rebelracewriter
24 of the 38 IMCA Modifieds started the 25 lap A-main, led to green by Jimmy Fletcher and Charlie Harmon with Sunday series and National points leader Henry Witt in the third row. Fletcher got the early lead as the pack battled two wide from 6th on back. On lap 3 Varian Sisson broke, while running third and stacked up the pack. Max Eddie Thomas spun in the pack and stopped while Sisson rolled to the infield. On the restart Tim Clonch was pressuring Fletcher, while Glen Hibbard grabbed third and Glen Allen worked up to ninth from his 10th row start. On lap 8 Clonch moved up to the high side and was able to grab the lead, as he and Fletcher started to build a lead. Lap 9 saw the caution fly when PJ Egbert, Keith McCullough, Jochum Schievink got tangled, sending Allen through the infield, while running in the pack for 8th-12th. Back under green Witt, C. Harmon and Darryl Campbell were three wide for fouth, as the top three of Clonch, Fletcher and Hibbard moved away. Clonch then started to motor ahead when Hibbard and Fletcher fought it out for second. This allowed Witt to close in on both as the race aproached halfway. As the crossed flags were shown it was Clonch, Fletcher, Hibbard, Witt and C. Harmon in the top five. Clonch was still pulling ahead as Hibbard was putting the heat on Fletcher, while trying to hold off Witt, as the trio ran nose to tail. Campbell and Billy Garza moved around C. Harmon into fifth and sixth with five to go. Garza would get spun to the infield in 3-4, just as Fletcher blew the motor and spun in his own fluid in turn1. This set up a three lap shootout to the finish. As the green came back out, the top three edged away, while Campbell, Tony Keigley and Cody Smith battled three wide for fourth. Hibbard tried to hang with Clonch, but as the checkers fell it was Clonch in his Cotton Racing Engines/Brads Transmissions/Hoosier Tire/Smileys Chassis taking the win. 118 Tim Clonch 127 Glen Hibbard 701 Henry Witt 83 Darryl Campbell 18 Cody Smith 911 Josh McGaha 63 Tony Kegley 44 Michael Sams 727 Keith McCullough 11 Allen Essenberg 011 Mac Harmon 99 Richard McDaniel 13 Jim Thorp 30 Jochum Schievink 16 Jack Baggerly 68 Glen Allen 54 Jimmy Fletcher 171 Billy Garza 199 Charlie Harmon 707 PJ Egbert 82 Max Eddie Thomas 6 Varian Sisson 74 Jasen Hammond 51 Greg Kruger-DQ-Rough Driving Heat 1 top three transfers; Thomas, Sisson, Schievink Heat 2 top three transfers; Fletcher, Witt, C. Yates got the lead on lap 1, but it didn’t last long. Yates, Montgomery and Marvin Kenley went three wide in turn 2, and M. Kenley and Montgomery were still door to door on lap 2. Jerry West stuck his nose into the fight and it was three wide again for the top spot, with West getting the slight advantage at the line. The pace finally slowed on lap 3 when caution came out for a spin by Charles Garza. M. Kenley got inside West on the restart to lead lap 4, only to give up the point to his brother Willie Kenley on lap 5. The two Kenleys then ran side by side on lap 7, with W. Kenley getting the edge on lap 8. At the halfway point it was W. Kenley, Everett Keel, M. Kenley, Yates and Montgomery running in the top five. Keel was able to get by W. Kenley on lap 11. Joseph Hunt took advantage of M. Kenley and Yates hooking bumpers to grab third as Keel was building a lead. W. Kenley half-spun falling from second to sixth giving Keel a big lead on Yates. Keel would go on to take the win in his Allens Garage/B & C Trucking/Lake Brownwood Tire and Lube/ET Signs/Monte Carlo. 86 Everett Keel 51 Matthew Yates 2 Marvin Kenley 38 Allen Montgomery 171 Charles Garza 22 Willie Kenley 8 John Bailey 24 Joseph Hunt 02 H L Braddy 74 Bobby Cox 00 Kevin Merrifield 9 Jerry West 33 Travis Hicks 6 Steve Forbus Heat 1 winner; W. Sustaire quickly jumped into lead and started to inch ahead from Shannon Parsons, as the pack battled two wide. DeGrote slid high allowing Mark Mohon to get along side for third, but DeGrote held the spot. The top two started to get a good lead, while Duain Pritchett battled side by side for 7th. Parsons took a couple looks inside on Sustaire just before halfway, but unable to get by. A big pack had formed behind DeGrote from 3rd-15th. At the midpoint Sustaire still held the lead, followed by Parsons, DeGrote, Mohon and Brian Bishnow rounding out the top five. The lead duo had built nearly a full straightaway lead, with the wolfpack continuing to lose ground. Sustaire had to use the chrome horn to move a lap car as the race neared five to go. In one of those, "you knew it would happen sooner or later" deals. The pack banging and rubbing from 3rd-10th and running three wide came up on lap traffic. The pack stacked up with Chad Estes getting punted and spun, with Kenny Weir spinning to avoid Estes. On the restart the top two had a four lap car buffer and got away clean, with the wolfpack survivers trying to work their way through. At the checkers it was Sustaire holding off Parsons to put his Darbys Coach Service/Madres Cocina/Cotton Racing Engines/ RLK Enterprises/K & K Racing/Tunes Used Cars/Rains County Excavation/Scorpion Chassis in victory lane. 87 Kevin Sustaire 13 Shannon Parsons 92 Steve DeGrote 21 Mark Mohon 73 Tim Ezell 25 Brian Bishnow 22 Duain Pritchett 18 Tim Clonch 74 Robert Jones 47 Benji Kirkpatrick 62 Mike Miles 7 Gary Miller 11 Kenny Weir 55 Charlie Wilson 9 Dru Pearson 63 Trace Crawford 001 Robert Bridschge 85 Ken Grant 83 Chad Estes 71 Becky Jerden 171 Chad Melton Heat 1 top four transfers; Mohon, DeGrote, Kirkpatrick, Miller Heat 2 top four transfers; Parsons, Bishnow, Weir, Melton Heat 3 top four transfers; Sustaire, Ezell, Clonch, Estes
