Hey Nick, what class of car did Finger set that record with?

I read the above thread, they mention it was a camaro body and a BOPP chassis but was it suposed to be a latemodel or what? 17 something in the 80s at SAS is effin fast.

Those late models back in the early 80's were wicked looking and wicked fast. We went with Harold Cope one year and after getting are pit passes we were allowed to lean on the gate. First practice started and when those cars blew by on that back stretch Harolds bushy air was sucked over the wall and he turned to us and said "Damn we're gonna need a tune up!!!) Ha! Ha!

Not sure what that class was designated at the time. Things changed a lot over the years as different promoters took over.

That was considered the late model class.

I worked with a team-that was in the limited

late model class, which were a little less

Aerodynanmic, stock front clips, and 2bbl carbs.

From track opening in 1977, to the 1985 season, the Late Model cars ran under the title "Late Model Sportsman".

In the first two years, the limited class was titled "Limited Sportsman". In 1979, the Limited class became "Limited Stock", which lasted until 1982, when it became "Limited Late Model"

A third class, "Thunder", was added to the 1979 schedule.

You just gotta love having guys like Texas Tom

on LSSZ to clean up details and dates. My memory

seams to be selective on dates and details. Thanks

Tex.

The track records are scattered about in different threads and posting here. Would take a bit of searching.

I did find one for the Pro Sedan guys to shoot for when they make their return to the high banks--

When they ran their last race there on 3 March, 2007, Rookie Driver Ja Lane posted a 21.480 in his Ford Focus. It bettered the previous mark by a half second. Previous record holder was Bryce Dishman.

Tom: As posted in the New Release on the Texas Pro Sedans forum ...

"TPS drivers will attempt to establish a new qualifying track record at SAS since TPS rules mandate that changes to track facilities or technical rules require the establishment of a new TPS qualifying track records. Due to track surface improvements at San Antonio Speedway, this TPS rule will be in effect."

TPS Rules also award 2 bonus points in this case - "To Driver of fastest car establishing a new record at a new/reconstructed track or significant TPS rules change. "
