car05
Does anyone know what, if anything THR street stock cars would have to change to run the sportsman class at SAS Octoberfast?
NickHolt
car05, See the post entitled, "NEED HELP ON INTERPRITATION OF OCTOBERFAST RULES" Mike Sepich, General Manager of SAS answered a question similar to yours in that thread. car05
That post actually applies to TSRS, THR Late Models, SAS Late Models. I am asking about THR Street Stock and SAS Sportsman, but thanks for the info. Thanks MC
SASPEEDRACER24
If Im not mistaken you can run with not changes but must conform to your THR rules... I will double check with Mike just to be certain.
44SS
Marc, the THR Hobby stock rules apply to be able to run Octoberfast, I think they would consider a Street Stock a hybred. Go to press releases under Octoberfast schedule.
SASPEEDRACER24
Like I said let me check with Mike and see what we can do... Mike handed me the sheet that had that info here at work but I couldnt remember which was which...I know he follows these threads so he may be on to let everyone know exactly what he will allow and what he wont. Just as a curiousity what are the differances between the Hobby Stocks and the Street Stocks? I noticed a spoiler on the Stocks so I imagine erverything else is engine and suspension related. Colt15
44ss. How is a kyle hobby stock similar to a sas sportman??? they run caprices in hobby stock in kyle. I would think that the kyle street stocks (camaros and novas) would beable to run with the sas sportman there basically the same cars. -Colt
44SS
Colt15, I was just passing on what i read in the Octoberfast schedule, purse and rules thread in the press release and results forum. becka29
the sas sportsmen class have to stock mount shocks. same size rate and number of coil springs in the front and in the rear. no adjustable spacers or weight jackers. weight 3400 pounds. rwracing10
If the rulles are the same as last year I had to add 320pounds to be legal wanted to do it this year but could not see that much differance did not seem fair. RW
Mel
A glimpse at a few differences in rules on SAS Sportsman and THR Streets: Tires Ride Height 4-1/2" 5" Weight 3300 3400 Rear Ends F/C stock mt. OEM only Crank 48 50 Intake ? 2101 Carb 500 350 Cam open 333 max lift Rocker Arms roller tips ok stamped steel only Heads 62cc min 68cc min There is quite a few differences, but for this special event there should be some way to bring these 2 classes together. Sure would be nice to see the pits in SA as full as they were at THR this weekend. Also CC Super Streets class should fit in there somewhere. Truck99
Hey Marc, The way they have it set up right now is that THR Hobby Stocks can run with their Sportsman cars under the THR hobby stock rules - no changes required. If a street stock was going to run with them, you would have to run under the SAS Sportsman rules which would include a bunch of changes. The ones that come to mind are no lowering blocks in the rear, Edlebrock intake, camshaft, ride height, springs, carburetor, minimum weight, left side weight. I'm sure there are others. All in one week. Sounds like a lost cause for a THR street stock. Hell, let's just go sit in the stands and drink some beer! Chase
SASPEEDRACER24
Chase good run in both of the Street Stock races and that was some great racing to watch... I should have pictures of you guys that I am going to send to Mr. Callaway. If anyone has a way to contact him it would be greatly appreciated. hobby74
just a question do the Hobby stocks have a chance down there with there class? I am thinking about going down there with my car with a gear change and run it like it is. That is this weekend correct? Thanks Jay
Truck99
Jay, Look over the previous posts in this thread. You can run your Hobby Stock as is w/the chargers. cs

matt5858
I dont think that the sportsman class can run camelhump heads. They can not run ford 9'' rearends either. For any Hobby stock going, GOOD LUCK!!!. We tried it last year and got our ass beat bad.

Truck99
What's the latest on this? I heard the rumor again today that SAS is going to let the THR street stocks run with a weight penalty. Can anyone tell us for sure? cs
Truck99
Apparently the "no hybrids" part of the SAS rules were reconsidered. At least one THR street stock competeted in the Sportsman class last night, driven by Colt James. I'm glad to see Colt get to run the 05 car, but it would have been nice for SAS to let people know that their rules had changed. If they would have let people know that THR street stocks were allowed (contrary to their printed rules), they probably would have had more than 1 show up. cs
TxRaceFan
You know - there's a difference between being INVITED to run, and being allowed to run. Personally, since there's "No place like Home", all the Kyle Boys who caused such long delays are more than welcome to stay at home next year. This applies to street stocks, TAMS, and Trucks. Maybe you can take the drivers out of Thunderhill, but you can't seem to take Thunderhill out of the drivers.
