Budman
Here's a question I must admit I don't know the answer to, but I've been curious about for quite some time. In the 40's, 50's and 60's there were two brothers in Austin who were very active in auto racing, especially in the Austin/San Antonio area. Their names are Ernest and Weldon Stewart. Ernest went by the nickname "Tubby". Weldon was the original pit steward at Austin Speed-o-rama for A.B. and Louis Wusterhausen. Robert Stewart currently drives a street stock at THR, Alvin Stewart drives a late model, and Heath drives a USRA SLM. Are these current drivers any relation to the two brothers I mentioned above? Just curious. Edited September 17, 2005 by Budman
junior
the parents of the Stewarts you are talking about owned and operated what at the time was a first class motel on S. Congress in the 40's and early 50's, Jud Larson drove a car for Tubby at one time, one of the Middleton twins will probably come on here and can provide more information than I can. Tubby was still around not too long ago,
Budman
I can remember as a kid, dad would take me with him to the Austin Motel coffee shop. We'd sit at the counter, eat and talk with Tubby all about what was going on with racing at the time.
