previous position as series coordinator with the American Sprint Car Series. Estes, Jr., has guided the DCRP facility for the past ten years, establishing several notable events including the DCRP Sprint Car Nationals and creating the 1/7-mile Little DCRP clay oval to provide a training ground for younger racers to develop their skills. After the racing facility completed its final weekend of a condensed 2020 racing season on September 19-20, Estes, Jr., announced the decision to resign from the position. “The city of Dodge City offered to extend my contract for another three years, but I declined,” Estes, Jr., explains. “I have enjoyed my ten years at Dodge City Raceway Park and appreciate all the support from the fans, racers, staff and sponsors over the past ten years. I just felt that it was time for a change and time to explore some other opportunities.” Estes, Jr., finished out his tenure at Dodge City Raceway Park with this past weekend’s Eighth Annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event atop the 3/8-mile clay oval including the track’s championship chase divisions of Hambelton Racing DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks as well as Sunday’s Little DCRP season finale for Micro Sprints and Karts. No immediate plans have been announced for the successor to Estes, Jr., at the Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval. Reutzel Defends Tuscarora 50 Title this Weekend by Lonnie Wheatley CLUTE, Texas (September 9, 2020) – Last September, Aaron Reutzel picked up the biggest win of his career by pocketing $52,000 at Port Royal Speedway’s Tuscarora 50. It was a lot better run than last night and a good race all in all.” With the Attica Ambush in the books, Reutzel and the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspension crew made an early run to Port Royal to take in Monday’s Labor Day Classic. All Star Points Leader Reutzel Closing in on First Ohio Speedweek Title by Lonnie Wheatley CLUTE, Texas (July 9, 2020) – Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team retain their position atop the All Star Circuit of Champions point charts as they vie for a third consecutive series championship. And, not only does the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution No. 87 Triple-X Sprint Car team reside atop the season point charts, Reutzel and crew are closing on a potential first “Ohio Sprint Speedweek” championship. With the initial half of Ohio Sprint Speedweek in the books, Reutzel carries a 16-point advantage into the final four races of the hectic slate of Ohio events that includes nine races in ten days. The final half gets under way Thursday night at Zanesville’s Muskingum County Speedway before moving on to Portsmouth Motor Speedway on Friday and then Hartford’s Sharon Speedway on Saturday and Sunday. “We just have to keep putting together strong finishes and the points will take care of themselves,” Reutzel surmises. It’s a habit that Reutzel is in the habit of aboard the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment entry as of late. Reutzel has reeled off 13 consecutive top-ten finishes including 11 among the top five. Among those are four wins and ten podium runs including his latest pair of triumphs in All Star action at Volunteer Speedway on June 27 and then Sunday’s Speedweek score at Fremont that brought his season win total to ten triumphs. After a fourth-place showing at Port Royal Speedway and the Volunteer Speedway win three nights later, Reutzel and the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspension team took in three nights of Pennsylvania Speedway with another pair of podium finishes at Lincoln Speedway and Port Royal Speedway. “It would have been nice to win one of those, but the competition there is really tough,” Reutzel said after finishes of second, eighth and third. “We were also trying a few different things, so hopefully that will pay off when we go back to those tracks later in the season.” After an off day, Ohio Sprint Speedweek began in earnest last Friday with Reutzel racing to third at Attica Raceway Park. Shifting to a Fremont Speedway double, Reutzel improved one position to second and then climbed one more step up the podium after racing the Fischer Body Shop machine to victory lane on Sunday night for his tenth win of the season. “Rough and heavy, slick; we just seem to adapt to anything and it’s pretty cool when you can do stuff like that,” Reutzel explained after taking the win on a slick track. “I couldn’t be more proud of my guys.” After a rare finish outside the top-five on Monday at Wayne County Speedway, Reutzel rebounded from potential disastrous engine issues in the Dash to capture another podium finish of third on Wednesday night at Peeble’s Brushcreek Motorsports Complex. Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (February 20, 2020) – Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team closed out the Florida Speedweeks portion of the 2020 early-season campaign in fine fashion by picking up the $10,000 “King of 360’s” Nationals winner’s share at Tampa’s East Bay Raceway Park on Saturday night. Following a fifth-place run in the Thursday night prelim before a Friday night rainout, Saturday’s triumph was the third Florida victory for the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X Sprint Car team and eighth top-ten in nine starts. “It was the kind of start to the season that you want to have,” said Reutzel, who also earned a pair of All Star Circuit of Champions victories along with three consecutive World of Outlaws top-ten finishes. “We need to qualify better in the Outlaw races to be in a better position to run up front, but we raced really well the entire time. We’re looking forward to the rest of the season.” The Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment team gets a breather until World of Outlaws action resumes in Texas at Paige’s Cotton Bowl Speedway and then Kilgore’s Lonestar Speedway on March 13-14. Reutzel will take in the opening portion of the WoO schedule in the ensuing weeks before digging in to take aim at a third consecutive All Star Circuit of Champions title with the April 10 season opener at Ohio’s Attica Raceway Park. Last weekend’s “King of 360’s” Nationals began with Reutzel posting a fourth-place heat race finish and then earning a fifth-place showing in the feature, good enough to lock into the top six in points and a feature starting position for Saturday’s $10,000-to-win Ronald Laney Memorial. “It was one of those typical East Bay tide-in racetracks, it was greasy all night,” Reutzel explained. “We were terrible early, we got okay later but had no chance of winning. Luckily, we got just enough points to lock into the feature.” Saturday looked to be more of the same with Reutzel slipping back several