DCRP Hosts USAC Southwest Freedom Tour Finale Next Month

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 14, 2016) – In just its fourth year, the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars “Freedom Tour” is already evolving into one of the year’s most enjoyable tours for fans and competitors alike.

And, it’s little more than one month away, with the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval in southwest Kansas set to host the final round of the four-race set once again on Saturday night, August 20.

While this is the fourth year for the Arizona-based USAC Southwest Sprint Car series to battle it out versus the locals throughout Oklahoma and Kansas for four mid-August night, this year’s “Freedom Tour” week will also include POWRi West vs. RMMRA Midgets for all four nights as well.

Last year, the POWRi West Midgets tested the waters by joining in on the middle rounds at Creek County Speedway and 81 Speedway.

Dodge City Raceway Park once again anchors the four-race set of event with preceding rounds at Lawton Speedway on Wednesday night, August 17, Creek County Speedway near Tulsa on August 18 and then into Kansas at Wichita’s 81 Speedway on Friday night, August 19.

The August 20 “Freedom Tour” finale at Dodge City Raceway Park will also include the Kansas Antique Racers (K.A.R.) Evart Isaac Tribute along with the wingless Sprint Cars of the USAC Southwest series and the long-awaited return of Midget racing action to Dodge City.

Reigning USAC Southwest champion R.J. Johnson finished off last year’s “Freedom Tour” by racing to victory lane at Dodge City Raceway Park after Charles Davis, Jr. (Lawton), Blake Hahn (Creek County) and Mike Martin (Wichita) topped previous rounds.

Other “Freedom Tour” winners at Dodge City Raceway Park include Mike Bonneau in 2014 after Davis, Jr., and Rick Ziehl split Dodge City wins in 2013.

Tickets to the August 20 USAC Southwest Sprint Cars “Freedom Tour” along with POWRi West vs. RMMRA Midgets and the K.A.R. Evart Isaac Tribute are just $20 for adults with children eleven and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Career USAC Southwest Sprint Car “Freedom Tour” feature wins: Charles Davis, Jr. 2, R.J. Johnson 2, Mike Martin 2, Rick Ziehl 2, Brady Bacon 1, Mike Bonneau 1, Blake Hahn 1, Danny Smith 1.
