Big crash ends night early

Pleasanton, Texas., The night’s schedule of racing was abruptly halted Friday night after Ziggy Reusser took a wild ride on the front stretch that brought an end the nights events. All the action took place in the Limited Late Model feature just past halfway. At the start of the 15 lap race, Landon Farquar had his car sputter and get run over by MK Wallace. Farquar collected Dennis Hilla, with Reusser, Anthony Malhorin and Carl Dyer getting tangled in the back up.

MK Wallace got the lead on lap 1 but pushed high in turn 4 allowing Dennis Hilla to get by low to lead lap 2. Hilla would get sideways giving Wallace the chance to get back along side. In the meantime, Jed Rollins and Reusser were working their way up. Rollins got past Hilla for the top spot on lap 5, with Reusser getting third on lap 6 after rubbing with Wallace.

At halfway it was Rollins, Hilla, Reusser, Wallace and Howie Marcx rounding out the top five with Rollins motoring away. Reusser and Wallace continued to battle for third swapping the spot and more paint. On lap 9, Reusser, who apparently had a tire going down, got high coming out of turn 4. Reusser caught the wall and got catapulted up into the catch fence. After nearly turning over, Reusser’s car shot back across the track and collected defending champ and current points leader, Gary Hunter. Fortunately neither driver suffered injuries.

Unfortunately, the damage to the fence was so severe that the officials were forced to postpone the remainder of the show for safety concerns. Despite under normal circumstances that would have considered the show complete, the track management decided to allow fans to bring their ticket stubs back next week for half off admission.

The 15 lap Pure Stock feature saw points leader Alan Torres lead lap 1. Young Devin Adler got by Torres on lap 2 and began to pull away from the pack. A late race caution rebunched the field, but no one had anything for Adler who would run back off to take the victory.