positions from his pole start in the 40-lap feature before the top came in and he moved the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspension machine back to the front by mid-race and stayed there throughout to earn the crown. “The track was the same as Thursday night and we still weren’t good,” Reutzel explains. “We tried some stuff in the Dash and still weren’t any good, then we weren’t any better when the feature started. We finally had a long run that made it into a normal racetrack, and I was able to get going up top. Reutzel Red Hot in Florida and Looking for More this Weekend at East Bay Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (February 13, 2020) – Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team have picked right up in 2020 where they left off at the close of the 2019 season. After racing to a nation’s best 18 410-ci feature wins last year and a second consecutive All Star Circuit of Champions title, Reutzel and the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X Sprint Car team went two-for-four in victories with the All Stars over the past week and reeled off three consecutive top-ten finishes in World of Outlaws competition as well at Volusia Speedway Park’s DIRTcar Nationals. After winning the second night of All Star competition at the DIRTcar Nationals last Thursday and then picking up another one in dominant fashion in the series return to Tampa’s East Bay Raceway Park on Monday night, Reutzel summed it up, ““We kinda picked up right where we left off last year. Whenever you’re running that good at the end of the year, you don’t want the year to end. Momentum can change and you can never be too sure how the next year is going to start.” Reutzel looks to keep the momentum going, swapping out the 410-ci powerplant to take a shot at the $10,000 winner’s share at East Bay Raceway Park’s “King of 360’s” Nationals that takes place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. “It always takes a few laps to adjust from the 410 to the 360,” the former ASCS National champion explained. “We had two good nights here earlier this week and once we get back in the 360 rhythm, we should be good.” The only hiccup for the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment team last week came in Wednesday’s opening leg of the five-night DIRTcar Nationals at Barberville’s Volusia Speedway Park. “We were a little too tight in qualifying and I just didn’t make very good laps,” Reutzel recalls. “Then it was pretty heavy all night, we were just too far behind to dig out of it.” Reutzel and the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspension team rebounded in championship style the following night with his first North American win of 2020 after capturing an earlier win in Australia. After a heat race win and a critical run from fourth to second in his Dash, Reutzel raced from fourth in the 25-lap All Star feature to capture the lead on the 16th lap en route to his first series win of the year. “Getting to second in the Dash was critical to putting us in a position where we could win the feature,” Reutzel explains. “We were able to find the rubber early to get around Brad (Sweet) for second and then we got fortunate when Ian (Madsen) made a mistake racing a lapped car that gave us the lead. We had just enough tire to make it to the finish, I don’t think we could have made another lap.” Reutzel followed that up with three consecutive top-ten finishes with the World of Outlaws including a tenth-place run on Friday, a charge from 23rd to ninth on Saturday and another showing of tenth from 14th on Sunday to finish out the DIRTcar Nationals. “We missed it a little bit in qualifying each night that put us behind,” Reutzel explains. “We raced really well each night though and went forward, so we feel good about it.” The All Star Circuit of Champions returned to Tampa’s East Bay Raceway Park for a two-night stand on Monday and Tuesday and the Clute, TX, native turned in a dominant performance to win the opening night before charging from 14th to fourth in the Tuesday card that wrapped up the 410-ci portion of Florida Speedweeks. In the Monday card, Reutzel needed just three laps to charge from sixth into the feature lead after setting quick time in qualifying earlier in the night. “I was the only car to go up top early, and it all just worked out from there,” Reutzel says. After a qualifying miscue on Tuesday, Reutzel rallied from deep in the field to capture fourth, making for six top-tens in seven nights of 410-ci competition. Reutzel Races into 2020 with Ten Florida Sprint Car Nights – Already has Posted Aussie Win & First Chili Bowl Feature by Lonnie Wheatley CLUTE, Texas (February 3, 2020) – The “off-season” has been a brief one if not non-existent for Aaron Reutzel. After racking up the nation’s best 18 feature wins and a second consecutive All Star Circuit of Champions title in 2019, Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team are ready to fire off the 2020 season with ten nights of competition in Florida. It all begins with the DIRTcar Nationals at Barberville, beginning on Wednesday night with two nights of All Star competition and then the opening three nights of the World of Outlaws season Friday, Saturday and Sunday. From there, All Star competition resumes at East Bay Raceway Park near Tampa on Monday and Tuesday (February 10-11) followed by the “King of 360’s Nationals” at East Bay on February 13-15. Following on the heels of a whirlwind Australian visit that netted his first win “Down Under” and then charging into his first Chili Bowl Nationals championship feature event, Reutzel has leaned on crew members Dylan Buswell and Jason Tetrault to make sure the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X Sprint Car is ready for Florida competition. “I’ve been there working on the cars as much as I can, but with all the racing we’ve been doing I haven’t been able to be there for all of it,” Reutzel comments. “I’m fortunate to have JimBob and Dylan, they can put cars together better than anyone so I know we’re ready to go.” While the Florida events don’t count towards All Star Circuit of Champions points, Reutzel and the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment team have their sights set on a third consecutive series title while taking in a major portion of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car schedule along the way in 2020. And the Clute, TX, native knows what it will take to win a third series title. “We still have a lot of things we can clean up,” Reutzel explains. “We have to keep our speed consistently and clean up the DNF’s. Some of those were out of our control, but there are others that we can eliminate such as driver error and parts failure. There is some really strong competition with the All