rebelracewriter Posted June 4, 2023 Report Share Posted June 4, 2023 Huge(Planned) Night of Racing @ I-37 Speedway, 6-3-23 By JM Hallas Pleasanton, TX.,(June 3rd, 2023) So lets see, 7 classes, Go-Karts(double points night) and….A full moon. What could go wrong, right? That's right after a couple weeks off/rain out, it was time again to get back on track Saturday night at I-37 Speedway, the ¼ mile, semi-banked dirt oval a half hour south of San Antonio. The Late Model were back for another $1,000 to win show, after losing a show to the rain, plus the regular I-37 Speedway classes; IMCA Modifieds, Limited Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Sport Compacts, throw in the new Fireball class and plus a double points night for the Go-Karts. For the IMCA Modifieds it was race #3 of the Royal Rumble mini-series paying $1,000 to win. Late race cautions in the previous two events set up shootouts to the checkers. The initial race saw Chris Morris make a rare mistake coming to the white flag, pushing up the track giving way to eventual winner Dillon Tindall. Round two was Deja Vu of sorts as another late restart saw Morris challenged again, this time by Tanner Whitmire. Morris went mistake free on the green, white, checkered finish to snag the win over Whitmire. The top four in series points are just as tight with Morris having only a single marker on Tindall, Whitmire in third two back and Logan Dinsmore fourth six behind Morris with sixth through twelfth only separated by 7 points OK, so what could go wrong? Alright, who had power outage and rain/storms on their bingo card? Yep, it started with a power issue for the tower, flagstand and track lights delaying the start. Then Mother Nature chimed in midway through the features with storms rolling into the area canceling the Late Model, Factory Stock and Sport Compact finales. Details to be announced later on rescheduling or not. The drive from the track home was no picnic either. Nogalitos Gear Late Models **Rained Out Late Model heats Heat 1; 48 Raymond McSpadden, 40 Neil Manchester, 53x Matt Fox, 5 Ryan McDonald, 99 Frank Okruhlik, 12d Carl Dyer, 23 Michael Keyich, 78 Eddy Hardage, 1x Andrew Hesler, 57 Jason Kelly Heat 2; 7d Austin Thiess, 3 Ray Doyon III, 5r Ryan Doyon, 7dd David Thiess, 24r Robby Minten, 12 Kody Hardage, 29 Jamie Campbell, 77 Mark Taylor, 5dd DJ Schroat Doyon Dashes to Modified Dollars The 20-lap IMCA Modified, 11-car field sadly took the brunt of the full moon effect. At the start Greg Dinsmore and Tanner Whitmire stayed side by side until G. Dinsmore got the spot coming to complete lap 1. Behind G. Dinsmore were Whitmire, Ryan Doyon, Chris Morris and Logan Dinsmore. With G. Dinsmore and Whitmire duking it out, Doyon jumped past both to lead lap 2. Robert Liese made contact with the front stretch wall for a yellow on lap 3. On the restart Vince Kacir scraped the front stretch wall sending his rear deck cover sailing into the night for a quick yellow. Finally back to green, with Whitmire getting by G. Dinsmore for second while L. Dinsmore was sending it around the top getting by Morris and his dad for third. Morris tried to get under G. Dinsmore, slid up the track, making contact sending them both to the top of turns 3-4 for another slow down on lap 4. The restart saw L. Dinsmore snag second from Whitmire and begin pressuring Doyon for the point when Darrell Boyd spun. Once back to green L. Dinsmore took another look on Doyon low while Morris, rebounding from the tail, got by Dillon Tindall and Jared Maupin for fourth. Tindall would loop it on lap 9 for yet another yellow. Now on a single file restart, L. Dinsmore stuck the nose under Doyon in turn 1 but found no room. A debris caution, the first of two exactly, slowed the pace. Finally, coming to halfway it was Doyon, L. Dinsmore, Whitmire, Morris and Tindall in the top five. Kacir would spin collecting Boyd and William Sellier for, yes, another caution. Officials mercifully shortened the race to a green, white, checkered finish on time limit. As green waved again L. Dinsmore stayed tucked under the rear bumper of Doyon giving Whitmire a run. As they sorted out Tindall and Morris were slugging it out for fourth. Hernandez got crossed up in turn 4 giving up spots to GW Hessong, Alexander, Cody Beddoe and Mikulencak, but got it righted and continued. Titzman quickly put some distance on Alexander and Hessong while Beddoe and Mikulencak battled wheel to wheel for fourth. At halfway it was Titzman, increasing his lead, Hessong, Alexander, Beddoe and Mikulencak in the top five. As the leader caught traffic he still maintained a full straight advantage while Mikulencak got by Beddoe for fourth. A debris caution was the only thing to close the gap on Titzman, who got away on green with Beddoe getting a good run by Mikulencak, Alexander and Hessong for second. The finals lap saw Titzman in the Ace Transmission, Joe Aramendia, Vinco Plumbing, On Demand Shirts, L87 Speedway, “dad built” engine, BMF Chassis pull away again for the victory. Jack made quick work of Paull and Montemayor for third and was able to chase down Miller for second getting the spot just before halfway. At the crossed flags it was Hodge with a comfortable lead, Jack, Miller Montemayor and Paull. With the field now separated out, in a race that ran green to checkers(the only one of the night), Hodge maintained his advantage scoring another win in the Fine Motors, Doves Decals, Parks Engine Service, John Heil Chassis. Fireballs 58 Matthew Hodge, 8 Bobby Jack, 75 Jerry Miller, 18m Joseph Montemayor, 4j JC Paull, 15 William Cavender Fireball heat; 58 Matthew Hodge, 75 Jerry Miller, 4j JC Paull jr., 18m Joseph Montemayor, 8 Bobby Jack, 15 William Cavender Rude Rules in DCRST Shootout The 19-car DCRST feature saw Dillon Spreen get a good launch leading the field into turn 1 chased by Cauy Moore, Chris Ochoa, Dustin Rude and Brandon Spreen. Rude was able to pick off Ochoa for third with B. Spreen following to fourth. A stalled out car slowed the pace for a restart that saw Rude get by C. Moore for second. Rude then caught D. Spreen for the lead and took the top spot on lap 6. D. Spreen hung on to Rude and was able to get back by Rude for the lead on lap 8 while dicing through traffic. At halfway it was D. Spreen, Rude, C. Moore, B. Spreen and Dylan Budnik in the top five. Rude then got back by D. Spreen for the lead on lap 11 as they swapped the spot in the corners. That battle came to an end on lap 12 when Park Vogler spun in front of the lead duo, collecting D. Spreen with hard contact as the he had nowhere to go. Both drivers were checked out under the red, but done for the night. Once back to green, B. Spreen and Budnik got by C. Moore for second and third, but B. Spreen wasn't able to take up the battle with Rude that his brother had. Rude was able to ease away, with Keagan Moore snagging fifth from Ochoa in the closing laps. Rude easily cruised to the checkers.
