rebelracewriter
For Immediate Release/Your Information June 17, 2005 From Bill Martin, I.M.C.A. Public Relations Five different leaders so far in All-Star voting; Faxed ballots no longer accepted for special Modified event BOONE, Iowa (June 17) – The first month of voting saw five different drivers atop the leader board, in balloting for the Lucas Oil All-Star Invita-tional. Jay Noteboom, Henry Witt Jr., Myron DeYoung, Dan Fitzgerald and cur-rently Scott Hogan have taken turns with the highest vote total for the special Modified event, to be held Friday, Sept. 9 during the I.M.C.A. Speedway Motors Super Nationals at Boone Speedway. “We have already received more than 1,900 ballots, after getting 2,541 for all of last year’s All-Star Invitational,” I.M.C.A. Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “The top 10 continues to change daily and balloting has stayed close between the top 30. There were 20 drivers still within 60 votes of 10th place at last count.” Balloting continues through Aug. 1. The starting field of 10 cars in the 10-lap, $1,000 to win race will be announced the following week. Fifty-one drivers from 23 states are on the ballot, published in the Inside I.M.C.A. newsletter and in Hawkeye Racing News. While votes can be mailed to the I.M.C.A. home office or cast by email to RACEIMCA@aol.com, they are no longer being accepted by fax. “Contrary to the rules we announced last month regarding the entire process, several individuals were casting duplicate ballots 20 or more times the same day,” Yoder explained. “That was making it diffi-cult for tracks to fax race results and rainout reports. We can’t sacrifice results for any influx of ballots that aren’t going to be counted.” “Also, we’re asking that emailed or mailed ballots include the name of the person casting them,” he added. “That is another step we’ve taken to verify that ballots are genuine.” This year’s field of All-Star candidates is made up of drivers who won regional, state and special series champion-ships last season, those who won three track champion-ships or 10 or more sanctioned feature events in 2004, and the winners of designated I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modified special events held in 2004 and the first four months of the 2005 race season.