Stars this year, so we have to cut down on those nights to win another championship.” Additional World of Outlaws triumphs are also among the goals for the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspension team. “We have been fortunate to get a couple of Outlaw wins the last couple of years and been close to some others,” Reutzel comments. “Those wins are so tough to come by; you have to be on your game to have a chance and then take advantage of those opportunities. We’re hoping to get at least a couple more of those this year.” After finishing out a banner 2019 campaign in the United States, Reutzel joined forces with the Saller Motorsports No. USA56 Triple-X for the Ultimate Sydney Speedway at Australia’s Valvoline Raceway where he posted finishes of sixth or better in five of six events including a pair of runner-up finishes and scored a World Series Sprintcar win at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oil Speedway during some down time on January 5. “Overall it was really good. The first night was kind of a just feeling things out, then after that we were contending for the win every night,” Reutzel said of his first Australian adventure. “It was a really cool family that I drove for and they made it a lot of fun, I really look forward to getting back there next year.” Reutzel returned stateside and led the Monday night Chili Bowl Midget Nationals opener on Monday, January 13, only to get collected in a crash. Reutzel rallied back through the field to claim third in the preliminary and then was on the move in the championship feature event on Saturday, January 18, before an incident cut the weekend short aboard the Tucker-Boat Motorsports No. 84 entry. “Chad (Boat) did a great job of changing things up for me, it was the first time I felt really comfortable racing in a Midget,” Reutzel commented. “The car was so good, I had a lot left when I got crashed leading on Monday. Then on Saturday, we got going really well after 20 laps or so and were moving up before we threw one slider that got us caught up and ended the race. It was fun to drive a car that felt that good.” After climbing to the 410-ci Sprint Car ranks full-time for the first time in 2018 and capturing the All Star Circuit of Champions title in his rookie campaign, Reutzel made an indelible mark on the 410-ci scene with a monster 2019 campaign that netted another crown, 18 wins and a second consecutive top-five finish at the Knoxville Nationals. Blake Hahn Makes it Two in a Row at I-30 Speedway’s Short Track Nationals by Lonnie Wheatley LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (October 5, 2019) –Blake Hahn added himself to a select list of elite racers by charging to his second consecutive Short Track Nationals championship feature win atop the high-banked, ¼-mile I-30 Speedway clay oval on Saturday night. Courtesy of Lonnie Wheatley Hahn reclaimed the point from John Carney II on the 21st circuit and led the rest of the way in the 41-lapper to take the $10,041-winner’s share in the 32nd Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires finale. “This is amazing,” Hahn said upon climbing out of the DriveWFX/Smiley’s No. 52 in victory lane. “We’ve been running well lately and to win this race twice in a row is incredible.” With the triumph, the Sapulpa, OK racer became just the fifth in STN history to win the event in back-to-back years, joining the likes of Steve Kinser (1988-1989), Gary Wright (2003-2004), Tony Bruce, Jr. (2008-2009) and, most recently, Sammy Swindell (2016-2017). Hahn bounced back from missing the cut in Friday night’s preliminary feature to race his way into Saturday’s four-car Mike Pack Building Materials “Dash for Cash”. And, after drawing the pole position, Hahn led all but the final milliseconds when Seth Bergman nipped him at the line to earn a $500 bonus and the pole for the 41-lap finale with Carson Short and Carney II earning second row starting berths. Hahn gunned into the initial lead only to surrender the point to Carney II on just the second lap. Carney II kept Hahn and company at bay in the ensuing rounds, fending off a pair of bids from Hahn along the way. Hahn began to close in as the midway point approached and dove underneath Carney II entering turn three on the 21st round to recapture the lead. With the final 23 laps run in non-stop fashion after three interruptions in the initial 18 circuits, Hahn worked through some traffic and set a rapid pace to maintain a half-straightaway lead as the laps clicked off. Carney II and Bergman diced in his wake, swapping the runner-up position several times before a tense moment in traffic allowed Bergman to secure the position. Working the cushion, Bergman chipped away at Hahn’s advantage in the closing circuits only to come up short at the line. “I think we may have had something for him if the cautions would have fallen a little different and we had got to more traffic,” the Snohomish, WA, native said after his career-best STN finish. After posting a runner-up finish in Friday’s preliminary, El Paso’s Carney II earned his best career STN championship feature finish as well by rounding out the podium in third. While the trio of Han, Bergman and Carney II monopolized the top three positions throughout the 41-lapper, position changes behind them were frequent with Sam Hafertepe, Jr., ultimately taking the fourth position after starting 13th. Hafertepe, Jr., surged over the final half of the race, gaining a handful of positions to post his fourth career STN top-five. On the charge with Hafertepe, Jr., Lindsay, Oklahoma’s Harli White rallied from 15th to become the first lady racer to crack the top five in an STN championship feature. Friday preliminary winner Derek Hagar was sixth with Howard Moore, Dylan Westbrook, Chris Martin and Charlie Louden completing the top ten after race-long, top-ten contenders Matt Covington and Carson Short tangled in turn one on the final circuit just as Hahn streaked underneath the checkered flag. The race’s first stoppage happened after seven circuits when Zach Pringle and Tony Bruce, Jr., tangled getting into turn three with Greg Wilson going off the embankment to avoid the carnage. All three were done for the night. The caution flew two rounds later Scott Bogucki’s powerplant expired with a final interruption after 18 laps when Chris Martin spun to a stop in turn one. Louden and Bogucki were the only two drivers that started a first career STN championship finale. Hagar, Louden, Eric Baldaccini, Hafertepe, Jr., Pringle, Short, Moore and Bergman each topped heat races to pick up a bonus of $100 courtesy of Jenkins Fleet Services. Martin, Bogucki, Carney II and Brandon Hanks topped qualifying races with Monty Ferriera and Brad Bowden victorious in “C” Main action before Hafertepe, Jr., Bruce, Jr., won