Just a Question

What is the most affordable, best class to get started in besides a bomber-type car? In other words, what is the most economical, total cost form of auto racing (if one exists)? Want to start hopefully next season, but am undecided on what type to buy when able.

If you're not concerned about points, Trucks if you don't want to travel. Then you're only paying to repair a truck every 4/5(?) weeks before the next race in your area.

@ THR, you could "claim" a grand stock for... a grand... and that would be a good way to get a 'taste' of racing. Sure it's not the 'sleekest' and fastest, but it's a way to try your hand at the sport for only a grand. I could be wrong, but if you claim a decent car, more than likely it would be claimed back the next week, so you may not even be out the grand; just some fuel and maybe tires.

Texas Pro Sedans or Allison Legacys are two fairly inexpensive ways to get into racing at a level more technically demanding than running a bomber or Grand car.

The Allison Legacy are spec cars ("cookie cutter" cars) but put a premium on driving style as opposed to engineering ability. They all look alike except for the paint.

TPS teams build their cars from the ground up for the most part. Under TPS rules you can run a wide variety of brands (foreign-domestic) , engine combinations (air cooled-water cooled or, frames (stock- tubular), carbs, etc., and still be TPS legal. Some of the Pro Sedans are really mini-Late Models while others are pretty much OEM stock with a full roll cage. This class is really fun for anyone who likes to play around with different combinations and test their fabrication/engineering skills.

Texas Thunder Cars at CC Speedway are the most econimical real race cars period! You can spend a lot if you want to but you dont need to.If you start with a Japaneese or European car,the engine is the least expensive part because they well built with good metal. Its just a matter of finding the best combinations of pieces.Keeping the bodies stock and suspension parts not aftermarket it allows the builder to use his imagination without spending money. And using things like tires to keep the competition closer rather than specific engine rules actually keeps cost down by using what you have rather than souping up spec. parts. And the claimer rule ensures that nobody will "buy the wins "by spending too much. The best part is the friendship Thunder Car people develop and help each other without having to resort to fights and intimidation like some of the big car people do.
