Eventful first night of racing.  The top 2 trucks got dq'd for motors and the 3rd place guy too much left side.   Awesome man, I wonder how many didnt get caught because they were not up front?  I'll bet they were not the only two motor cheaters.

There is also rumors from other teams of tire prep. They took samples and sent to be tested by a 3rd party lab.

I think they run them at five flags speedway,

Yes Tim they do run at Pensacola, Bobby Santos sat on the pole with a 13.812.  Harrison Burton sat on the pole of the Snowball last year with a 16.273.

If I'm not mistaken and maybe Rodney could confirm this but I think when the Midgets ran at THR they qualified faster than the Super Latemodels.

However, I relish in the thought of other Racing Series on Special Events from time to time at HMP. The TALMS Sport Mods, The old ASA series that would come once or twice back in the Day.  I know that a 100 lap Super Late Model weekend event would go over pretty good.

The Sprint cars on a tight 3/8 mile high-banked Asphalt race track,  HMP has no safer barriers …. those Concrete walls ARE NOT Forgiving and are very Hard....The catch fences are not High enough either.....

As Bobby Stated, Not very Pretty....   HMP is a perfect Stock Car race track....A 30 car / 200 lap Sports Mod race would pretty  good racing event for HMP to Host.

Maybe a 300 lap Bomber "Enduro Race" may be pretty good as well too....with pit stops on a real pit -lane...Hummm….

A Super Late Model race event could be good as well !!!

We will see how things go....

I cant believe some of you.  Here is something that is exciting and will probably be a good show and we want to knock it down. They ran USAC Midgets at Thunderhill twice and they had no safer barriers or a different catch fence.  They run the wing sprint series in the Southeast at all the asphalt tracks no safer barriers and normal catch fences. People wonder why race tracks shut down.  I know the promoter of the Elite Series and he did his homework before scheduling this race. He did a lot of talking to the sprint car racers in Indiana and the south east that run on asphalt. These racers that run this race will have to spend some money as they will have to order all new sets of tires, different front hubs and wheels. But knowing Nathan and these racers they will put on a good show. I guess this has to do with the fact that they scheduled a sprint car race but still haven't done anything about the street stocks.

    Stand behind your track folks.

  4. I saw the 2020 Schedule for the ASCS Elite Non-Wing series as it was released yesterday.  There was an interesting race that caught my eye as their last race of the year.

October 31,2020 Houston Motorsports Park,  yep they are going to run a Non Wing Asphalt race.  That should be an amazing racing at the facility.

  5. I figured it up yesterday between Kyle Busch, Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney. Just looked at their points during the playoffs not counting their entry points from the regular season. NASCAR is getting what they want with awarding the winners.

    KB-296 Points

    KL-296 Points

    RB-275 Points

  6. I think they need to revamp the points a little bit.  Kyle Busch made the final four solely on what he did in the regular season,  He had a very lackluster playoffs,  I think they need to reset the points after the first round.

It is a strange comparison … while the dirt tracks continue to operate

ALL TEXAS ASPHALT TRACKS ARE CLOSED. Many have been plowed under and will never race again.

The only exception is Houston Motorsports Park with eight scheduled races in 2019.

(4 races were run, 3 were cancelled due to rain).

This is sadly true because my organizations raced at all Texas asphalt tracks hundreds of times before closure.

I think that has a lot to do with the fact I could go take modified, sport mod, stock car and pretty much go to any dirt track and race on Saturday night.  With my asphalt car I could only run at the one track because for a long time there in the late 90's and early 2000's none of the asphalt tracks had common rules.

  9. What was reported on twitter is that Menard decided to step away but told the Wood Brothers to put Matty D in the car.  The good thing is the alliance between the Wood Brothers and Penske is a lot better alignment than the LFR and Gibbs deal.  Now when Bell gets in the car at LFR I wouldn't be surprised if Bell gets better equipment than Matty D ever thought about having in that car.  But with this alignment, Matty's driving, sponsorship, team and equipment do not be surprised if you see the 21 car in Victory Lane best chance since Blaney was there.

These guys are not like Tyler Dippel who wasn't even allowed to cross the border into Canada because rumor is it was drug related issue and was pulled over at the border on the NY side trying to cross into Canada.

Well more is coming out on this and looks like Dippel might be in the clear. He was arrested for having prescription drugs that were not his after someone left their bag in his car.  The cop didn't believe he was a racecar driver and that he looked wore out because he had been racing all weekend. Because he was the operator of the vehicle he was arrested. The friend who left his bag in the car confessed that was his bag and he left it there.  Dippel passed a random drug test at Bristol and then took a voluntary test right after being arrested and passed.  So he should be cleared of all this.

Since the consequences are so high,  Nascar owes it to its members to properly educated them on what is out there.  They put this out there in the public when you get suspended.  My guess is half of them get suspended that didnt even know what they were taking had banned substances.   I just think that a little more effort could be put in by the Sanctioning body to keep the members better educated on it.  I mean, making a policy without thoroughly educated the member can ruin someones life, by accident.