the “B” Mains. “The Guy” Hagar Wins Short Track Nationals Prelim by Lonnie Wheatley LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (October 4, 2019) – For the first time in his career, Marion, Arkansas native Derek “The Guy” Hagar reached victory lane in an STN feature event by wiring the field in Friday night’s 25-lap preliminary at the 32nd Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires atop the high-banked ¼-mile I-30 Speedway clay oval. Courtesy of Lonnie Wheatley Hagar got the best of pole starter John Carney II on the initial start and then held off the El Paso native after a caution in the final five laps to take the $2,500 winner’s share in the STN appetizer aboard the Dynotech-powered Southern Collision Center No. 9jr J&J. “I was running as hard as I needed to keep the lead but was still trying to save the tires,” Hagar commented after besting last year’s previous best runner-up preliminary feature finish. Friday marked Hagar’s eighth career STN prelim feature run. Carney II earned the pole position over a field of 69 competitors after racing from fourth to first to win his heat race and then from sixth to first to win his qualifier to top the night’s point charts. However, it was outside front row starter Hagar diving into the first turn to take the opening lap lead. “I knew I had to get down in front of him right away,” Hagar commented. Hagar set the pace ahead of Carney II with Canada’s Dylan Westbrook moving to apply pressure for second until a lap nine bobble opened the door for Mississippi’s Dale Howard to take over third position. Working delicately through traffic from the ninth lap on, Hagar kept Carney II at bay until a caution flew with just four laps remaining when fourth-running Westbrook popped a right rear tire. Carney II tried to mount a challenge on the restart, but Hagar was up to the task and raced on to victory lane with Carney settling for runner-up honors aboard the Sander Construction/South Plains Auto Transport/Mesilla Valley Transportation No. J2 Sprint Car “I probably shouldn’t have let him cut down on me like that getting into the first turn, but we’ll take second tonight,” Carney II commented. “It may go a little different for $10,041 to win.” Howard held off Seth Bergman in the closing laps to claim the show position with the Washington native next across the line in fourth. Harli White, who scored her first career ASCS Regional win at I-30 Speedway earlier this season, rounded out the top five. Ohio’s Greg Wilson crossed the stripe sixth in his STN return ahead of event rookie Justin Peck of Monrovia, IN. Sam Hafertepe, Jr., three-time STN runner-up including each of the past two years, was eighth with Cody Gardner and Justin Henderson completing the top ten. Dewayne White became the first flip victim of the 2019 STN with a wild ride through turn one in the fourth heat with Cody Hays getting upside down as the next heat went green. Reutzel Runs Season Win Total to 15 – Looks for More in this Weekend’s All Star Triple by Lonnie Wheatley CLUTE, Texas (September 19, 2019) – Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team just keep rolling right along. Reutzel and the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X team made it at least one win in each of the five weekends since a top-five finish at the Knoxville Nationals with a $12,554 triumph at Atomic Speedway’s Dean Knittel Memorial finale on Saturday night. The triumph ran Reutzel’s season win total to 15 and pushed his All Star Circuit of Champions points lead to 54 markers with just four nights of series competition remaining. Three of those nights take place this weekend, beginning with Friday night’s Tommy Hinnershitz Memorial at central Pennsylvania’s Williams Grove Speedway before moving on to Lincoln Speedway on Saturday and then Maryland’s Hagerstown Speedway on Sunday. This weekend’s triple wraps up a string of big money weekends in All Star Circuit of Champions competition with as much $30,000 up for grabs including a $20,000 winner’s share in Saturday’s Dirt Classic at Lincoln Speedway. Last weekend’s three-race set at Chillicothe’s Atomic Speedway opened with Reutzel posting finishes of fifth and fourth on Thursday and Friday before climbing to the top rung of the ladder in Saturday’s big-money finale aboard the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment machine. Reutzel began each of the three nights in identical fashion by establishing the night’s quickest time in qualifying. It ran his number of quick times on the season to an astounding total of 20. “Some of it is our cars and some of it is just the pill draw,” Reutzel said of his penchant for timing in quickest on the night. In the Thursday night feature, Reutzel entered the mix for the lead and then settled for fifth in the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspensions entry after contact with the wall. “We were a little off in the feature, but I still thought we had a car to win,” Reutzel explains. “But I smacked the fence and knocked the ladder off so I just hung on for fifth.” On Friday, Reutzel improved a position to finish fourth. “We missed it in the feature, but we were starting up front and I thought I might be able to hold them off with the track conditions,” Reutzel says. “But I hit a rut and bounced off the track and we just rode in fourth the rest of the way.” Reutzel and the BRM No. 87 saved the best of the weekend for last, leading all 30 laps of the feature to pocket the $12,554 winner’s share. “We finally put the whole thing together between the car and the driver,” Reutzel says. “The car was flawless all night.” Reutzel and crew will try to keep that momentum going with this weekend’s set of events in central Pennsylvania and Maryland. 2019 Quick Stats: 73 races, 15 wins, 35 top-fives, 48 top-tens. Crucial All Star Weekend Looms for Reutzel after Another Win by Lonnie Wheatley CLUTE, Texas (August 22, 2019) – Another All Star Circuit of Champions weekend resulted in another win for Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team. Now, just a few points out of the lead, the reigning series champion takes on a four-race weekend in central Pennsylvania as he tries to recapture the point lead following an unfortunate DNF last Friday night in Michigan. “This is the weekend that won us the championship last year,” the driver of the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X Sprint Car commented. “We went in just a few points behind Paul (McMahan) and had a really good weekend. Now we’re just a few behind Dale (Blaney). Hopefully we can have the same kind of finishes that we had last year.” It’s a weekend that begins at Grandview Speedway on Thursday before moving on to the storied Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, Lincoln Speedway on Saturday