Spartan Speedway Waves Checkers for Obrinske Jr, Shannon, and Jarecki

by Duane Turner

Mason, MI: (June 5, 2015) - Beacon Sales and Service Kids Night at Spartan Speedway not only provided some great racing, it also gave away bicycles to over 50 kids in attendance age 12 and under. Walt Obrinske Jr, Chris Shannon, and Lex Jarecki would lead the fields to the checkered flag.

The evening started with the Junior Bandit feature. Trey Chmielewski would take the point on the second lap, but the action would be slowed with an accident involving Jon Parish and Cameron Leisure. Both drivers would be ok, but would have to retire for the remainder of the event. Chmielewski would dominate the rest of the event with Cody Hall and Kylie Beckner in the top three. The Bandit feature would see Zach Parish take the early point with Logan Haughton and Nate Jenkins in tow. On a mid race restart, Jenkins would take over second, and reel in Parish for the lead. Parish would stay strong, and hold on for the win with Jenkins, and Faith Schuch in the top three.

The Performance Automotive Northwest Modifieds would take the track with Gordon Alblas leading the field to the green flag. Tracey Henley would follow in second and John Ledwidge in third. With seven laps in, the top five would all close in nose to tail. Walt Obrinske would use the high-side to take over third on lap ten, and Dan Loughan would follow in to fourth. Contact between the leaders on lap 14 would allow Obrinske and Loughan to take over second and third. At a mid-race restart, Obrinske would use the high-side again and would race side by side with Alblas for several laps before taking the lead for good on lap 22. Obrinske would pull away over the final 10 laps, as Loughan would move in to second and Jim Butler would follow in to third on the final lap.

The Lipari Foods Spartan Stocks B-feature would see James Gokee Jr. take the early point. Mike Findlay would soon close in and take the lead on lap five. Gokee Jr. would settle in to second, with Rick Gokee Sr. and Tim Lahar to battle for third. Through the mid point of the race, Findlay would pull away leaving the rest of the field to battle for second. Lahar would take third from Gokee Sr. with just five laps remaining, and quickly close in on Gokee Jr. for second. At the finish, Findlay would win with Gokee Jr. and Lahar in the top three.

The A-Feature for the Lipari Foods Spartan Stocks would have Mike Ammerman take the early lead. Josh Trammell would close in and take the point on lap two. Donny Ritter would slide in to second on lap three, and Marc Long settled in to third. On lap five, Jordan Harvey took over third, but would quickly lose the position as Chris Shannon and Dane Long moved in to third and fourth. A great race for the lead developed between Trammel and Ritter, allowing Shannon and Long to close in making it a four car race for the lead at the half way point. With ten laps to go, the top four would race side by side, with Shannon taking the point on the high side. A restart with 10 laps to go, Long would take over second. John Kennedy would show he had a fast car with a move to take over third. With five laps to go, the top five cars would race in one tight pack with Shannon holding a slim lead over Long. Shannon would hold on, with Long, and Kennedy in the top three.

Shawn Hornus took the early point in the Boss Snow Equipment Pony Stock B-Feature. Randy Kretzinger Jr. would take over the lead on the third lap, with Hornus and Dominic Shauver the top three. On the lap six restart, Kretzinger would jump out to a big lead, as Shauver would take over second. Jerry King moved past Hornus to take over third on lap eight, and Carter Trudgeon would follow in to fourth. King would take over second a few laps later, with Trudgeon sliding in to third. Over the final 10 laps, Kretzinger would extend his lead and take the win with King and Trudgeon the top three.

The final event of the evening, the Boss Snow Equipment Pony Stock A-Feature, Tyler Andrews jumped out to the early lead. Laura Beckner held on to second, with a dogfight for the third position. Andrews continued to pull away, and the battle moved to the second postion. Six cars would race side by side for second, with Laura Beckner holding the position. Lex Jarecki made his way though the pack, and moved in to third with just eight laps remaining. Jarecki moved in to second, and took to the high side with Brian Beckner moving low making it a three-car battle for the lead. Jarecki takes the point, with Brian Beckner in second, and Tyler Heeney in third, but would move in to second just one lap later. A caution with just two laps left set up a two-lap dash for the win. Jarecki would get the jump, but Heeney would not go away. At the line, Jarecki would win with Heeney and Brian Beckner in third.
