Aaron Reutzel returns to victory at Plymouth Speedway

- Aaron Reutzel maintained his perfect record with his third win in his third appearance at Plymouth Speedway winning the 35 lap Ollie's Bargain Center All Star Circuit of Champions event Saturday evening.
- Reutzel finished just ahead of Tony Stewart in the ASCoC feature event

PLYMOUTH—Aaron Reutzel knew the way to victory lane Saturday night at Plymouth Speedway. The Clute Texas native has made winning at the “Playground of Power” something of a tradition with his third victory in his three appearances at the track. “This track really suits me,” said Reutzel after the victory.

The Ollie’s Bargain Center All Star Circuit of Champions put on an exciting 35 lap feature in front of a great turnout of racing fans. Indiana’s Tony Stewart made his second start of the weekend returning to racing action and attracted a larger crowd than the World of Outlaw stars that stopped earlier in the season.

Stewart would qualify third behind Reutzel and Australian Ian Madsen, finished second in his heat, a fifth in the dash set his starting position for the feature.

Hunter Scherenberg started on the front row with Reutzel on his outside for the feature. Scherenberg would grab the early lead, trade slide jobs with Reutzel for the first four laps before Reutzel would take command on the top of the track and lead the rest of the way. Stewart would charge to second and pressure Reutzel but wouldn’t be able to get past.

While Saturday’s win was Reutzel’s first in fourteen races he currently leads the series points by 84 over California’s Cory Eliason with Angola Indiana native Zeb Wise in third.

Two points battles were decided Saturday with Austen Hubbard squeaking out a one point season championship in the Thunder Stock division and Josh Lank finishing out the season with a 94 point margin of victory.

Both of these classes had their season championship features rained out last week so they were added to the racing action and rewarded with an extra non-points feature.

Hubbard was leading the feature when it was called for rain so he restarted in the lead and looked to make the points and easy calculation with Lee Hall behind him on the track and in the points. Wally Kerst would make things interesting as he got in the lead and Hubbard was now holding on to keep the championship. Lee would get past Hubbard for second but the third place finish was just enough for Hubbard to win the season.

James Headley would run away with both Mini Stock features and Josh Lank would finish third in the make up feature, fourth in the bonus feature and sealed the season championship with 360 points.

The speedway will be quiet for a couple weekends until the NRA 360 winged sprints show on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Sharing the track with the sprint cars will be the Super Streets and Thunder Stocks. Pit passes will be $35, General Admission for adults is $25, kids 6-12 $5 and race fans 5 and under are FREE. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., Hot Laps start at 5:30 p.m. with racing getting underway at 6:30 p.m.