and then BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday. The same swing last year netted a win at Grandview along with a third-place finish at the Grove and then fifth-place runs at Lincoln and BAPS. Reutzel enters the four-race stretch coming off seventh series win of the year last Saturday at Indiana’s Plymouth Speedway. After being taken out by another car under red flag conditions the previous night, Reutzel meant business from the beginning at Plymouth aboard the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment machine. He set a new track record of 12.233 seconds in qualifying and then earned the pole position for the 30-lap feature with a Dash win before leading all 30 laps for his ninth overall win of the season. It got a little closer than the pilot of the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspensions machine might have liked though. “I got to the first group of lapped cars and they were all running the same line, so I was able to get through them pretty well,” Reutzel explained. “The second group was racing each other and I slowed my pace down to get through them. I almost slowed down too much and (Brock) Zearfoss nearly got to us.” It could have easily been a weekend sweep after Reutzel was in command at Michigan’s I-96 Speedway the previous night. After setting another quick time, Reutzel led the way until a red flag flew and another car ended his night. “We were out front and I was just trying to burn down some laps and not do anything stupid,” Reutzel says. “They called a red flag over the radio, so I slowed down and just got taken out.” The DNF proved costly in terms of points. Reutzel Back on the All Star Title Hunt after Top Five Knoxville Nationals Finish by Lonnie Wheatley CLUTE, Texas (August 16, 2019) – After another stellar Knoxville Nationals effort, Aaron Reutzel resumes his pursuit of a second consecutive All Star Circuit of Champions title with a pair of events in Michigan and Indiana this weekend. Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team take to Lake Odessa, Michigan’s I-96 Speedway for the first time on Friday night before moving on to Indiana’s Plymouth Speedway on Saturday night. Reutzel was victorious in his first visit to Plymouth Speedway last year. The driver of the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X Sprint Car enters the weekend after posting his second consecutive top-five Knoxville Nationals finish after earning Hard Charger honors with a run through the field to seventh in 2017. After earning a fourth-place finish, this time Reutzel finished out the Nationals with a fifth-place run aboard the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment machine. Reutzel had earned the pole position for the $150,000-to-win event by virtue of a strong qualifying time on Thursday followed up by a critical eighth-to-second place run in heat race action and then a fifth-place feature finish aboard the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspensions machine. And Reutzel started the Saturday night feature in strong form. Perhaps too strong. “We were way too good early,” Reutzel says. “I knew we might be in trouble then.” Leading the way until the 14th round, Reutzel still held on to second until the midway break in the 50-lapper. “I knew I was getting loose, so I started searching around and didn’t make very good laps,” Reutzel explained. With a chance to make adjustments, Reutzel and crew gambled on adjustments to better their chances for a victory over the final 25 circuits. “We ended up making too many changes and got the car too tight for the last half of the race,” Reutzel comments. The reigning All Star Circuit of Champions titlist still raced to a fifth-place finish to make for another successful Knoxville Nationals outing for the BRM No. 87 team. “We wanted that win, but it was still another great weekend for our team and something we can continue to build on,” Reutzel concluded. Bubak Banks Second Consecutive Belleville 305 Sprint Car Nationals Triumph by Lonnie Wheatley BELLEVILLE, Kan. (August 3, 2019) – Jake Bubak kept his Belleville 305 Sprint Car Nationals perfection alive by storming to a $7,000 payday in Saturday night’s United Rebel Sprint Series-sanctioned Second Annual Belleville 305 Nationals 30-lap finale atop the ½-mile Belleville High Banks clay oval. Courtesy of Lonnie Wheatley It completed an improbably duplication of last year’s Belleville 305 Sprint Car Nationals two-night sweep with the Arvada, CO, shoe now four-for-four in event competition aboard the Coyote Candle Company No. 74x Sprint Car. While Bubak didn’t wire the field this time around, he bettered himself in the lapped cars department by leaving just six other cars on the lead lap after lapping all but seven other cars in last year’s inaugural event. This time, Eagle, Nebraska’s Tyler Drueke earned the pole position for the feature with Bubak alongside. But it was fourth-starter Jason Martin gunning into the lead on the initial circuit ahead of Bubak, Jed Werner and Drueke. Martin held off Bubak for a half dozen rounds before Bubak powered by for the point. Martin tried to fight back, but Bubak began to slip away as the laps clicked off. Bubak reached traffic in short order and spent the last two-thirds of the feature event slicing through the field. By the time the checkered flag flew, Bubak held more than a half-lap advantage over Drueke, who made a late move past Martin to snare runner-up honors. Martin settled for the show position behind Bubak and Drueke with Luke Cranston picking off several positions in the closing circuits to snare fourth. J.D. Johnson rounded out the top five with Joe Wood, Jr. and Jed Werner the final cars on the lead lap. Ty Williams was eighth with Shane Sundquist and Buddy Tubbs completing the top ten. The original start to the feature was waved off when Jeremy Huish got into the turn one guardrail and suffered race-ending damage. One lap later, Trey Gropp took a wild ride in turn one that precipitated a red flag. Gropp walked away from the damage, picking up Hard Luck honors. Cranston, Bubak, Drueke, J.D. Johnson and Werner topped heat race action with Drueke, Zach Blurton, Bubak and Williams winning the qualifying races. Before Gropp’s “A” Main tumble, T.J. Cain became the weekend’s first flip victim when he tumbled down the backstretch on the opening lap of the fifth and final heat race. Nebraska’s Shayle Bade and Arkansas’ Tim Crawley, who suffered ignition box woes that sidelined him from heat race action, both earned “B” Main wins. Bubak Shines Again in Belleville 305 Nationals Preliminary by Lonnie Wheatley BELLEVILLE, Kan. (August 2, 2019) – Jake Bubak continues to find the Belleville High Banks to his liking. That was evident with his $2,500 triumph in Friday night’s United Rebel