Scouts Show Their Speed at MIR

 

Pinewood Derby race a big success

 

 

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (May 18) - Memphis International Raceway (MIR) hosted a different kind of car racing on Saturday when scouts from the Chickasaw Council of the Boy Scouts of America conducted its annual Pinewood Derby at the track.

 

 

 

A total of 13 scouts from across the region advanced to the race at MIR after a preliminary contest earlier this spring.

 

 

 

"Despite the weather not being very cooperative, having the race out here was a big hit with the scouts and their families," said MIR VP

Aiden Reeves of Pack 439 from the Wolf River group was the winner with a total time of 21.5842 seconds. Second place went to Alex Anyan from Pack 50 of the Eastern group with a time of. 21.9356, with third place

 

going to Pack 78 of the Northwest Mississippi chapter with a time of 22.0002.

 

 

 

Following the race, the scouts and their families were treated to a cookout of hamburgers and hot dogs.

 

 

 

"Since its opening, this track has been a vital part of the Memphis and Mid-South community," Kendrick said. "From giving these scouts a memorable place to race their Pinewood Derby cars to adding tens of thousands of tourism dollars into the economy during next month's Hot Rod Power Tour, this facility has the space and versatility to serve the community in a wide variety of ways."
