rebelracewriter Posted October 10, 2004 Report Share Posted October 10, 2004 Three sanctioned divisions headline Southern Challenge ABILENE, Texas (Oct. 10) – Abilene Speedway’s Southern Challenge sports three I.M.C.A.-sanctioned divisions, with a guaranteed $70,000 purse to be paid out at the Oct. 15-17 special event. I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds and Stock Cars, and the I.M.C.A. Hobby Stocks headline the ninth annual event, spon-sored by Smiley’s Racing Products. Modifieds vie for a top prize of $3,000 and a minimum of $750 to start Sunday’s main event. Starting a “B” feature pays $500, with $125 to last-chance qualifiers and $100 to non-qualifiers. First place in the Stock Car feature pays $2,000, with $500 to start. “B” main starters pocket $300. The Hobby Stock main pays $1,000 to win and $250 to start, and “B” main starters get $150. Drivers can only compete in one division. Feature races for each of the three divisions will be 30 laps. A practice session is on tap from 6-10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, with complimentary beverages and barbecue, and plenty of music, at the party to follow. New to the Southern Challenge this year is a best looking car contest, with trophies to be awarded to the selected car in each of the I.M.C.A. divisions.
