Lanterman Takes NCRA Modified Opener in Nebraska!

Rising City, Nebraska May 30, 2015 - The National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products modified division finally opened up the 2015 race season this past Saturday night and did so at a new venue in Cornhusker Country. And when it was all said and when the battle settled it was touring regular Josh Lanterman taking the victory.

Local driver Tom Svoboda and Nebraska resident and touring regular Jon Thompson started on the front row for the twenty-five lap feature and it was Thompson grabbing the lead as the green flag fell. Thompson kept the field at bay the first five laps before Wichita driver Tyler Davis spun to bring out the caution.

Just three laps later the red flag would appear when locals Steven Sheppard and Josh Hesseimer to together.

Once race action finally resumed, Thompson jumped out front and was quickly pressured by Lanterman, who started fifth. On lap eleven the caution would wave as Thompson spun to bring out the caution and relinquish the lead.

It was a battle of the brothers on the restart as Lanterman inherited the lead with defending tour champion Dan Powers right behind. It was a family battle the rest of the distance as both drivers battled side by side for the lead, only to have their spirited battle come to a brief halt as Thompson spun again, this time on lap twenty. It was his second spend which sent him to the pits where he was credited with a fourteenth place finish.

It was clean and green the final five laps as Lanterman and Powers resumed their battle for the lead. Behind them a fast closing Davis, who had spun and went to the tail of the twenty car field back on lap five, had worked his way up through the field and was waiting in the wings on one of the top two to make a mistake. But it was flawless racing the final laps with Lanterman holding on to take the season opening victory.

Powers would settle for second while Davis came home third. Local driver Andy Wilkinson finished fourth in front of the home town crowd while Trent Roth rounded out the top five.

The three, eight lap heat races for the twenty car field were won by Svobodia, Thompson and Wilkinson.

The next stop for the NCRA modified division will be on Fathers Day Sunday night, June 21st as the famed Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas
