Double Header Weekend Awaits NCRA/MARS Late Model Tours

Park City, Kansas April 27, 2014 - For the first time since the 2010 race season, the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products late model division makes its return to Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kansas this coming Saturday night, May 3rd. From there the tour will head to the home track of the series, 81 Speedway in Park City. Joining forces with the NCRA will be the Missouri based MARS DIRTcar series in what is billed as The Border War.

Former tour champion and now retired Kelly Boen of Henderson, Colorado is a five-time winner at the three-eighths mile facility and had won the previous three events held at the track. Other feature winners include Al Purkey, Steve Kosiski and Brett LaFollete.

Former two-time tour champion Kyle Berck of Marquette, Nebraska currently leads the current point standings after picking up the season opening win last Saturday night at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas. He holds a slim five point lead over fellow Nebraska driver Travis Dickes. The rest of the top ten in point standings are Eric Main, Mike Wiarda, Tad Pospisil, Scott Philllips, Tyler Erb, Chris Kratzer, Damian Patoka, Gary Gorby and Wylan Petrie.

This will be the first ever appearance by the MARS DIRTcar series, who will be led by current point leader Tony Jackson, Jr. Jackson comes into the weekend with a 33 point lead over Jesse Stovall while Justin Asplin is just 360 points out of the lead. Other tour regulars expected include; Leroy Johnson, Terry Phillips, Jeremy Payne, Jeff Roth, John Driskill and modified standout Ryan Gustin. Five events have been held thus far with five different drivers reaching victory lane. They include Riley Hickman, Ryan Unzicker, Phillips, Jason Feger and Bobby Pierce.

The MARS DIRTcar series will open their weekend on Friday night, competing at their home track Monett Speedway in Monett, Missouri making this a three race weekend for the tour.

Gates will open at 5:00 PM on Saturday night in Dodge City with racing set for a 7:30 PM start time. Dodge City Raceway Park is located on the south edge of Dodge City, KS, on US 283, then 0.9 miles west on US 56, then 0.1 miles south. On Sunday night at 81 Speedway, pit gates open at 5:00 PM with racing scheduled for a 7:00 PM start time. Also competing will be the series sport modified division. 81 Speedway is located north of Wichita on I-135 to exit 16, then .7 mile west on 77th St. in Park City.
