Mr. Excitement 40 Tribute to Terry Belcher this Weekend at CSP

Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (November 3, 2014) Three blockbuster weekends of racing action is all that remains of the 2014 season at Canyon Speedway Park.

And it all begins this weekend with the Mr. Excitement 40 Tribute to Terry Belcher atop the 1/3-mile clay oval featuring the West Coast vs. CDM Super Late Models along with IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks and Renegades on both Friday and Saturday night.

Both nights of racing action will get under way at 7:00 p.m. following an open practice session on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The Mr. Excitement 40 kicks off three consecutive big weekends with the 14th Annual USAC Hose Advantage Hall of Classic featuring the USAC National Sprint Cars season finale to follow on November 14-15 and then the 47th Annual Sands Chevrolet USAC Western World Championships with USAC National Midgets and USAC Southwest vs. USAC West Coast Sprint Cars on November 20-22.

This weekends Mr. Excitement 40 Tribute to Terry Belcher puts the West Coast Super Late Models on center stage at CSP for the first time since Don Shaw took Copper on Dirt honors on February 28.

Steve Drake swept through both nights of Mr. Excitement 40 action last year before finishing fifth in the Copper on Dirt earlier this year. Drake is the current West Coast Late Models points leader, though not by much as Clay Daly is just one point back entering this weekends West Coast Late Models season finale with Tony Toste only ten points out of the lead in third.

While Drake tries to defend Mr. Excitement 40 honors in the Late Model ranks, Mark Stewart and Jason Noll will attempt the same in IMCA Modified action after splitting victory honors last year.

Stewart has been denied victory lane at CSP this year while Noll has a pair of wins, including the most recent Modified outing on September 20.

IMCA Modified victory lane at CSP this year has been virtually owned by Ricky Thornton, Jr., who has topped 12 of 16 overall features in 2014. Thornton, Jr., also has a pair of West Coast Late Model triumphs to his credit this season.

Matt Martinez has topped a half-dozen Pure Stock features including the most recent event on October 18 that made him the fifth different winner in the most recent handful of events, while Joe Peterson and Paul OConnor are the only drivers able to post repeat wins in 11 Renegade features this year.

Tickets to this weekends Mr. Excitement 40 Tribute to Terry Belcher are $18 on Friday and $22 on Saturday for adults with children 7-12 just $10 each night. Children 6 and under are admitted free. VIP Suite passes are available for $25 on Friday and $30 on Saturday with All Access Passes available for $35 on Friday and $40 on Saturday.