Sprint Series-sanctioned Second Annual Belleville 305 Sprint Car Nationals preliminary atop the lightning-fast half-mile clay oval aboard the Coyote Candle Company No. 74b entry. Coutesy of Lonnie Wheatley It marked the Arvada, Colorado racer’s fourth consecutive score atop the High Banks including a sweep of last year’s Inaugural edition of the Belleville 305 Sprint Car Nationals. After earning the pole position for the feature, Bubak had his hands full throughout with Jason Martin pushing him to the limit. In fact, Martin gunned into the lead from the front row outside upon the drop of the green flag and paced the initial four laps before Bubak battled by on the top side. Bubak began to slip away from Martin’s grasp after several laps and encountered traffic on the 12th round just as a caution flew for Craig Dollansky, who slowed just three laps after taking third away from Jed Werner. Martin made a bid for the lead on the restart with the duo side-by-side for nearly a lap before Bubak reestablished command. The same scenario played out again four laps later when a final caution flew for Luke Cranston’s stalled mount. Bubak fought off Martin over the closing circuits with Arkansas’ filling out the podium in third. Werner was fourth with J.D. Johnson rounding out the top five. Ty Williams advanced a half-dozen positions to claim sixth with Tyler Drueke turning in the night’s top passing performance by rallying from 18th to seventh. Courtney wins USAC “Midwest Midget Championship” finale at Jefferson County Speedway by Lonnie Wheatley FAIRBURY, Neb. (July 13, 2019) – Current NOS Energy Drink USAC National Midget Series points leader Tyler Courtney finished off Jefferson County Speedway’s Riverside Chevrolet Midwest Midget Championship presented by Westin Packaged Meats and Schmidt’s Sanitation by storming to victory lane in Saturday night’s 40-lap feature event atop the 1/5-mile clay oval. Courtney took advantage of a Kevin Thomas, Jr, miscue on a lap five restart to take command after starting from the pole position and led the frantic final 36 laps aboard the Clauson-Marshall Racing No. 7bc NOS Energy Drink Toyota-powered entry. It wasn’t without some late drama though, as Thomas, Jr., had one last shot at stealing the win after a final caution that set up a four-lap dash to the stripe. “I saw someone there racing with me for the win,” Courtney said in victory lane. “I hadn’t been on the bottom of the track since early in the race so I knew I just had to keep hitting my marks up top.” While Courtney started from the pole position, it was front row outside starter Thomas, Jr., jumping into the initial lead as Courtney fell back to fourth behind Jerry Coons, Jr., and Tanner Thorson on the opening lap. Courtney rebounded quickly though by getting back up to second by the time the first of three cautions flew after four laps for 2016 Fairbury winner Chad Boat. And when Thomas, Jr., stumbled on the turn two cushion on the restart, Courtney took quick advantage and raced into a lead that he wouldn’t relinquish aside from a few backstretch feet on the 38th lap. A 22-lap green flag stretch had the leaders dicing through traffic much of the way until Brady Bacon came to a stop outside of turn two with 26 laps in the books. And, by that time, Courtney had three lapped cars separating himself from Thomas, Jr., and reigning series champion Logan Seavey. Courtney raced away on open track as Thomas, Jr., and Seavey lost ground working lapped traffic. The advantage was negated when Ethan Mitchell spun to a stop in turn three with just four laps to go. Thomas, Jr., challenged on the final restart, edging ahead briefly exiting turn two on the 38th lap. Courtney continued to rail the topside and made it work for his sixth series win of the year. “We brought our game tonight,” Courtney explained. “We have to capitalize on nights like this when we start up front.” Thomas, Jr., settled for second in the Petry Motorsports No. 5 entry. “Other than my mistake early in the race, I felt like we had equal cars,” Thomas, Jr., commented. “I tried to sneak by and it worked until I got in the grease and pushed up.” Seavey settled for the show position in the Keith Kunz Motorsports Mobil 1 No. 67 Toyota-powered machine. “Those last ten laps were a lot of fun, this track is always fun to race at,” Seavey said Coons, Jr., crossed the stripe fourth while Tyler Thomas earned Hard Charger honors by rounding out the top five after starting 11th. Friday night winner Jason McDougal was sixth with Tanner Carrick, Tanner Thorson, Chris Windom and Tucker Klaasmeyer completing the top ten. McDougal Masters USAC Midwest Midget Championship Night One at Jefferson County by Lonnie Wheatley FAIRBURY, Neb. (July 12, 2019) – The opening night of Jefferson County Speedway’s Riverside Chevrolet Midwest Midget Championship presented by Westin Packaged Meats and Schmidt’s Sanitation offered up a first-time NOS Energy Drink USAC National Midget series feature winner with Jason McDougal topping Friday night’s 30-lap feature atop the 1/5-mile clay oval. Courtesy of USAC McDougal assumed the point when early leader Tanner Thorson ran afoul of lapped traffic on the 19th circuit and then kept the Clauson-Marshall Racing duo of Tyler Courtney and Chris Windom at bay over the final dozen circuits to secure the $3,000 triumph aboard the FMR No. 76m entry. “This is amazing, it’s such a great feeling to finally get one for this team,” the Broken Arrow, OK native commented in victory lane. “Tanner (Thorson) was gone by a straightaway or so, but Bob (East) always gets this thing pretty tight at the beginning so we’re always fast for the last five laps.” While McDougal gridded the feature field outside the second row, 2017 Fairbury USAC Midget winner Tanner Thorson led the feature field to the green flag with California’s Robert Dalby alongside. Thorson gunned into the early lead with McDougal making a move past Dalby soon after a lap five caution for Tyler Thomas’ turn four spin into an infield tire. McDougal tried to chase down Thorson’s Keith Kunz Motorsports No. 98 entry, but the Nevada native held off the young Oklahoma racer until spinning to a stop on the frontstretch on the 19th lap after contact with a lapped car. McDougal slipped through the skirmish unharmed with third-runner Kevin Thomas, Jr., and fourth-place contender Tucker Klaasmeyer collected in the scrum as well. Thomas, Jr., left on the hook, Thorson returned after a quick trip to the work area and Klaasmeyer returned as well only to flip down the backstretch one lap later. Set for an 11-lap dash to the checkered flag, McDougal had the NOS Energy Drink CMR duo of Windom and 12th-starting Courtney breathing down his neck the rest of the way. McDougal opened up a slight advantage until Courtney finally battled