Millican defends IHRA Texas Nationals crown

Recommended Posts

Here's some short recaps, I'll get the full stories done tomorrow or Tues. SASpeedracer, may have gotten good pics of the crash which should make him famous nationwide.

Clay Millican successfully backed his 2003 Amalie Oil Texas Nationals Top Fuel Dragster win taking a bye run victory. Millican who set a new track speed and ET record in quarterfinals got the solo pass after Bruce Litton crashed hard after completing his semifinal winning pass.

Litton had just run a 4.817 second, 302.69 MPH blast when he expolded a left rear tire just past the finish line. The shreadding tire took out the wing sending him hard into the concrete barrier. The car careened off the wall and rolled onto its side sliding down the track until it made contact with the opposite wall.

After a few minutes Litto was awake, alert and talking to the IHRA medical response team, complete with trauma doctor. After having to be cut from the car Litton was life-flighted to BAMC to undergo tests. Litton passed all tests and was released an hour later suffering only a concussion.

Litton, who remembers nothing from the time he rolled into the water box till the he was talking to IHRA doctors, he even been cleared to race at IHRA's next event in Rockingham. IHRA says the Hadman Chassis Litton was driving was a factor in his survival. The car is built with great integrity where needed, along with break away points to help disperse energy in a crash of this magnitude.

In Pro Modified it was surprise winner, 16th qualifier Glen Kerunsky beating number one qualifier Harold Martin. Kerunsky posted a 6.275 @ 218.94 MPH.

Five time IHRA Funny Car World Champion, put a hole shot on top qualifier Rob Atchison to grab the win. Thomas got almost .04 advantage running a 5.897 @ 239.40 to Atchisons losing 5.870.

John Montecalvo cut a .027 light to take another hole shot win as he left John Nobile tied to the tree. Montecalvo ran a 6.556 @ 213.40 to a 6.542 by Nobile.
