Rookie1
If you are required to run a 15+ lb flywheel, and a stock 10 1/2 inch clutch, is there any advantage to a manual transmission vs a powerglide?
Nathan
I would say yes. the rotating weight is greater for the automatic when running a stock converter than that of a stock clutch. the standard transmission is also more responsive than the automatic is. even though you put the transmission the high gear it still slips a little as the fluid pressure builds up. xcellracing
unless you are not required to run a stock converter.
Truck38
You know circle track magazine or stock car racing magazine had an article about manual vs automatic and they said that if you have a good "racing" converter because they lock up faster and better than OEM and that they automatic would have similar response time and less rotating weight but that it really depeneded on the rules for the manual transmission and converter. I'll try and find it and let you know what magazine & issue it was in...
