old 60's racers from Pennsylvania

the driver, who is on the right side, was Jim Minton, who raced around here north of Pittsburgh in the 1960s. The other fellow is Jon Renno, who owned the car. I was still in Florida in 1963 when this photo was taken, as I didn’t come back here until early 1966 when I got off active duty with the navy. I think I saw the car race once when I was up to visit my parents in the summer of 1963. The car was a front runner and won some races, as did it’s replacement, a Chevy II bodied car with a straight axel that won one of the first races at Lernerville in the fall of 1967, but with a different driver. The car is sitting in front of a PENNZOIL gas station that was located on West Jefferson St. in town for many years but long gone now. Many people from other parts of the country don’t realize that we had PENNZOIL gas stations here in western PA. Also QUAKER STATE, KENDALL and WOLF’S HEAD, However all but the Kendall refinery are shut down now and the Kendall company is no longer around. Shell owns both the PENNZOIL & QUAKER STATE brands today and others own KENDALL & WOLF’S HEAD brands as well.

I sent all your questions and comments to my friend Walt Wimer in Pennsylvania who is a race car historian

and well respected in that part of the country. I am sure he will address all the questions and comments

you had and I will post them up when I receive them. Thanks for your continued interest! He sends me stuff

all the time from Pennsylvania and I post the best ones.

Here are all your answers folks:

Sure do know Don Gamble!!! We have been friends for 40 some years!! And I used to do a segment on his radio show for quite a few years!! And we are in regular contact....you two have read each other’s jokes and political posts!! Glenn Gault, again a big YES!! Went to his wedding around 40 years ago!! His dad was a great guy, but has been gone for many years. He drove the “original” Orange Blossom Special”, a flathead Ford coupe!! And Ted Wise as well. He won a lot of Sprint Car races around here, but went back to the old coupe days of the 50s-60s!! Passed away maybe some 8-10 years ago.

Don Gamble and his ex-wife introduced my parents; without him there would be no me. LOL

My dad used to crew on his cars in the 70's.

1971 Motordrome Speedway in Ruffsdale, PA. Rich was the Crew Chief. We won the feature that night. It was the final race at the track. In 1972 the Motordrome 70 Speedway replaced this one.
