rebelracewriter
Saturday afternoon opener for Hill Country Raceway MOUNTAIN HOME, Texas (March 29) – Hill Country Raceway gets the 2005 season started with a Saturday afternoon, April 2 program that features I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds. Pit gates open at noon, with hot laps following the drivers’ meeting and racing at 3 p.m. “I think we’re going to have a really good season this year,” predicted new promoter Sonny Jones, who will continue as head tech man at the 1/4 mile clay speedplant. ”We’ve been doing just about everything under the sun to get ready for the season. We want to build our car counts and I know we’ve got a number of drivers moving up to new classes.” Jones’ wife Collene is in charge of the pit area. New fencing and gates have been installed, he said, as have fuel stands. Sportsman, street stock and rookie purse stock classes will join the sanctioned Modifieds on weekly programs through Sept. 3. Texas super coupes run once or twice a month, with specials for sprints or dwarf cars on the schedule as well. Starting times will be adjusted with the resumption of Daylight Savings Time. New poles are already in place and Hill Country will hold evening programs when the last of the lights are installed and all the electrical connections made.