Perhaps better awareness on behalf of the sanctioning body would be much better than taking some of this stuff public.

I hate to admit it but I agree with Tim here.  Educating these drivers about the things you would not expect to fail a test and what it is in or could be in so these drivers stay away.  Now this is just me speculating they could be doing this already and we just don't know.

Rules are rules. If NASCAR considers something to be banned it is up to the drivers and crews to determine what is in the items they partake in. It is not up to NASCAR to tell you this contains this and this contains this. How are they to know where it actually came from? In my opinion Curry and Borland did not do anything intentional. They just didn't pay attention to what was in their work out and coffee.

I don't disagree that rules are rules and you can probably look at the workout supplement Bayley was taking and see this stuff, but a diet coffee drink you would probably not expect to have this stuff in it.  What I want to know is if they tested Matt D, Denny, Kyle, Kevin, Clint the big names of the sport and they had this come up if the would suspend them as well.  I honestly think its who you are in the sport determines if you get suspended or not.

  13. Matt Borland crew chief for Germain Racing just got popped for basically the same thing.  Except his was DMAA in his diet coffee he was drinking.  He had it tested to find out what it was exactly.  I personally think this is a little ridiculous.  Its almost like the Olympics these guys are getting popped for stuff they don't even realize is in what they are taking.  Its not an illicit drug are they going to have to start screening everything they put in their body?

These guys are not like Tyler Dippel who wasn't even allowed to cross the border into Canada because rumor is it was drug related issue and was pulled over at the border on the NY side trying to cross into Canada.

  14. Here's what needs to be done, forget about trying to add a dirt crossover.  Finish out the rest of the season and then sit back after the last race and revaluate the classes.  Then sit back and restructure the classes.  Do what you can to get the most cars in a class.  This might irritate some people but if they really want to race they will find a way to make their car fit in the rules.

I disagree. There are an abudance of Sport Mods (Limited Modifieds) in existence. Many of them are not owned by cheaters who spend $10,000+ on an open chambered motor that should cost about $3,500, $15,000 chassis, with $1,000 shocks. Those guys (The cheaters) can stay at the dirt track with the other cheaters. The honest guys who want to run in an affordable series can bring their Legitimate Sport Mods to HMP, and put on a good show for a loyal fan base.

I think you missed what I was saying, I agree there is an abundance of Sport Mods but I said you have to make it worth their while to switch over from dirt to asphalt.  I didn't say anything about "cheaters" or money costs.  I just mentioned your going to have to make this purse worth it for them to switch.  Bobby got where I was going with this post, why make a bigger purse for a class that might bring some cars when you can reinvest in the classes you already have and try to get more.  Also the dirt track fan base is pretty loyal as well.  I always see the same people at the different race tracks we travel to.

The Sport Mod boys showed up at Kyle and there are hundreds and hundreds of them out there.

I am not going to deny this but look at who the racers were that showed up.  The racers that showed up were already racing asphalt at Kyle there was not a whole lot of crossover racers.  The changes are a little more than minimal, your going to have to lower ride heights and center of gravity, look at your standard setups on dirt sport mod.  Those setups would not work on asphalt.  The only way its going to work is purse you have to make them want to do it.  If you throw out the same purse as what they can get staying on a dirt track, why would you change it over.

In all honesty Tim just think about it if you had a sport mod lets say your based out San Antonio. Your car is setup to run dirt at I-37 and you have been running good there.  You also occasionally travel to STS, Texana, CBS.  You know that at your local track you win your getting $450, you can travel to the other tracks on an off night and your getting the same.  HMP puts on a race for sport mods and they are paying $450 to win as well.  Where are you going to go race? Somewhere where you have to change your setup completely up, plus buy tires, or are you going to go somewhere where you know you just have to unload not change a thing and go have fun?

That's why I'm saying if they are going to do it they are going to have to make it worth their while to make the changes and spend the money to come race there.  I'm not disagreeing with you that the cars are there, there is a lot of them you just have to make it worth their while to do it.

  17. Factory Stocks and Limited Mods have equal rules at all tracks across Texas for the most part.  I could take a Factory Stock and go run I-37, Texana, STS, Waco, CBS all tracks in South Texas.  Same thing with the Limited Mods.  The rules are set, the main thing you would need to look at it is Purse.  Your going to have to make the purse worth while for these racers to come from dirt to asphalt.  These guys are racers and are used to racing every week.  These guys will travel but you have to make it worth it.  You have to ask yourself this question.  Why would I want to go run asphalt in Houston when I can go run dirt at such in such track for same purse if not better, I'm not gonna tear up tires, have to completely change setup and just the extra expenses of having to travel to Houston and be at the track all day long?

These are the two best options for a dirt/asphalt crossover but will you get the racers out there? Maybe a couple but I don't think you will get a whole lot.

  18. Well I have to give Bayley credit, most people that have this issue don't say anything or their publicists spin in around.  He admitted to what it was, which to me is nothing serious, like an illicit drug or alcohol.
