BOMBARDIER 500K PREPARES TO TAKE FLIGHT AT TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY

 

 

 

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (April 28, 2002) – Preparations are underway for a weekend of racing under the lights at Texas Motor Speedway. The Indy Racing League IndyCar Series takes to the track June 7 for the Bombardier 500k -- “America’s Original Nighttime IndyCar Race.” The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series returns June 6 for the O’Reilly 400k.

 

 

 

“Our fans love the night racing here and with good reason,” said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. “There’s just something very cool about wheel-to-wheel racing under the lights. It’s a great atmosphere. And these races are two of the best for both series, not only in terms of the racing but the attendance as well.”

 

 

 

Last year’s race produced one of the closest finishes in IndyCar history with winner Jeff Ward edging out Al Unser Jr. by only .0111 seconds. The margin of victory currently ranks third in the list of closest IndyCar finishes. In fact, Texas races hold three of the top five closest finishes and five of the top ten.

 

 

 

Qualifying for the O’Reilly 400 and Bombardier 500 will be on Thursday, June 5.