past Windom for second on the high side. Courtney and Windom closed in over the final handful of rounds with Courtney falling just two car-lengths short at the stripe as Windom settled for the show position. “I think one more lap and we would have had him, but it’s only 30 laps,” Courtney said of the close finish. Windom explained that, “It was a crazy race that first half, then it widened out some at the end. Jason was a little better than us on the bottom, then I saw Tyler come by the outside of me and I moved up and we both ran him down. I wish we would have moved up a little sooner, I think we could have got to Jason. It’s good to be on the podium again, but we’re looking for wins.” Chad Boat, a 2016 winner at Fairbury, advanced from ninth to fourth with fellow Arizona shoe and tenth-starter Jerry Coons, Jr., rounding out the top five. Tyler Thomas rebounded from the early incident to claim sixth with current series points leader Logan Seavey, Andrew Layser, Zeb Wise and Dalby completing the top ten. Reutzel Runs Win Total to Seven – New York Triple on Deck this Weekend by Lonnie Wheatley CLUTE, Texas (July 12, 2019) – Another weekend of All Star Circuit of Champions competition netted another win for reigning series champion Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team. Reutzel is looking for more this weekend with a set of events in New York beginning at Utica-Rome Speedway on Friday that is in neither Utica nor Rome but in Vernon. From there, action shifts to Middletown’s Orange County Speedway on Saturday and then West Lebanon’s Lebanon Valley Speedway on Sunday. “It’s really the start of another Speedweek for us,” Reutzel says. “We do these three nights, then we get one night off before five straight nights with the World of Outlaws in Ohio.” Reutzel rides into New York with momentum on the side of the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X team after a triumph at Lernerville Speedway last Friday and then a fifth-place finish at Sharon Speedway on Saturday. And Reutzel will be the first to admit that the Sharon finish could have been a better one. “I set fast time by three-tenths of a second,” Reutzel said of his qualifying run. “I guess I was thinking about something on the car, and I just drove right past the scales and back to the pits. I haven’t done that since the Micro Sprint days.” With his time disallowed, Reutzel rallied from last in his heat race to third to secure the 13th starting position for the feature. Running around tenth midway through the feature, Reutzel got on the move and made his way up to fifth in the closing laps aboard the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment machine. “(Dale) Blaney was on his own level, but I think we had a second-place car,” Reutzel recalls. “It was a good rebound for us after getting off to a bad start.” After setting quick time the previous night at Lernerville, Reutzel and the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspensions team dealt with some adversity to achieve their seventh win of the year. “The motor had a stumble and it wouldn’t clear out, and we couldn’t figure out exactly what the issue was,” Reutzel explains. “So, after the Dash, we changed everything motor and fuel related.” The hard work in the pit area paid off, with Reutzel needing just eight laps to race into the lead from seventh en route to another win. “I was able to run right through the middle of the track and went straight to the lead,” Reutzel says of his fifth series win of the year. Seavey Strikes for “Tuesday Night Thunder” Glory at Red Dirt Raceway! by Lonnie Wheatley MEEKER, Okla. (July 9, 2019) – In a NOS Energy Drink USAC National Midget feature event that offered up more twists and turns than the country highways and byways leading to Red Dirt Raceway, Sutter, California’s Logan Seavey emerged to take “Tuesday Night Thunder” honors atop the ¼-mile red clay oval. With three and four-wide battles the norm throughout the 30-lapper, the reigning series champion railed the topside of the track to take the lead away from Jerry Coons, Jr., on the 24th round and led the final seven circuits to pocket the $3,000 winner’s share aboard the Keith Kunz Motorsports Mobil 1 No. 67. Posting his second series win of the year, Seavey was chased to the stripe by Clauson-Marshall Racing rep Zeb Wise with fellow CMR shoe Chris Windom edging Coons, Jr., for the final podium position. “Once the race came to me, I was patient and when a couple of them crashed out it cleaned up the field and I was able to make the moves I really wanted to make,” Seavey explained in victory lane. “I was trying to not get crashed, everyone was running so hard. That’s what makes these races so exciting.” While Seavey gridded the feature field ninth after clinging to the final transfer from “B” Main action after a late run-in with teammate Tucker Klaasmeyer, current series points leader Tyler Courtney and Broken Arrow native Jason McDougal led the way to the green flag. After the initial start was waved off for a turn four fracas, McDougal gunned into the early lead aboard the FMR No. 76m and paced the initial eight circuits before Courtney pounced on the lead on a lap nine restart with the red flag flying moments later when Holley Hollan exited the venue with a flyer over the turn three wall. Hollan escaped injury. McDougal battled back in front for a lap on the restart, only to have Courtney recapture the lead with chaos soon ensuing in his wake when Tanner Carrick slid McDougal for second getting into turn one on the 16th lap. With the aspiring flamingo breeder slowed from the contact, top-five contender Kevin Thomas, Jr., made contact and flipped with fellow front runner Tanner Thorson also involved as Tyler Thomas got upside down as well in the melee. McDougal and Thomas, Jr., were done for the night while the others were able to rejoin. Courtney took off on the restart ahead of Carrick, Windom and Wise with Seavey up to sixth, but “Sunshine” surrendered the lead soon after when his NOS Energy Drink No. 7bc slowed on the backstretch with mechanical woes on the 18th round. Windom assumed the point and traded the lead with Carrick before Coons, Jr., catfished the low line and surged in front in a three-wide battle for the lead. A final caution flew with seven laps remaining when Carrick slowed with a flattened left rear after contact from a Windom slider. Up to second by avoiding all the chaos, Seavey made the top of the track work to his advantage and raced past Coons, Jr., on the restart and led the rest of the way to the checkered flag with Angola, Indiana’s Wise racing into second place. “It’s a dream come true to be racing right now, I just can’t thank Keith (Kunz) and Pete (Willoughby) enough for believing in me,” Seavey summed up. “We’re just having