  1. Quarter Midget Racer from late '50s, Bubba Nolan also raced Bronco Stock Cars at Meyer Spdwy/Houston in about '67/'68. Later, he worked with the Tony Bettenhausen/VitaFresh Racing Team, and also the H B Bailey/Almeda Auto Parts Race Team. In the Texas Racing History/Meyer Spdwy pics 2 section, one of the early '70s era pictures shows a person in the background that looks very much like Harold "Bubba" Nolan. However, I don't have any present, nor over the last 20+ yrs, knowledge about Bubba Nolan.
  2. I guess I'm not firing on all three cylinders, that Lippy reference flew past me. Maybe Jakdad knows.
  3. I think Beau's Dad is Roy Smith. Roy raced Broncos and Late Models, I think. J C Smith sounds cobweb familiar, but I don't think all those Smith guys were related. At least not to each other. Wasn't Baton Rouge a 5/8 mile? I saw a Late Model Race there, and they went kinda fast.
  4. The # 8 Car pictured at Meyer Spdwy/Houston is a late '60s era Modified/Modified Stock Car, with what appears like a modified late '50s Ford body. The gentleman squatting down on the left side looks like Bill Brashear. Looking into the car from the left side is Charlie Schild, and behind Charlie is Larry Schild. Most likely, Larry Schild is the driver, at least at the time of the picture. Not that I recall Buddy. I remember three Modifieds he drove that were # 55, that car is not one of them. But, it could be one I missed.
  5. Tom, I have never seen the Jackson track, but the turn four picture looks different than Meyer Spdwy/Houston.
  6. Is there a google map of the old Pan American Speedway location?
  7. Some great pictures. We took a Houston "Stock Car " to Pan American Speedway in the mid 60s for a 200 Lap July 4th race. When we saw Waldo Harper's wide tired winged Ford, we thought we were at a Modified Stock Car event. Out of about 6 cars from Houston in '66, only 2 qualified. Luckily, Mel Newkirk's 2 car driven by Tracy Trotter was one of them. The other Houston car, number 44 driven by Delbert Ready, qualified 29th and car number 2, Tracy Trotter qualified 31st out of 32 allowed in the race. As I recall, the last 2 rows were a lap down behind Jimmy Finger and Waldo Harper when those 2 rows took the green flag to start the race.
