The Motorsports Zone moving to Saturdays on The Zone

The Motorsports Zone, a weekly one-hour motor sports show that broadcasts every Sunday at 10 a.m. CT (11 a.m. ET) on KVET-AM 1300 (Austin, TX), will move to Saturday mornings starting July 2nd in the same time slot.

The programming move was made to fill the gap at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning once “The Hoop Zone” finishes its run this Saturday (June 25). The Motorsports Zone show is hosted by Chuck Licata, who is joined by Ric Clark of San Antonio with Jay Hallas (Kerrville) joining the show for The Mr. Jim Dirt & Drag Racing Report.

“We’re happy that Trey Poston (KVET-AM program director) came and offered us the Saturday morning shot,” Licata stated. “The biggest complaint about our show is that we broadcast on Sundays when most people are in church. Now, a lot more folks will be able to hear us live, both on the air and via audio streaming on the Internet.”

Licata said there would be a couple of changes in programming.

“First of all, the great folks at Texasspeedzone.com have been very helpful to the growth of the show, especially this year. So, we feel its only right to name one of our segments – The Starting Lineup – for Texaspeedzone. The segment, which runs off the top of the show, will now be known as ‘The Texasspeedzone.com Starting Lineup.’ We hope this shows our appreciation to the web site for their help with our show.”

Licata added, “Once we make the move to Saturdays, we’re going to add in a segment at 10:25 called, ‘Who’s Racing Today at a Local Track.’ The idea is to talk to any driver from a local series in Texas – such as the United States Racing Association, the Texas Super Racing Series – or a driver from a local class at a local track – such as Thunder Hill Raceway, San Antonio Speedway, Houston Motorsports Park or Corpus Christi Motor Speedway, for example – who’s getting geared up to take his or her car out to the track. The Saturday time slot will allow us to bring our listeners even more news and information from the Texas racing scene.”

Currently, Saturday mornings on KVET-AM are full of live local programming. The morning starts with T.J. Greaney and “The Outdoor Zone” from 6-8 a.m. CT, followed by “That’s Golf” with Jim Apfelbaum, a noted writer and golf historian. “Only an Hour with Marc Hoenig” hits the air at 9 a.m., soon to be followed by The Motorsports Zone at 10 a.m. The lineup of live, local shows ends with “Baseball Saturday,” featuring Kevin Dunn and KVET-AM Program Director Trey Poston.

The Motorsports Zone is in its third year of broadcast on KVET-AM, the flagship station for University of Texas athletics, and can be heard via audio stream at www.sportsradio1300.com
