ffmedic42
Hello all, I'm starting the planning and budgeting phase of getting back into racing. I have some questions for the modified drivers. Engines- Crate engines: How many nights can you get out of one before a rebuild? Are the crates good in wet or only dry track? Claim engine: Will a normal IMCA claim engine compete with the USMTS when they come to town? Do engines get claimed? Does it happen regularly? Tires- How many nights can you get out of the tires with sanding and siping? Thanks in advance Jeremie
Wayne Walker
If you know Greg Densmore, he would be a good one to ask. He is competitive in wet and dry with his 604. The tires depends on the track. If it's abrasive or rubbered up, and your setup is way off, you may only get one or two nights out of a RR. They can last all season on some tracks that stay fairly wet through the night. I don't think a legal claim motor is strong enough on a heavy track. This also depends on the size of the track. For example, at the old Texas Thunder, the IMCA motors had a chance. At Royal Purple, no chance. On a dry track, they can be competitive. The USMTS teams have advantages over IMCA because of the tires and shocks, among other things.
ffmedic42
Thank you Wayne for the information. I don't know Greg. If I meet him I will be sure to ask.
Wayne Walker
Forgot to add, down here, there is little to no claiming. The last motor claim I remember in the Mods was at Texas Thunder about 8 years ago.
