Shady Oaks Speedway Bicycle/School Supply Giveaway Bash

The track surface at Shady Oaks Speedway last night led to some rough patches and bounce around action. While the track was hosting their Bicycle and School Supply Giveaways, track crews worked feverishly to improve the surface and for the mains, track was improved greatly.

Eleven Dwarf/Mod Lites were the first to tackle the track after the intermission festivities were completed. SOS gave the drivers a few hot laps and waited for the thumbs up from the drivers before starting the Feature Events for the evening. Greg Sexton and Rob Sanderson were on the front row but unfortunately for Sanderson, looked like he missed a gear or something on the start and drove a crippled car to a disappointing 8th place finish after winning his heat race and was flying around the track earlier. Sexton would use that misfortune to cruise to an easy victory by a full straightaway ahead of Scott Adams in the #15 machine. Rick Adcock, Brent Brocker, and Eric Salles Jr, rounded out the top 5.

Six Classics pulled out next for their main event as Chris Shafer and Robert Danielsen led them to green. Pretty interesting mix yesterday evening with 3 10" tire cars, 1 8" tire car and 2 Hot Stock Trucks. Shafer would check out from Danielsen, Kevin Willms and Will Chomitzky then the two trucks of James Jennings and Travis Schmidt. Danielsen with left front blazing on the entries tried in vane to reel in Shafer as Shafer clearly the class of the field wins by a large margin. Chomitzky spun in turn 2 but would get the top 5 finish with a DQ to Schmidt's truck.

A full field of 19 Pure Stocks came out and definitely was the best race of the night. Action all throughout the field as one as come to expect with this group. Travis Weatherford and Dakota Heinaman led the field to green and tried to pull away early with Cooter Koehne tagging along. Gary McDonnel and Lonnie Koehne chasing them down. Leaders got into lap traffic within ten laps and while leading, Heinaman and Brenda Jennings come together twice on the back straight causing Heinaman a right rear tire and the chances for the win. Weatherford capitalized on the contact and pulled away with the Koehne boys in hot pursuit, McDonnel in 4th and Chris Holle splitting two cars and pulling into 5th with the move of the night. That's how they will finish and the Pure Stocks ran their feature with the highest car count of the night and had 0 cautions in the Feature, very impressive showing.

Street Stocks came over the hill next as 9 would take the green, unfortunately Rene Mares would lose a driveshaft entering turn 1 so that left 8 to battle it out on the second attempt to start the race. The top 3 of Craig Oakes, Kenneth Densman and Jason Fitch pull away until Fitch breaks and pulls into the infield. Meanwhile, DJ Schroat has the motor seemingly let go exiting 4 smoking all the way down the front straight then into flames in turn 1. He pulls it into the hot pit area and escapes the flame. Amazingly, his crew does some work and he gets back in the car and rejoins the field and finishes a strong 4th with the fire extinguisher dust all over the front of the car. Oakes claimed the victory with Densman in second then a solid third for Michael Moseley then Schroat and Mereda Major finishing in the top 5.

A respectable showing of 14 Limited Modifieds came out next as Craig Oakes and Hunter Flanagan would pace them to green. Oakes looking for a sweep coming right off his Street Stock win pulls out to the early lead with Cody Leonard hot on his trail. Eddy Ross, Flanagan and Randy Bennett the early top 5. The duo of Oakes and Leonard pulled away and Ross seemingly running hot laps by his lonesome in third as a pack was battling it out for fifth with Bennett, Mickey Helms, Trice Hermes and Nicky Hardcastle with Jordon Glass in the mix. As we saw in the Pure Stocks, lap traffic became a factor in the Limited Modifieds as well when C. Leonard captured the lead after contact with Oakes and Glass. Oakes will get a chance to regain the lead after a yellow when the 51 car of Danny Ingram rolled to a stop at the top of turn 4. The contact with Glass may have broke a left front part on Oakes has it was shaking violently the last few laps but holds on to the second place finish. Leonard, Oakes, Ross, Helms (impressive charge from 12th to 4th) and Flanagan holds on for 5th.

Limited Late Models only had 4 making the call for the feature and most of the race was a two car race between Ron Sprague and Frank Okruhlik, Landon Farquer then John Owens. Unfortunately for Okruhlik his bid for a victory ended as something let go exiting 2 on the final lap and Sprague inherited the lead and victory.

The final race of the night was the Modifieds as 8 hit the track for the evening finale. Jeff Moore and Cody Leonard leading the field to green. This race would belong to Leonard as he jumped out to the early lead and never looked back, completing the Limited Modified and Modified sweep. The battle for second between Hunter Flanagan and Jamie Campbell was the best race on the track in this event as they challenged each other for several laps.