a dream year.” After starting seventh, runner-up Wise commented that, “I knew starting seventh that I had to do what I do to get to the front and we were able to edge them out for second.” Rounding out the podium in third, Windom said that, “There was a lot going on there. We got to the lead and the 71k was short sliding guys all night, so I finally took care of that. I didn’t mean to actually hit him, but if he’s not gonna lift then I’m not gonna let him have the position and it bumped us back to about sixth. There was a lot of haymaker slidejobs, this has got to be awesome to watch for the fans.” Racing from the 15th starting position, Coons, Jr., crossed the stripe fourth with Broken Arrow’s Jonathan Beason earning Hard Charger honors by racing from 17th to round out the top five aboard the Hard Eight Racing No. 8J. Owasso’s Matt Sherrell raced from 16th to sixth with 13th-starter Chard Boat in seventh as none of the top seven finishers started better than seventh. Tanner Thorson salvaged an eighth-place finish after being collected in a mid-race incident with Tucker Klaasmeyer and Tyler Thomas completing the top ten. USAC Midgets “Tuesday Night Thunder” at Red Dirt Raceway by Lonnie Wheatley MEEKER, Okla. (July 8, 2019) – The nation’s top Midget racecar drivers invade Oklahoma for the only time this summer as the NOS Energy Drink USAC National Midget series takes to Meeker’s Red Dirt Raceway for “Tuesday Night Thunder”. The series returned to Oklahoma for the first time in more than 40 years last year and home state hero Christopher Bell fought off Logan Seavey for victory honors. Seavey, the defending series champion fresh off an Indiana Midget Week championship last month and a POWRi Pepsi Nationals triumph on Sunday, looks to improve by one position this time around. Reutzel Racks Up another All Star Win – Continues Title Defense with Pair of Events this Weekend Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (July 5, 2019) – Aaron Reutzel racked up perhaps one of his more impressive wins in All Star Circuit of Champions competition at Joliet’s Dirt Track at Route 66 last Saturday. Then he stormed eastward and picked off a pair of top-five finishes in Pennsylvania Speedweek competition. Now, Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team resume their All Star Circuit of Champions with a pair of events along the Western Pennsylvania / Eastern Ohio border this weekend at Sarver’s Lernerville Speedway on Friday night and then Hartford’s Sharon Speedway on Saturday night. Reutzel raced to victory lane at both venues during last year’s championship campaign aboard the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X entry. “We had good runs at both tracks last year, so hopefully that means we can have another good weekend,” Reutzel commented. After the first of last weekend’s pair of All Star events fell victim to rain at Illinois’s Jacksonville Speedway, Reutzel romped to victory lane at Joliet the next night for the second year in a row aboard the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment machine. And he did it the hard way after a Dash tumble that had the team prepared to break out the backup car and start at the tail. “I got in on the cushion and half spun, and when you’re going that fast the half spin turns into a flip,” Reutzel explains. “When I got back to the trailer, our guys were already rolling out the backup and it was ready to go.” Further examination made the team reconsider their options. “When the car got back, we looked it over and it was mostly just bolt on stuff so we decided to fix it and at least hang on to the eighth starting position,” Reutzel says. “It turned out to be a really good decision.” Reutzel wasted little time rallying through the field and stormed on to an easy All Star victory for the fifth time this season and sixth overall of 2019 in the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspensions machine. “I got up to third and was closing in on Paul (McMahan) and I kept seeing Kyle (Larson) more and more before we had a red,” Reutzel said before a mid-race red flag occurred. Reutzel raced into the lead in short order when action resumed and was well in command the rest of the way. “We have had a good car there the last two years, that place has been good for us,” Reutzel said of the Joliet clay oval. Reutzel then took in his first of three legs of Pennsylvania Speedweek competition on Monday night at Lincoln Speedway and promptly turned in the night’s quickest time. A bad redraw for the feature made for a challenge, with Reutzel ultimately finishing out the night in fifth. “We drew the seven for the feature and then there was always people racing for position right ahead of us so it made it hard to get anywhere,” Reutzel recalls. “We finally had a couple of cautions late and I was able to get up to fourth. I tried to make a move after the last caution to move up but it cost us a spot and we ended up fifth.” Moving on to Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, it was more of the same with early speed netting a heat race win and a similar feature redraw netting another fifth place finish. “It was about exactly the same as Lincoln,” Reutzel says. “We were good at times of the race; at one point we were there with the lead group. It was just hard to get going anywhere though consistently.” Reutzel finished out his portion of Pennsylvania Speedweek at Port Royal Speedway on Wednesday and ended the night early with a cut tire. “We missed it some in qualifying and then had a good heat race,” Reutzel says. “We were racing for position in the feature and got into it with someone and cut the right rear tire, so that was the end of our night.” Back on the All Star trail this weekend, Reutzel looks to open his points lead as he chases a second consecutive series title. 2019 Quick Stats: 37 races, 6 wins, 14 top-fives, 22 top-tens. (May 15, 2019) – The format for the much-anticipated upcoming Third Annual Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP 305 Sprint Car Nationals atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park in southwest Kansas has been revealed. Expanding from two nights to three nights this year on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 13-15, each night will feature a full card of racing action. Among the early entries is reigning DCRP 305 Nationals champion Jake Martens of Fairview, OK, along with defending track champion Steven Richardson of Liberal among others. The $3,000-to-win event that could potentially climb to as much as $4,500 with lap money included features the best in 305-ci Sprint Car racing includes the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars along with the United Rebel Sprint Series and Sprint Series of Oklahoma along with move invaders from throughout.
