Weekend Preview: Mopar Nationals at Grand Bend Motorplex on June 26 - 28

 

 

 

 

NORWALK, Ohio (June 24, 2015) -

 

The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Nitro Jam tour is taking their seventh event of the season north this weekend to Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend, Ontario.

 

 

 

This year's Mopar Nationals will feature three days of sportsman competition plus an exciting line-up of nitro classes - from 320 mph Top Fuel Dragsters to AMSOIL Nitro Funny Cars presented by Aeromotive and Nitro Harleys, and the stars of the Crower Pro Mod class, U.S. Bounty Hunters Pro Stock class and Jet Dragsters.

 

 

 

The Mopar Nationals is one of two Nitro Jam events in Canada and takes place June 26 - 28. It is located just a few miles from the shores of Lake Huron on 407 acres in Huron County off of 407. Grand Bend Motorplex is one of Canada's premier racing facilities.

 

 

 

Did you know?

 

Canadian-born, Tim Boychuk and his "Happy Hour" AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive returns home to take on his U.S.A. competitors during the Mopar Nationals. Boychuk has been a regular in the IHRA since the late 2000s and currently sits third in the point standings heading into this weekend.

2014 Nitro Harley champion, Mike Scott will make his return to competition at the Mopar Nationals. The Canadian native, intended on running the entire Nitro Jam season in 2015 but work commitments did not allow his full-time return. He will race in both Canada races this year with his former team, Turner Racing.

The Top Fuel dragsters are set to hit the quarter-mile dragstrip with Bruce Litton moving from his Nitro Funny car back to a familiar seat, his Top Fuel dragster. Four dragsters are scheduled to compete in an epic battle between the U.S.A. (Bruce Litton and Dominic Lagana) and Canada (Bob Leverich and Paton Family Racing).

The IHRA announced the return of the Crower Pro Mod class in 2015 last year, marking the first time the class will compete at Grand Bend Motorplex after a multi-year absence from Nitro Jam. The Pro Mod class debuted with the IHRA in the early 90s and was born out of the IHRA's Top Sportsman class.

Noteworthy items:

 

Eliminations were cut short due to weather at the President's Cup National Fueled by Sunoco last weekend and will continue at the Northern Nationals on August 7 - 8.

The current points leaders heading into the Mopar Nationals include: Mike McIntire Jr. (AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive), John Montecalvo (U.S. Bounty Hunters Pro Stock), Ruben Tetsoshvili (Crower Pro Mod), Randal Andras (Nitro Harley) and Elaine Larsen (Jet Dragster).

In addition to the professional action, the Mopar Nationals will also feature two full days of sportsman racing competing on the IHRA's Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL. Racing for that series will take place Saturday and Sunday.
